Entry level 6 with simlar string spacing to Squire J Bass?
Newfoundfreedom replied to DocTrucker's topic in Bass Guitars
I have the ESP, it's an absolute dream to play. The neck is super sleek, it made for an easy shift to playing a sixer. But it does weigh about the same as a large bungalow. The Cort basses look superb for the money. There was a sixer on here a few months ago at a ridiculously good price. I was so tempted! -
Entry level 6 with simlar string spacing to Squire J Bass?
Newfoundfreedom replied to DocTrucker's topic in Bass Guitars
My two penneth for what it's worth. A sixer with 19mm string spacing would be hell to play. Firstly, I'd forget about that. A sixer is an entirely different beast to a 4 string bass. However, it's surprising how quickly you get used to it. I went from having never played anything but a 4 string, straight to playing a six, and within a few days it became second nature. I can happily and easily change from one to the other, but I actually much prefer playing the sixer because of the tighter string spacing, everything is much more "under your fingers" so to speak. The spacing is actually much less of an issue than learning good muting techniques. If you want a cheap as chips way of dipping your toe in the water with a sixer, buy a Harley Benton. I had one for a while, and as with all their instruments, they're ridiculously good value for money and much better quality than the price would suggest. https://www.thomann.de/intl/harley_benton_b_650_black_progressive_series.htm?i11l=en_GB%3AGB.EUR%3AGBP -

Is it time to quit the band, or not?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Storky's topic in General Discussion
Whether it's malicious or not doesn't really make a difference (or at least it wouldn't to me) it all comes down to self respect at the end of the day. If you are aware of the value you bring, and other people aren't, and / or they're not even willing to consider it, then it's a one sided relationship, and that never works. Whether that's in a band, in a job, or in a relationship. There's most likely any number of bands out there looking for a good bass player who would feel absolutely privileged to have you. Don't sell yourself short. -

I don't usually comment on this type of thread. At the end of the day it's down to the individual to make up their own minds. The fact that they bothered to post in the first place usually means they already have, and are just looking for someone to talk then out of it. There's often musical differences in a band that can someone's be hard to overcome. I can live with that. If it's something that makes the band better overall then it's worth the work. In this instance though, it's the absolute lack of respect for your skill and contribution that would be the final nail in the coffin for me. It sounds like the rest of the band (or at least half of them) couldn't care less whether you're there or not. That would be plenty reason enough for me to walk. -

I think the flange on the discombobulater has been incorrectly fitted perpendicular to the rotation of washer on the shaft. -

Give it a couple of seconds whirring, then refresh the page. Works for me. -
We had a drummer turn up for an audition. 30 minutes late, absolutely stunk, and constantly smoked roll ups. These days we'd probably be criticised for not hiring him because he also happened to be Belgian.

Bloody hell, now there's a Brian May watch!!
Newfoundfreedom replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
I quite like that. It's gone one more zero than I'd pay for it though. -
No men in the band? Funny isn't it. If it was an all girl group people wouldn't bat an eyelid at that one. It certainly wouldn't be on here stirring up controversy.

Self moderated, because, well quite frankly I can't be bothered.

Sad but true, and just shows how utterly ridiculous such laws are when applied without common sense. Maybe I should file a lawsuit because, as a male I wasn't allowed to join the Spice Girls. I look better in a Union Jack mini dress than Gerry, and I have a better singing voice. It's pure discrimination I tell ya!

Mysogeny! Report then to the police and have them sent directly to jail! Seriously. Assuming that they mean they don't want any women in the band, as opposed to they're are no women in the band then that's fine. It's their band. They can do what they want. File it under unsuitable and move on.

200% of attachment limit

Yup. I had the same earlier. I deleted all my attachments for the last 3 years since I joined the forum and then it let me post another image. Some strange stuff going on with the forum today. -
New Posts Stalling/Having to Refresh Page

Yup. I've been having the same problem. Post something and the wheel just keeps turning for an age. I think the Hamster is on its last legs. Manually refreshing the feed seems to do the trick. -

The highs and lows of original music
Newfoundfreedom replied to Graham's topic in General Discussion
Mixing is even worse. 2 hours listening to a track and I can't tell the difference between a flute and roadworks. -
These are superb! Don't be put off by the badge, they're as good as anything or there at three times the price. This is my go to amp. Small, light, powerful as hell, and very versatile tone wise. I've had mine for over 3 years and uses it for regular practice and gigging without a hitch. If you're not sure about these, or you just want a great, small footprint backup amp, just buy it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Shame it's not the tube version or I'd have it myself just to complete the set.

You'd be better served posting in the Wanted section.

I wouldn't even go 150 miles for a holiday.

I agree, to a degree. I must admit I like to be on the low side in the mix. But it very much depends on the band and style of music. In a 3 piece rock band for example, the bass is as much as integral part of the overall sound as anything else. Arguably in disco / mowtown / R&B etc, even more so.
