Can I do Royal Blood with just a Zoom pedal? Answer: No! 😂
Newfoundfreedom replied to Pea Turgh's topic in Effects
I would imagine you could get the guitar sound. Something like octave up - distortion - harmony (for the 5th above to give it a power chord sound.) However, you would still need a way of splitting and recombining the signal to switch between clean bass / guitar / guitar and bass. I used to do it with a line 6 M13 using variations of the effects above. Plus an AB/Y pedal to change between "instruments" and a blender pedal to recombine the signal. -

Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
I never critique other people's music from the point of view of a musician. I'm nowhere near qualified. I'd even go as far as to say, every single one of the bands or musicians I don't like are probably far more talented than I'll ever be*. So my opinions are purely based on personal taste as a listener. (* Except those bloody Bulgarian clarinet players. They need beating to death with their own instruments) 😆 -

One of my best friends is of the same opinion. He's wrong too. 😆 -

I hate Bulgarian music. Which is unfortunate because I live in Bulgaria. It seems to me to be like traditional Greek music on speed. Usually with a clarinet shoehorning about 40 notes into every beat. Or even worse, a keyboard on clarinet setting. It's just a horrible cacophony of disjointed noise. Usually accompanied by a woman wailing as if she's just lost her nearest and dearest. It's almost as bad as jazz. Almost! -
Thumb rests, what am I missing here?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Random Guitarist's topic in Bass Guitars
I've never felt the need for one personally. In fact I think a thumb rest would just get in the way and annoy me. When playing the lowest string my hand is free floating, when playing on any other string my thumb is either resting on the string below, or floating / muting the strings below. I don't know if this is considered poor or good technique. It's not something I've ever particularly thought about or practiced. It's just the way I naturally play. -

Janis Joplin. The last time I heard something make a noise like that it had been run over. -
Yes. And I will continue to do so. I didn't create the system, but I shall damn well continue to exploit it wherever possible. If you have the money for £1000 amp, then good for you. I don't.

My musical knowledge when it comes to bands is barely above zero. I think there's maybe two or three bands that i could name all the members, and maybe only about 30 where I could name more than a single member. I also couldn't name a single track by the vast majority of bands I hear mentioned on here regularly. On the other end of the scale. I can sing along with many songs word for word, but if you asked me who the artist was, I wouldn't have a single clue.

I know what I'd go for if I had a spare 500 quid knocking around. 😋 https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/464629-ibanez-srff806-bks-6-string-manchester-price-drop-£495/

Exactly. It's the way of the world. Absolutely pointless moaning about it if the companies involved can't, or won't enforce it. Whether the people who can afford the originals like it or not, these things exist, and while ever they do, I will buy them, simply because i can't afford the high prices "originals". The hard truth of the matter is, if it wasn't for companies like Behringer and HB, I and millions like me couldn't afford to be musicians. Why should music be yet another thing that's only available to the rich? Long live the rip offs! Now I'm off to put on my Aditoff tracksuit and Reebark trainers, and go to the shop for a lovely packet of McTitties biscuits.

Help with recording web video content
Newfoundfreedom replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
No. OBS is a live broadcast software that will allow you to capture and transmit (or record) from a video and audio source. It would be perfect for your original query of live recording a screen while you narrate what you are doing "live". But it's not designed in any way for video editing. -

Another one. I could go all day on these but I'm trying to ration myself. Eric Clapton is the most overrated guitarist of all time. Absolutely dull as dishwater.- 761 replies

Bugera may have been named after a car. But Markbass looks like it's been styled by Halfords. 😆

Scott's Bass Lessons technique accelerator
Newfoundfreedom replied to nekomatic's topic in Theory and Technique
Yup. Just deleted the spam email and unsubscribed from the mailing list for about the third time. -
I'm with Stu in this one. There's no danger of me ever buying a Genz, so Bugera certainly aren't stealing my custom. What they are doing, is providing an absolutely stonking amp at a budget that I can afford. Long live Bugera, Beringer, Harley Benton et all.

I can't stand DJ's, and I find it utterly ridiculous that people would flock in their thousands to watch, what is essentially a human CD multi-changer flouncing around on stage like they're actually creating something. -

OBS Studio. Free, easy to use, and does everything you need plus a lot more. -
Don't know the model. But my wife (band singer) has a Seinheisser. She's had it for probably 20 years and it's an absolutely fantastic mic.

Thank God! I thought it was just me. Absolutely agree with this 100% I'd never even heard of Jaco until I joined this forum, so I looked him up on YouTube, and I thought it was a wind up. It's like a bad comedy spoof of a bass player. -
Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
Some of these might be a bit controversial, but seeing as it's purely about personal opinion. I think Oasis are probably the most overrated band of the last 50 years, whilst Extreme are probably the most underrated. I absolutely loathe jazz. To my ear it's just noise pollution. Noodly jazz bassists just sound ridiculous. I also hate the whole rock / rap crossover thing (and rap in general) It's the worst thing that ever happened to rock music. Thunder should have been the biggest band in the world.
