  1. I've had one of their semi acoustic basses for years. They used to be branded sub zero, but they're still selling essentially the same bass and just keep changing the colours and renaming it (well if it's good enough for Fender) usually after different cities in the USA. I bought it as B stock for about 100 quid but couldn't find a single thing wrong with it. After several years the electronics have gone a bit shoddy, and it's very flat and woody sounding, but other than that it's a nice enough looking thing and perfectly playable.
  2. Yup. I've pretty much given up on the whole idea too. I haven't played since April when the band had an extremely minor disagreement, which would ordinarily be water off a duck's back, but this time it coincided with an extremely busy time at work and my mother's health taking a turn for the worse, so I just couldn't be ar5ed. Now all my time and mental energy is taken up caring for mum who has terminal cancer. Even the thought of gigging or rehearsing leaves me feeling exhausted. I also wouldn't trust myself to be out in public in my current mental state. As a card carrying misanthrope at the best of times, I think one wrong word right now would lead to me getting locked up. Something I can't afford given my current situation.
  3. I've played through the 500 and it sounds absolutely massive. Easily keeps up with a whole band at nowhere near full volume. I would expect the 800 would take pretty much anything you throw at it.
  4. Dodgy amp, Dodgy cable or dodgy bass. If you plug the cable into the amp, turn up the volume a little, then touch the other end of the cable, does it make a buzzing sound? This would rule out the first two.
  5. Have you tried plugging the other end into the bass. 😂
  6. I thought the BZ models had been discontinued a couple of years ago. I always fancied the 4 string version of this. Hopefully they'll reappear as well.
  7. An electronic shifter would shift the whole bass up or down at many tones as you like. But it couldn't shift a single string.
  8. It's a drop D tuner to quickly change the low E to a low D.
  9. All true. But you'll get the thread closed by mentioning it. Brexit is a banned subject on here. You'll get a slap on the wrists for posting about it.
  10. Really nice looking bass this. Especially at that price. I've never owned a Jackson, but the guitarist in one of my old bands swore by their guitars.
  11. I generally really don't like black basses, and I don't like Fenders. But somehow that's gorgeous! I'm confused. 😂
  12. Report them. It's against eBay rules to do that.
  13. I will ironically like this post. Considering in liking it by staring at the screen on my smart device. 😂
  14. Nice one! Well done. I'll give it a listen later. 👌
  15. I only drank at a stadium gig once. I spent the whole night p#ssing my leg off, and by the time the gig had finished I'd pretty much sobered up and was left with a banging headache. Never again! 😂
  16. Bass players are supposed to be. It was the drummer let you down. 😂
  17. I don't know how you would even quantify "making it" in this day and age. Big money record deals are mostly a thing of the past, except for the exceptional few, and even mega huge bands aren't making a lot from recording thanks to streaming services.
  18. Never had any interest in being in a professional touring band. There are very few worse ways I can imagine making a living than constantly being on the road and in a different place every other day. I picked up a bass at 15 because my mates were in a band and needed a bass player. I just wanted to hang about with my mates. 30 odd years later and my motivation is exactly the same. Put me in a room with people I know and get along with to create music and I'm happy as a pig in muck. Start talking about traveling here for this gig, and there for that gig and I have no interest. I can just about muster the energy for the occasional local gig. Other than that I'm not interested.
  19. Can't you just use something in the public domain? Any old classical stuff, Beefoven and the like, is usually fair game.
  20. Fair play to em. I'm not even 50 and I can't be arsed with gigging. To still be enjoying it in their 70's / 80's I can't fault em. What else are they gonna do? Sit around playing dominos.
  21. No. I'm out of money. But the net effect is the same.
