  1. They don't need to be bad at all. They could in fact be better than many paid bands. What some people seem to be forgetting, is that some people play just for the love of it. Money is secondary, if an issue at all. My prevoius band were a covers band playing English / American covers here in Bulgaria, to a mostly Bulgarian audience. We built up quite a following and were even featured in a local newspaper. Every penny we ever earned was donated to a local children's charity.
  2. I don't see a problem to perpetuate. If a band wants to play for free. Then it's nobody's business but their own. If a band wants to charge. Then they have every right to do so. At the end of the day, everyone is just chasing an audience. Some for financial gain. Some to raise their profile. And some just for the fun of it.
  3. Then I wish you the best of luck applying this to your musical career.
  4. Definitely not worth the risk!
  5. Which is a perfectly valid point for someone who has been done the block a bit, and been a musician for many years with plenty of experience under their belt. Not so much for a 17 year old in their first original material band trying to even find an audience to play to.
  6. Which beggars the question, how do you get established as an unknown band? Simple. You play for free until enough people have seen you that you have built up a reputation and a following. Then you can charge for your efforts. These kind of threads happen quite often on here every time playing for free is mentioned, and they almost always turn into a debate on whether or not band should play for free in the first place. It's pretty pointless really. How does anyone ever get to the stage of getting paid, if they don't first play for free to build an audience? Ok there are exceptions with professionally trained musicians with musical degrees. But then they're unlikely to be playing down the Dog and Duck for fifty quid a time anyway. There are two totally valid sides to the arguement and neither is right or wrong. I can see why professional musos wouldn't want to lose work to bands playing for free. I can also totally see why hobby bands, or bands trying to build a following would do so. It's just the nature of the game.
  7. Definitely sounds like an uphill gig this one. 😅
  8. I've never been paid for a gig. Business as usual then.
  9. Not only is it an alcohol free bar. It's an alcohol free bar, In the afternoon......... On a farm! Where do I sign up?
  10. Sounds like a right laugh doesn't it?
  11. I actually meant Future Impact. 😅
  12. Pre gig routine. 1. Set up. 2. Drink cider
  13. I do also like the look of the deep impact. I don't mind getting stuck into the programming and creating patches side of things. Sadly, as usual funds are none existent. But I'm itching to get into the synth side of things. I think it would help to fill out the sound nicely in my originals band as we only have one guitarist. I may have to look into selling or trading my Beat Buddy to fund the purchase. I think they run around the same price. 🤔
  14. I really like the look of the sy-1. The only thing that would put me off is the lack of ability to save patches. So if you used more than one sound you would have to bend down and fumble with the nobs mid set, rather than just hitting a patch pedal. Other than that, judging by the videos I've seen on YouTube. It looks like the most useable synth pedal I've ever seen.
  15. I always count to two when I see Carol Vorderman.
  16. Yup. I still think these things are seriously underrated. Don't be put off by the name. They're better than a lot of amps three times the price. I don't even get GAS for other amps any more. This thing does everything I need, and then some.
  17. Totally agree with this. I'd love to be a professional musician (I'm nowhere near talented enough) But I'd absolutely hate to be famous. A session musician gig where you get to play on stage to a large audience, but still go about your every day life unhindered would be perfect.
  18. I knew the Ramones version first. Also Guns n Roses version of Sympathy for the Devil before the Stones version I'm sure there are many more.
  19. Best gigs I ever went to was with a good friend of mine who is paralysed from the waist down and in a wheelchair. Although he's totally independent, he gets to take someone along as a career and they go free. So we'd go halves in the price of his ticket. Priority entry. The views were always phenomenal, no danger of anyone bumping into you or standing in front of you, and usually no more than a few yards from a toilet.
  20. No they just stand up. Then the people behind them have to stand up to see, and so and and so on. I would never go to a gig unless it's seated, due to a back problem which means I can't stand for long periods of time. Then you get some bell end standing and the whole arena has to stand. Which makes having a seat pointless. Pretty much the reason I haven't been to a large gig for over a decade.
  21. More zombies popping up on here lately than on The Walking Dead.
  22. Is this thread any good for metal?
  23. Will pubs even be a thing in the UK after lockdown? From what I've seen on social media over the past few months it appears that every single person in the UK has built their own "pub" in their back garden shed. All future gigs will now include dodging dog turds and trying not to fall into a koi pond.
  24. Thanks. Glad it's not just me who's never heard of it. 😅
