Loosening up old machine heads

Superb. Thanks. They look like a direct replacement. If I can't clean them up and free them off I'll get a set of these. Cheers. π -

Loosening up old machine heads

Hmm. On second thoughts it might have to be a clean and lube after all. Having looked at all the replacement machine heads on Thomann they all seem to screw in at a 12 and 6 o'clock position. These are more of a 1 and 7 o'clock position and I really don't want to drill new holes. -
Loosening up old machine heads

Well it cleaned up ok, but I think I'll take @BigRedX's advice and order a new set of machine heads before I re string it next time. It's not really worth a lot so I'm not too precious about keeping the original ones. Although it's a good few years old now. Late 60's early 70's, and plays beautifully. The only thing I'm not sure about is how I get the right ones so I don't have to drill new holes. Are these things pretty standard or is it just a case of measuring? -

I've got an old acoustic guitar that's been sitting up in the barn for a few months and the machine heads are quite stiff. What's the best way of loosening them up? If I take them off is there something I can soak them in to clean and lubricate them? They're the open back kind. Cheers.

Yeah I used to have the 50 as well. A good compromise for weight against performance, but struggles a bit to keep up in a full band situation with a heavy handed drummer.

I found out takes a bit of practice to get the timing down so that all 3 fingers hit at the exact right time, but yeah. Definitely a lot less taxing than the two finger method for that kind of galloping bass line.

I'll be honest. I've always hated the Fender headstock. I though they couldn't be made any worse. I was wrong!

I've bought and sold loads of stuff in FB marketplace and never had a problem. Other than the almost obligatory lowball offers. Maybe it's a cultural thing and the UK / US markets are much bigger target for scammers. Doesn't seem to happen here.

Too orangey for crows, it's just for me and my dawg

Cracking job that. Very impressed. I've looked at those Red Sub bases several times and been tempted myself and put off by the "metal" look of them. Yours is a big improvement. The only other thing that puts me off buying one is that I've seen loads of them for sale with cracked headstocks so it seems to be a weak point. Watch out for that. -
Yup. Good luck figuring that one out. π New acoustic bass and gator case day. I picked up this Takamine electro acoustic with a Gator Case included for an absolute bargain Β£250 a couple of weeks ago on the bay of fleas. Since then I've been biting my nails waiting for it to turn up and hoping it would still be in one piece. Turns out I didn't need to worry. 3 couriers. Over 2500km from London to Bulgaria and not only was it still in one piece, but it was still in tune! The bass is superb. But I have to give props to the Gator Case. It's the first one I've owned and what a superb piece of kit it is. I've heard people sing their praises many times and now I understand why. Looking forward to playing this at the weekend in my new acoustic jam project. π

Absolutely can't go wrong with this at the price. -
If you like jazz donβt go to a jazz festival
Newfoundfreedom replied to triplebass's topic in General Discussion
Jazz festivals sound great! I might try one. I hate jazz. -
I'm sorry but I think that's perfectly acceptable even if it's somewhat annoying. First come first serve. If someone local turns up at the door with the cash before you they take it. I've had the same from the other side of the coin many times. An "interested party" who wants something. Several messages, arrangements made etc. Item put on hold. Only for them to then go silent at the last minute or not turn up. Now the buyer can make whatever arrangements they like, but if someone turns up first with the cash it's theirs.

After all the high praise I'm curious and wouldn't mind seeing what they're like. But there's no way I'm Googling "Fanny".

Wow! Absolutely bargain this. I love mine and paid twice that not so long ago. These get overlooked now since the newer model came out but I think in many ways this version is better than the new one as it can be used as a preamp direct to FOH. (As well as an audio interface) Great to get you out of trouble in an emergency and saves carrying a separate preamp pedal.

Les Paul for me. There's something comforting and familiar about the weight and bulk. -
Choosing Songs In A Covers Band
Newfoundfreedom replied to SuperSeagull's topic in General Discussion
This was a constant bone of contention in my old covers band. We were all from very different musical backgrounds and liked different things. Rhythm guitarist was a punk. Lead guitarist into old school rock n roll. I come from a rock / metal background. Drummer was into jazz, and we had a female singer so certain male lead songs just didn't work. We weren't a professional band (as in doing it for the money) so there were certain songs I just wouldn't play. Anything by Oasis or The Shadows for example (both were suggested). It might sound selfish or stubborn. But it depends why you're doing it. If you're getting paid then yeah sure. You have to give the audience what they want. If it's a hobby then you should be playing things you enjoy, otherwise what's the point?
