  1. If you're buying for the first time or experimenting with many different sounds, then for me a multi effects pedal is the way to go. If you're happy with the sounds you're getting from individual pedals then I wouldn't see the need to swap for a multi effects unit, which can often be very complicated to set up. A good compromise is the zoom MS60B. A total Swiss army knife pedal that will slot into your existing pedal board and give you almost unlimited effects options.
  2. I feel exactly the same way before any gig. No matter how many I do it always fills me with a sense of dread. I envy people who love performing. I hate it!
  3. You've gone and ruined the whole thread now. 😆
  4. Yes I've often found that's the main problem with delay. You need absolutely metronomic timing for it to work properly. As soon as anyone starts to drift it sounds awful.
  5. I often use a bit of reverb to help thicken the sound and sit nice in the mix. Especially with ballad type stuff. I never really understood why reverb comes pre installed on most guitar amps, but hardly ever on bass amps. It's a great tool when used sparingly.
  6. Don't know if it's already been mentioned. Can't be bothered to read 4 pages back. I was surprised to learn Jason Mamoa plays bass. Of course, on him it looks like a ukulele.
  7. I've heard several people say very similar things. If only they weren't so damned ugly! 😆 (YMMV)
  8. Or the Marques 4 for £128. Not particularly my cup o tea, but the reviews are excellent.
  9. As long as he doesn't ask for an encore.
  10. I feel the same when I pick up a 4 string now. It just doesn't feel right.
  11. I've never actually owned (or I think even played) a five string. I went straight from 4 to 6. I actually much prefer the six. After a little modification in technique, mostly muting and learning how to use a floating thumb, I actually find the sixer far easier to play than the four. If it wasn't for the damn weight and my knackered back I don't think I'd ever pick up a four again.
  12. My current (maybe) / former band was made up of 2 married couples. Me on bass. My wife on Vox. Guitarist and guitarists wife on drums. It worked really well because we were / are all good friends. Musically my wife agreed with the guitarist far more often than she agreed with me. So there was definitely no musical favouritism where the band was concerned. Life is currently in the way of the band, but we're all still good friends.
  13. I can't understand why this is still here at this price. It's a give away.
  14. I generally wouldn't listen to the kind of music my most recent band played. But that's probably because I'm rock / metal through and through and most other genres just leave me cold. However, I really enjoyed the creative process of making music with an originals band that was totally different to the kind of thing I'm normally into. My bass playing definitely improved because of it. I don't think I could do the same thing with a covers band and trying to learn songs I didn't like verbatim. My general attitude is, this is my hobby. If I ain't enjoying it, I ain't playing it.
  15. Date for an Encore bass? Seems like a fair swap. Are they in season?
  16. I'm surprised there isn't a lot more love for these. I had one and they're great. Multiple stomps in one easy to use unit and no messing around programming patches.
  17. I've got one of these. The neck is extremely playable for a sixer. I soon started to prefer it over my 4 strings. Great value for money.
  18. Not so much a single song, or even what I'd consider music. But I utterly loathed all the rave / acid house, pill popping garbage. I've heard more musical roadworks.
  19. I don't know if I'd call it an unsung hero. I've certainly sung it's praises many times on here, but the Bugera Veyron is an absolute monster of an amp with a superb tone range and more power than you're ever likely to need. I've been using mine for over 3 years now and it's been nothing but excellent. If I needed to replace it the only thing I'd buy is another one the same. My biggest surprise was a couple of years ago I took a punt on those Whatfdale cabs Andertons were knocking out for next to nothing. There were absolutely brilliant and well above my expectations. I sold them on only because they were too heavy for me to lug around to gigs. The new owner was also well pleased with them and I got back pretty much what I paid for them new. Can't complain at that.
