Yup. As far as I understand it you don't need any kind of licence. It's a private party, as long as no one is being relieved of any money in the form of ticketing (or to buy alcohol bit that's a separate issue) then there's no problem.

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

Here's a shot of me practicing, with unfeasibly short legs. I'm actually 6 feet tall but somehow look like Tattoo in this picture. 😂 -
Ha ha. Pink Torpedo Robin. Profanity filter strikes again. 😂

Isn't that how everyone starts playing bass? 😂

Sensing a theme in the classifieds at the moment...
Newfoundfreedom replied to therealting's topic in Amps and Cabs
Oh dear. A few people seem to have lost their sense of humour in this thread. If my initial comment about Markbass ruffled any feathers, please realise, that as with most of my posts on here, it was meant in good humour and tongue firmly in cheek. People have different views, life's too short to argue about it. I thought bass players were supposed to be the laid back ones. Now kiss and make up before I have to call teacher. Just for the record, as I had a bit of fun at the expense of Markbass, I use probably the cheapest class D on the market, it's an absolute powerhouse, weighs nothing, looks and sounds absolutely superb, can be bought for pocket money, and I'm absolutely sure there will be other people that hate it. -

Maybe 6 people have just had eye surgery and realized how dammed ugly those things are. 😂 -
What famous musicians death most shocked you

I'm totally in agreement with this. I think life throws enough misery and loss at us all on a personal level without dipping into the trough of public grief. I'm not really emotionally effected at all by the loss of a public figure (musician or otherwise). Don't get me wrong. It's sad to lose such talented people, but more in a respectful acknowledgement of a passing talent kind of a way than any true emotion. Numerous thousands of people die every day, we can't grieve for them all, and I've always find it a little distasteful to value one life over another because they can play a guitar or kick a football or whatever. -
I've finally conceded defeat to Fender - NBD

I'm still fighting the good fight. I will NEVER buy a Fender! -
First Time Playing Live... What Have I done!!?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Ashweb's topic in General Discussion
I'm in a similar situation. Although with a rehearsing band. We've just arranged to play or first gig in about a months time in front of family and friends (about 40 people) I've only ever done one gig before about 30 years ago when I was 15. I stopped playing shortly after (not because of the gig lol) and only took up the bass again about 7 or 8 months ago, so I'm still very much an amateur. I remember being absolutely terrified at 15 going on, but half way through the first song I felt like a rock God! I'm hoping something similar will happen this time around. I'm already feeling nervous and it's a month away yet. The rest of the band are far more experienced, having gigged loads of times in previous bands in front of hundreds, and in some cases a couple of thousand people, so they can't wait to get out in public. I'm hoping I catch the same bug and the nerves go away. I suppose the first gig is always nerve racking no matter how practiced you are. -
Not that I've ever noticed. To be honest I think the build quality is absolutely superb overall, especially given the price.

I've got the Mossfet version and up to now it's been absolutely bullet proof and sounds amazing. It definitely sounds like you got a dodgy return as suggested above.

I've had one of these for about a year now. They're absolutely superb little basses.

two new ideas, thoughts on brass or no brass?
Newfoundfreedom replied to funkgod's topic in Recording
I think I misunderstood the question. -
Horses for courses. Obviously it's all down to personal taste. But I'd take this over a Westone Thunder any day. That Ibanez was a good buy though. I do likes me an Ibanez.

I'm definitely in the no bras camp. -
I paid £300 and spent the rest on vodka. My bass looks as good as anything out there after 1700 quids worth of vodka.

I think someone got an electric sander for his birthday. -
I've never understood the hate for the Ricky shape. I think they look superb. I'd take one over a dull Fender any day.

I'm barely in one. 😂 Thanks. I'll have a look.
-
Looks cool but I'd be scared of it turning over while I was playing.

Yeah I know what hissing is. 😂 It's the "Sid" reference I didn't get until it was explained by Skinnyman above. 😉
-
I don't even understand the original post, but "Hissing Sid" is a great name for a band.

I'd certainly like to slap Scott much more than Mark. All joking aside, and seeing as I seem to have started some controversy on this thread. I fully respect Scott as both a teacher and a musician. He's just not to my liking, which is purely a personal thing and most likely much more a reflection of me more than him. I find his videos extremely irritating because they're basically just click bait to attract people to his site. Although I'm sure his actual paid content is much better, based on the feedback from people on this site. I do actually much prefer Marks teaching style which is much more direct and to the point. Also from what I've seen of Scott's videos he seems to be extremely passionate about, and focused on jazz, which is fair enough, but personally I'd rather listen to roadworks.

I'm happy to chip in for a double X. Triple X is way too hardcore for me.
