  1. I think he still uses the Gretsch live when he's doing the songs from the first album that he recorded with it. At least he was doing up until last year judging by the festival footage I saw. But yeah, sadly he's now sponsored up the wazoo by Captain Bland and the Fender brigade.
  2. And yet you managed to find and resurrect a 7 year old thread on here.
  3. Yeah. Especially once I'm famous. 😂
  4. £270 including shipping. Which is actually quite high for one of these. They were selling for about £100 - £150 a few years ago when there was plenty of then around. But I figured with the Seymour Duncan pickups and preamp, the Grover tuners and the Hipshot drop D it's worth almost that in parts. Given the quality and playability it seems like a lot of bass for the money to me.
  5. I had a bit of a re jig today as I bought a pedal / flight case from someone on here. I've been looking for one the right size to take my M13 and this one's perfect. I know it's not as interesting or diverse as many people's, but the M13 is everything I need, or am ever likely to need and now it's all boxed and easy to carry. If it ain't broke why fix it?
  6. Mine finally turned up today and I was expecting it to be heavy but when I picked the parcel up from the courier office I thought it was an empty box. It's definitely lighter than my Jag or even the short scale Gretsch Junior Jet II. First impressions are out looks great. It seems really well made, no fret problems and the action is really nice. It's really easy to play. Sound wise I've only tried it on the practice amp so far but it seems good with a very diverse range of sounds. I reckon once I get it hooked up to my main rig it'll be a monster. All in all I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It's definitely going to be my main gigging bass.
  7. I somehow missed this thread until now. I've been singing the praises of the Gretsch Junior Jets for a while now. They're absolutely superb! I've had the Sunburst one for 6 months or so and when I plug it in I'm still surprised how big and fat it sounds. Also great tone and superb built quality. They definitely punch well above their weight and price point these.
  8. There's already a thread running on here somewhere about the Veyron. I love mine. Superb looking and sounding little amp with bags of power to spare. I don't know how they even make them, let alone sell them at that price. They're an absolute steal. I never had any problems with "fizzing". Hopefully it was just a condensation thing.
  9. Yup. There's no accounting for taste. It would be a very beige world if everyone liked the same thing. I actually like quite a few single cut basses. Although others are a bit too elephant man. One person's ugly is another person's beauty. Thank God or I'd never have got someone to marry me. 😂
  10. Yeah if you're going to blow up a low res avatar picture that's only a few pixels across then I'm afraid it's going to be blurred. That was my first starter bass I picked up on eBay for about a hundred quid several years ago, and I still think it's prettier than any bass Fender ever made, although to be fair it does sound pretty crap, which is why it's now more wall art than musical instrument.
  11. If the OP can't close the thread can we at least change the title to "Anderton's off topic egg thread". To be fair I've never had a bad egg from Anderton's.
  12. Plank of wood with an ash tray nailed to it. I'll never understand the appeal.
  13. Kid A and kid A flat. I didn't look after the second one very well.
  14. You realize this thread's about Fenders, right? 😋
  15. It's a good job you weren't playing a Jackson. You'd have run him through. 😂
  16. I do it all the time at rehersals. I usually just shoot daggers at the guitarist so everyone else thinks he's playing the wrong chords. 😂
  17. Guitarist - "We should do a Shadows number." Me "Fking elevator music. I'd rather put a gun to my head"
  18. I don't even think it's a supply and demand thing so much as a perception of value thing. It's like an unknown work of art selling for a hundred grand, suddenly every other work of art by the same artist is worth a hundred grand, purely because of perception. Items create value based on what people think they're worth, and while ever more than one person perceives something to be of a certain value, it will actually drive the price up. I find it particularly daft where guitars and basses are concerned. Like all technology the manufacturing of guitars has improved massively over the past 50 years. I would even argue that you can probably buy a "better" (I know, better is subjective) instrument for £3-£400 than spending 4 grand on an old Fender. I must admit I've never been a Fender fan anyway. I find them extremely bland and unbelievably overpriced for what they are. I'd rather have something like an ibanez or Yamaha any day regardless of value, but that's just down to personal taste. Either way I'd certainly take a new bass over an old one. It's like buying a Betamax video rather than a modern home cinema system just because you enjoyed a certain film on Betamax 40 years ago. I just don't get it. Having said that, I totally get the "I've worked hard, I want it so I'm buying it attitude." So fair play if it's your thing and you want one, then why the hell not.
  19. I haven't even come up with a name for my kids yet. I just call them kid 1 and kid 2. Kid 1 is away at university now.
  20. I like Flakes, especially in ice-cream ala 99. I've never tried a fantasist.
  21. I still can't help but feel it's an improvement over the standard fugly Fender headstock.
  22. Yeah I think we can all agree, playing bass in flip flops is a definite no no with one hand or two. You're supposed to wear Crocs.
  23. Are they those velcro strap things I keep seeing wrapped and the neck of the bass just kind of over or behind the nut? I often wondered what those were for.
