  1. I'm barely in one. 😂 Thanks. I'll have a look.
  2. Looks cool but I'd be scared of it turning over while I was playing.
  3. Yeah I know what hissing is. 😂 It's the "Sid" reference I didn't get until it was explained by Skinnyman above. 😉
  4. I don't even understand the original post, but "Hissing Sid" is a great name for a band.
  5. I'd certainly like to slap Scott much more than Mark. All joking aside, and seeing as I seem to have started some controversy on this thread. I fully respect Scott as both a teacher and a musician. He's just not to my liking, which is purely a personal thing and most likely much more a reflection of me more than him. I find his videos extremely irritating because they're basically just click bait to attract people to his site. Although I'm sure his actual paid content is much better, based on the feedback from people on this site. I do actually much prefer Marks teaching style which is much more direct and to the point. Also from what I've seen of Scott's videos he seems to be extremely passionate about, and focused on jazz, which is fair enough, but personally I'd rather listen to roadworks.
  6. I'm happy to chip in for a double X. Triple X is way too hardcore for me.
  7. Cheers for the heads up. I've been after one of those for ages. Seems like a bargain at that price too.
  8. Ooh just you wait for the daggers to come out now. How dare you have an actual opinion on a discussion based forum. Run for cover! Run I tell ya!
  9. I'm distressed just looking at it.
  10. More self indulgent jazz noodling like most of Scott's content. No denying he's talented, but it does absolutely nothing for me.
  11. Oh God, don't go there! That's another 40 page thread.
  12. Good call. Vintage are also ridiculously good for the money, and they can be picked up second hand for next to nothing.
  13. "Better" is subjective. For me there's much more enjoyment in making a song your own than learning it verbatim. I know some people are the exact opposite. There's no right or wrong as far as I'm concerned. As long as it's enjoyable for the band and the audience then everyone's a winner either way.
  14. Fair play. Horses for courses really. I'm in a weekend band, we don't get paid, every gig we do is to raise money for charity, and I have an extremely full and busy life outside the band. I enjoy playing, but I have absolutely no interest in spending hours and hours repetitively playing the same part of a song over and over just to learn it note by note. I have no ambitions to be a professional musician and I'm actually quite content to be an average bass player. For me it's all about enjoying it otherwise it just becomes another chore.
  15. Better to play the wrong bass line right then play the right bass line wrong. This attitude that if you're not good enough to play the original note for note then you shouldn't be playing it is absolute b0ll0cks! Play something you can manage, that fits and sits well with the rest of the band and 99.9 percent of the audience wouldn't hear the difference. Play what you want. Enjoy playing it. If anyone tells you it's against the rules then tell them to go f@#* themselves!
  16. I've never actually owned one but I'd buy a Harley Benton in a heartbeat. In fact there's a couple I've actively had to restrain myself from buying because I just don't need another bass. To be honest I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything Thomann's own brand range. I've had lots of bits like power packs, leads, music stands etc. They're an absolutely superb company, great customer service and surprisingly good gear for the price.
  17. Thanks. I'll have a look.
  18. I totally agree with Stylon Pilson above. If it's an iconic, stand out riff, then you need to be as close as possible. Otherwise for me, learning a song note for note just sucks all the fun out of playing. I get the basics down then just wing it.
  19. Hello o wise and talented bass comity. I'm looking for a band app which will allow the members to synchronise their efforts. I've just tried one called Band Mule which is very close to everything we need but lacks live messenger notifications. Can anyone recommend a good app with the following features. Cross platform. Android, iPhone and browser. Group messenger feature with push notifications so everyone knows when they've got a message (not necessarily on the browser version) Gig diary Availability diary. Set list manager (basically somewhere to just make a note of the set list.) That's the bare bones of what I'm looking for. Any other features would be a bonus. Does such a beast exist? Thanks.
  20. I like Talking Bass. Purely because Mark is a straight, no bull, down to business teacher. I find Scott really grating. I don't deny he's probably a great teacher, but I can't stand all the fluff and filler. It's too much about him. I used to use Justinguitar when I was learning to play the octave higher thing with too many strings. He's a superb teacher and extremely likeable. It's a shame he doesn't cover bass.
  21. Yeah. One too many for me.
  22. I think this was the same bass I was drooling over for weeks. (If not the same one then someone selling the same model) If it didn't have too many strings I would have snapped it up.
  23. I'm like the Wizard of Oz. I'd be happier behind the curtain.
