Thanks. I have now been vaccinated against Brexit so it makes no difference to me. Anyway........ Back to Thomann (hastily retreats and hopes the mods don't notice the "B" word) -
Prices from Thomann etc post Jan 31st
Newfoundfreedom replied to Paddy515's topic in General Discussion
I'm very thankful I got out of the UK when I did. Over 4 years ago now, but I was working, saving and planning for the move for 10 years prior to that, so it's been a long road. Luckily I got my residency card here long before the U.K had a mental breakdown. Sadly, as you say, it's unlikely that it will be so easy after the next 12 months is up. -
I've never really used effects so I'm at a bit of a loss. I've had a Line 6 M13 knocking around for a few years which I want to use. On paper is the perfect device for me. I don't need or want any kind of amp / cab simulation, and I don't really use any distortion, which is a bit of a weak with these (and most multi effects) and I utterly loathe faffing around with "patches". It's far too complicated and time consuming. For those who don't know, the M13 is basically 12 standalone stomp boxes in one unit (plus tuner, looper etc) of which any 4 can be used at one time, in any combination. (Picture below, but I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about) So what's the problem? Well basically it's just become an oversized, overpriced tuner and occasional reverb pedal. There's just too much choice and too many combinations, and I basically haven't got a clue what I'm doing when it comes to effects (by which I mean which effects to use for what. I'm fine with the operation of the actual pedal) So I'm looking for a bit of advice of what to use / which effects to combine to get different useable sounds. So for example at the minute, we have a song which i'd like to use a cello type of sound on, but I have absolutely no clue which effects use / combine to create such a sound. So what effects combinations do you guys use, and what kind of sound do you get from them? (the type of effects please rather than the name. I have no idea what a "Big Muff" sounds like) I'm just looking for a few ideas to get me started, then I'll play around and tweak things from there. Thanks muchly.

Not a problem for me, as I have a UK passport, and pre-existing EU citizenship. Best of both worlds. 😎 (Of course all UK citizens had the same rights before the lunatics were put in charge of the asylum) -
Band joining/leaving shenanigans. Update - The Decision...
Newfoundfreedom replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
I can see why you'd be annoyed. But in all honesty who wouldn't do the same thing? (assuming that the singer's email it's true) Surely, ability being comparable, anyone would go with a mate given the chance. I personally wouldn't even be interested in being in a band with strangers. Being in a band for me is all about hanging around with my mates making a noise. Although I appreciate it's a very different situation in a professional outfit. -

Easily solved. Just leave the UK. Plenty more cheap Thomann goodies for me. 😁 Oh, and did I mention the cheap beer, low cost of living, borderless travel, and the right to live and work anywhere in Europe unhindered. I really miss the UK. 😋- 22 replies

"One of a kind. Rare oportunidade to add a unique piece of instrument to your collection" A rare OPORTUNIDADE indeed. If only I had loads of monooney and very little sensimelia.

Songs you dont like but with Interesting Bass lines
Newfoundfreedom replied to sbrag's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much anything by The Cure. Can't stand their music generally, but a lot of the bass riffs are cracking. Love Cats for example. Utter dross! But I love the bass on it. https://youtu.be/mcUza_wWCfA -
No mine was a much earlier and cheaper model. I think probably the aforementioned 506.

Fender Bass VI , bass or baritone guitar ?
Newfoundfreedom replied to martin8708's topic in Bass Guitars
I must admit I quite fancied one for a while, but I went with an actual 6 string bass in the end. I suspect, due to the string spacing, it would feel much more like a guitar than a bass, and playing with fingers would be difficult if not impossible. I'd still like to get my hands on one and try it fist hand though. The Squire VI looks nice too, and it's not overly expensive. -
Fan-fret basses...scale lengths/the science.
Newfoundfreedom replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
I can't comment on the science, but I just can't get over the looks. It's like one of those optical illusion puzzles. The fretboard always looks warped and bent to me, even though my conscious brain knows it's straight. So looking at them always (genuinely) makes me feel slightly nauseous. -
Anyone near Hull ? Stupid Cheap Bargain
Newfoundfreedom replied to kodiakblair's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It's not a scratch plate. It's a one piece bridge. That's the whole party piece of Trabens. They have oversized super high mass bridges. They sound superb, and sustain for days! -
Anyone near Hull ? Stupid Cheap Bargain
Newfoundfreedom replied to kodiakblair's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I have one of these with Seymour Duncan pups and preamp. It's absolutely superb! I paid about £250 for it. The one above looks a bit rough, but still a bargain. -
It will be interesting to see what it goes for, but the current price is often no reflection on the final selling price. In my experience most of the bidding on eBay is done in the last 5 seconds. Anyone bidding earlier than that is just having a punt, and stand little chance of actually winning. Unless they've already bid more than the item is worth.

Well you lot have talked me into it. I think I'm gong to add one to my Thomann order on Monday.

Story of my life. The E's always wear off too quickly.

Weirdly, I love a good rock ballad. Nothing clever, nothing noodley, just the bass providing solid bottom end underneath guitar chords.

The only thing that puts me off slightly, is I'm sure I had a Zoom pedal many years ago, kind of looked like this but with a circular central display. Probably much older than this model. But I just remember everything sounding really wooley and pretty much useless.
-
If they run out, they're only £2.65 more on Thomann with 3 year warranty and 30 day return policy 😉 I've got an order I want to place with Thomann anyway, so I might just stick one of these in the list. I thought they were just cheap, outdated crappy plastic pedals, but the review are actually pretty good. I'm generally not a fan of "patch" driven pedals, they're way too much arsing about, and I don't really use many effects, occasionally a bit of reverb. But I need a new tuner anyway. At at that price it's probably worth it just for a tuner and reverb pedal.

That's the only theory you need.

I've heard plenty of music compiled by NI (no intelligence) No Limits by 2 Unlimited being the first track that springs to mind.
