Thanks. It sounds great too. I've just given it a blast on the Wharfdale cabs I bought and it sounds amazing. It's an absolute tone monster, the range of different sounds you can get is superb, and loud enough to take the walls down. I'm very happy with it. It's ridiculous how good it is for the price. Even at double the cost it would be a steal. Oh and it looks even better all lit up. 😀

How do the other owners find the sustain on the Gretsch? If I can find one small fault with mine it's that the notes die a little more quickly than I'd like, but that could well be down to the strings. I'm hoping a restring (I'm thinking of going nickel wound) and a high mass bridge might help. Does anyone know if a high mass bridge really makes a difference to sustain?

I have that second one on my semi acoustic. The problem is, unless you are extremely lucky and the saddle section falls in exactly the right place to get the intonation right you would be left with exposed screw holes in the body from the old bridge.

Yup. That was me. Have a look at the other thread, but in short, I'm extremely happy with them. Can't go wrong at that price.

Yeah it looks good, but I can't justify paying half what I paid for the bass itself. I'm tempted to try the Fender though. I've never had a high mass bridge so I'm interested to see if there's much of a difference.

@Frank Blank According to a comment in the reviews these Fender high mass bridges from Thomann are a direct replacement and the screw holes line up so no need for re-drilling the body. At about £30 it could be a good option. This is a subject which is very close to my heart. Being an intermittent sufferer myself for many years and having come close to the brink several times this is the way I have learned to deal with it. If you don't feel like playing, don't play. If you don't feel like getting out of bed, don't (if that is an option). If you don't feel like facing people, don't! In fact don't do anything you don't want to do. It will only make things worse and you may well end up hating something (or someone) you love. I've learned to acknowledge my depression. I let it in. I wallow in it. But I do it very much with the mindset that I am purposely taking time out to recharge my batteries for a limited time. It's an illness. I treat it like I would if I had the flu. It's like going in to survival mode. I call them my mental health days, and I find the less I fight it, the more quickly it passes. The more I ignore it the more I get angry and frustrated and it just prolongs the inevitable. Don't sell your gear. In fact try not to make any decisions about anything while you're in that mindset if you can help it.

From what I've heard even the tube version is extremely clean sounding, just a little warmer. I think these amps are designed that way. Probably not the right choice for someone looking for built in "dirt".

St Anger was the point at which I stopped listening to Metallica, it was total and utter dross (only imho of course) and I haven't listened to anything they've done since. Which is a shame really as I liked pretty much everything they'd done up to that point. I was a massive fan right up to The Black Album, so much so that when I got married my wife walked down the isle to Nothing Else Matters.

Right so the rules are you can only have 2 basses? In that case you can have a rolling stock. Use one while selling the second, then buy another and play the new one while selling the old one. That way you constantly have new basses to try and only ever have two. Isn't that what we all do anyway? (Except when we forget about the selling the old one part)

I don't know if anyone has the Veyron in stock currently. Thomann has a 2-3 week wait on the Mosfet version and 6 weeks plus on the tube version. In the meantime I'll be happy to report back on how it all sounds when mine finally turns up. It should hopefully be here by the weekend at the latest.

I was a massive Metallica fan until I watched that documentary. They say you should never meet your heroes. I would add, you should never watch a documentary about them either. James and Lars especially came off as total and utter bellends. Jason Newstead always seemed like the exception. But then he's a bass player so that's only to be expected. 😋 Bros on the other hand. Well I always thought they were a couple of bellends anyway so I actually enjoyed their documentary.

Might be worth getting shut of the rumble and buying a separate head to go with the cab. I'm currently waiting for my new Veyron to turn up. Cent wait to try it with the Wharfdale stack.

Meh. It does nothing for me. Charvelles should have a headstock that can kill a buffalo.

I've never tried any of their basses but I've had a couple of Vintage guitars and they're excellent!! They punch well above their weight in quality and sound, and the Wilkinson pickups and hardware are especially good. I can't imagine why one of these wouldn't be excellent. (except for the fact that I personally can't stand "Fender" shaped guitars and basses)

Gretsch Junior Jet 2 and keep £700 in the bank. They're as good as anything out there. Sounds and built quality is superb!
