I have a love hate relationship with GOT. Absolutely brilliant series, but it's an absolute head thrash trying to keep up with who's who, who belongs to which clan, who are they at war with again? and ooh, Dragons!!! It can be really hard work. Not the kind of thing I'd watch to switch off and relax, but definitely worth sticking with.

What do you think about when you're playing. .
Newfoundfreedom replied to Donnyboy's topic in General Discussion
Usually "woohoo this is sounding great!" Which almost inevitably leads to me cocking it up within the next 3 second. -
Not to the same extent. I'm only in my 40's but I was in a band at school and one of my best mates was the guitarist. We've both long ago moved away from our old home town. But every few years he would jump on his motorbike and have a ride over to where I lived just to enjoy a ride out and a catch up. We'd inevitably end up in the music room (which was a shed at the bottom of my garden) and just jam. It was always like putting on a comfortable pair of slippers. It just fit. I often regret that we ended up living quite a distance apart, even moreso now as I live overseas, and sadly he doesn't even really play any more. Which is a great shame because he was an absolute natural from the first time he ever picked up a guitar. Such is life. 😏

I didn't want to initially. He kind of grew on me as the series went on. Although to be fair that was also largely in part to the stunning Karen Gillan, who made the show extremely "watchable". 😉

Horses for courses. I liked Christopher Ecclestone, and even Matt Smith. But for me the absolute height of the show was David Tennant with Billy Piper. Capaldi was an abomination, although to be fair it wasn't entirely his fault, because the script writing and production dropped through the floor after the hand over from Matt. On a slightly different topic (or circling back to the original) I highly recommend Terrarium TV for anyone who's had enough of terrestrial. It's free but you will need an Android device. I've used it pretty much exclusively for the past 2 years or so. Just Google it for the download. It's brilliant!

I haven't watched "live" TV for well over 5 years. Absolute dross. In fact I very rarely watch any UK TV at all now since Peter Capaldi destroyed Doctor Who and Jeremy Clarkson killed Top Gear. I think they were the last 2 UK shows I watched. Now I mostly gorge on US TV box sets.

Well, that's not right is it!

Hey, that's my first kit build! -
Anyone we know? (Just because I'm nosey 😉)

Agree 100%. The Gretsch is my main bass. It looks, feels and plays absolutely fantastic. I also looked at the Hofner but dismissed it because it seems to fit into a very limited niche and I wanted something I could use every day on every song. For me the Gretsch fits that bill perfectly. (And gowd damn she's purdy!) I still fancy a Hofner, and may indeed pick one up one day when finances allow and I can indulge myself in a niche instrument just for the fun of it, but for a superb every day instrument.........

That thing costs more, and probably weighs more than my house.

Metallica's ...And Justice For All remastered
Newfoundfreedom replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
I'd actually say Kill 'em All, their first album was the most "metal", to my ear at least. But I'd still rate it well above At Anger. Anyway, what was this thread about again? 😂 -
When you said just bass and drums I was expecting something more along the lines of Royal Blood. Not really my cup of tea as it were, but it sounds really good nonetheless. A very full sound for just the two of you. I'd be well happy to be putting something like that out.

Newfoundfreedom replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
Never listened St Anger then? Absolute dross, and I'm a massive Metallica fan. For me, Justice For All is their second best album. The best being the black album. Edit Actually, Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightening were great albums too, it's hard to choose between them. But I certainly wouldn't put Justice at the bottom of the pile considering the crap they put out after The Black Album. -
Might be worth seeing if you can borrow a shorty or try one out in a music shop to get the feel for it first. I'm sure they're not for everyone but now I'd take a short scale over a full length any day.

For me it's also more a case of ergonomics than weight (though everyone is obviously different). I have 2 knackered disks which really play me up if I'm in a leaning off centre position for any length of time. No problem humping bags of shopping around, but I've actually put my back out reaching forward to pick up a cup of tea. For me short scale basses seem to do the trick. A lot less stretching and leaning means they're a lot more comfortable to play. My current Gretsch Junior Jet and short scale semi hollow are probably the most comfortable things I've ever played. My old Warwick used to give me chronic back ache.

Hmmm. Interesting. I tend to split my pedal output (line 6 M13) going with 2 banks in the front for distortion, volume based effects, and the second 2 banks in the effects loop for ambient effects (chorus, flanger, reverb, delay, etc etc.) No idea why, except that that's what the manual suggests and the way it's "supposed" to be done from what I've read on various forums and internet posts. To be honest it all sounds the same to me whether it's run through the effects loop or direct into the front.

I'm always late for rehersal, and it's at my house. 😂

I must admit I'm sorely tempted with a Squier Jaguar. P/J configuration. Looks cool as F, and can be found new under £200.

Ah.....as in "hum" buckers. Am I really so stupid that I never got that? 😂

I hate you people!!! I've never been interested in buying or playing a P bass in my life. Now even that pink one has started to look good. I'm even thinking I might kind of learn to love that headstock like an ugly wife.

UPS - Unbelievably Poor Service. Avoid this courier...
Newfoundfreedom replied to Dood's topic in General Discussion
I would just like to point out that it can be done well If the will is there to do so. Here in Bulgaria we have a courier company called Ekont with offices in pretty much every town. A seller sends the goods via their local office. The buyer then receives a text message telling them when their item has arrived. You (the buyer) go and pick up your goods from your local office (or delivered direct to your door for a small extra charge) where you are able to open, examine and fully assess the goods before paying the courier directly for them. The seller is then texted to say that you have paid for the goods and they go and pick up their cash from their local office. It works amazingly well, it's cheap, fast, and extremely reliable. UK couriers could learn a lot. Combined with another independent courier I use in the UK. I can get up to 5Kg of goods sent from the UK to Bulgaria for 15 leva. Which is about £6.50. I couldn't send goods down the road in the UK for that, and even if I did they probably wouldn't arrive. Never any problems with things getting "lost" or damaged. In fact I'm currently waiting for an AB-Y pedal which I bought from eBay and should be arriving in the next couple of days. 😁 -

They're all the same. I've had an absolute nightmare with Royal Morons on many occasions. Even to the point where I lost my rag so much I went to the local sorting office and threatened to disassemble the delivery drivers legs if he didn't do his job properly, after waiting in all day for a delivers several days in a row (waiting for various car parts for an old Beetle I was restoring). Only to find a card in the door on each occasion saying the delivery driver tried to deliver your parcel and no one was home. I was there and there were also two dogs in the house. I swear the bloke must have been a ninja to even get the card in the letterbox without the dogs knowing. He was obviously just posting them everywhere instead of actually doing the deliveries to get his round finished and knock off early. Funnily enough I always got my deliveries after that. Although I've also had several things go missing in transit despite paying extra for tracked delivery. -
What is this Soviet craziness?

No but great for playing them. 😂
