Instruments you'd buy, but wouldn't...
Newfoundfreedom replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much all Fenders. The headstock makes me want to barf. The whole Ibanez Soundgear range. Lovely basses, but the SDGR logo makes them look like a child's toy. Single cut high end basses like Fodera. I'd love to try one, but there's absolutely no need for the top of the body to go half way up the neck. It just looks crap. -
What a load of old tosh. There's no racism on here. We're all far too busy being sexist. 😘

IDENTIFICATION on secondhand bass (Pictures included)

An absolute steal. -
I must be even dumber, because i don't get the connection.

I've been gassing over the six string version of this for months now. What are your impressions of it, other than the weight, which is what most reviews go on about.

IDENTIFICATION on secondhand bass (Pictures included)
Newfoundfreedom replied to Smollfaces's topic in Bass Guitars
I've had a few bits of Vintage gear over the years and I've always found them to be superb. They punch well above their weight in terms of quality / cost. Especially the stuff with Wilkinson hardware. Which imho is 95 percent as good as anything out there, at a tenth of the cost. I'm currently having massive sellers remorse over selling my Vintage Les Paul guitar. I shouldn't have let it go, but I figured as I was never going to be a guitarist I may as well put the money into bass gear. Now I'm getting into recording and I need a guitar again. 😩 -
I wouldn't say P basses are boring tonally, but looking at them either makes me want to sleep or vomit, depending on which part I'm looking at. The body is just dull, with an added coating of bland, and the headstock makes the elephant mans brow look attractive.

That's exactly what I did. I quit gigging, and the band I was in in September last year, well before the pandemic kicked in. I just didn't enjoy it. However, having had some time away, and currently in a new band doing all original material, I'm looking forward, although far from desperate, to get back to it. But I will be far more selective in what gigs I do. From now on it's going to be afternoon parties, barbeques, festivals, charity do's etc. I have absolutely no interest in playing in bars or doing late night gigs.

EBay almost always sides with buyers. They can get away with murder. That's one of the reasons I stopped selling on there years ago. As a seller you have almost zero protection.

Go faster stripes on your bass
Newfoundfreedom replied to Richard Jinman's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It says in the add. The paint stripper ran so he painted a white stripe around the edge to mask it. Presumably with a tree branch. -
Go faster stripes on your bass

I was thinking the same thing. -
The Fender P bass has the ugliest headstock in the world. (YMMV) I'd take that over a Fender any day. Although sadly it still has the bland Fender style body.

It's not free, but Jam Origin midi guitar, and midi bass is a great bit of software. It basically turns your guitar or bass into a midi instrument, which is ideal if, like me, you can't play keys but can fumble a few chords on guitar. You can then change those chords to any instrument you want. You get both the standalone program and the vst version when you buy it and it's also available to download and try for free. It tracks surprisingly well and can add a whole new dimension to your recording. https://www.jamorigin.com/

When will you start gigging again?
Newfoundfreedom replied to julietgreen's topic in General Discussion
Gigging is not a problem for me. All my fan socially distances himself. -
Purely a personal taste thing (or arguably lack of). I can't stand Fender basses. They're just bland with a side order of meh. Those stupid big elephant ear tuners make me want to retch, and the shape of the headstock is like the elephant mans eyebrow. Although at least the Jag has a far more interesting body shape than the standard P or J basses, so it has that going for it. YMMV.

They don't go for much anyway. I sold one in absolutely immaculate condition recently for the equivalent of about £140. They're great for the money, but damn they're ugly! (Purely subjective of course). I sold mine because I couldn't ever see myself playing it in public. Now I'm trying to get into a bit of recording I wish I'd kept it because it sounded great.

Dee Dee Ramone's P Bass - Auction
Newfoundfreedom replied to James Nada's topic in General Discussion
This ^ I just don't get it. I mean I understand it, from a memorabilia point of view. But as an instrument, no way! I can't understand how or why someone, other than a museum or hall of fame type establishment, would pay that kind of money for something that's otherwise worth, at best a few hundred quid, just because it's been in the hands of someone "famous"' -
I can't even remember the name of the band I used to be in.
-
I've got the full fat one. As already said, it's a superb bit of kit. With a bit of practice I'd happily gig with it.

Bass guitar for 10 year old Seems like a fair swap. If only I had a 10 year old.

Is this like the textual version of a Mic drop. Billy's here! FULL STOP!
