Weird leggy scrolling issue...
Newfoundfreedom replied to Dankology's question in Site Issues and Questions
Yup. It's certainly annoying. I use Chrome browser for everything else, but now I'm having to use a second browser just for this site. -

Doesn't look like a solution was found last time either. To be honest I don't see how it could be a device issue when several people are seeing the same thing. -
Weird leggy scrolling issue...
Newfoundfreedom replied to Dankology's question in Site Issues and Questions
Yup. I'm getting the same thing for the past couple of days. Not sure if it's a site issue or a browser issue. It only happens on Basschat when using Chrome browser. Any other site using Chrome is fine, and Basschat using a different browser is fine. It seems to be a combination of those two things. -

Hmm, a new take on pup guards...
Newfoundfreedom replied to iconic's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I didn't even know that was a thing 😂 I play with my thumb on a couple of tracks and never felt the need for a tug bar. It seems a bit odd and surplus to requirements to me, but then again so do thumb rests. -

Apart from all the other extremely obvious things. I've never understood why people put thumb rests at the bottom of the strings. Surely that's an utterly pointless place. -

It's not cheap but it sure is nice....
Newfoundfreedom replied to vinorange's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
To be fair, the neck looks nice, and the colour wash on the back. If they'd gone with that on the front it might be a nice bass, but that finish is hideous. -

It'll be flat by now. Zombie thread resurrection.

It's an 8 year old introduction post and the OP hasn't been on the forum for almost 3 years so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I'd have to counter by saying it's not cheap, nor is it nice. That kind of finish always looks extremely cheap and tacky to me. It reminds me of all those 80's budget basses and guitars that were trying to look much flashier than they actually were. Give me plain colour or natural wood any day. -
This'll be divisive...thankfully it's in the USA

I like it. Dirt cheap too. -
I nominate this for post of the month. 😂

Erm........ I've had far too many glasses of red wine to argue. Ergo. I agree. (I think)

But that implies a massive amount of musical snobbery. Do you think (for example) jazz is superior to metal? I think it's just a matter of personal taste. If that's the case then I'm happy to be Neanderthal. I'll take Cliff Burton over Jaco Pastorius any day. Just like I'd be much more at home with a ham sandwich than a bowl of caviar. The perception that one is better than the other is absolute nonsense.
-
I suppose it very much depends on your perspective and musical tastes. Jazz, R&B and funk mean nothing to me. All my musical tastes and influences come from rock, punk, metal, and blues. To me jazz is just a load of random notes with absolutely no musicality. It just sounds like roadworks. That doesn't mean I'm right. It's all just a matter of opinion and perspective. At the end of the day, I like what I like. Simple as that.

Yup. There's no black and white, right or wrong. Whatever gets you where you want to be is superb. I think bass players are generally much more diverse and laid back than a lot of other instrumentalists. Maybe it comes with the job title.

I have the same problem with Scott. Clickbait marketing and rambling YouTube videos aside (which I understand is very much "playing the marketing game") Despite him being undoubtedly a phenomenal player and good teacher, I can't stand his style of playing. I have absolutely no desire to play the plinky plonky Jaco worshipping noodly jazz he teaches. It does absolutely nothing for me musically. I much prefer Mark at Talkingbass. His much more down to earth presentation and no nonsense teaching style suit me far more, and the lessons cater much more to the kind of music I like to listen to and want to play. Horses for courses I suppose. I know loads of people who have benefited immensely from Scott's lessons. But it's not for me.

Personally I'd go with a humbucker, preferably with the option to split the coils. Best of both worlds. 😉
