  1. Must have taken him all day. At £8 an hour. That's at least forty quids worth of work. Too rich for my blood!
  2. It's nice enough. But I never really got the vintage instrument thing. I'd rather have something shiney and new. Maybe I'm just a heathen.
  3. Oh God No! That's just noise! Maybe (thankfully) my mind is only capable of comprehending kindergarten jazz.
  4. Musically it's fine. Quite a catchy little ditty. Reminiscent of some of the early 90's Indy stuff. I just hate bad lyrics. I'm surprised by the recent thread on the very subject, how many people don't care about, or even listen to lyrics. Bad, forced, meaningless lyrics are a deal breaker for me.
  5. Oh God those lyrics though! "What rhymes with bass?" "Space?" "Yeah, that'll do. Let's shoehorn that in." My brain is trying to remove itself from my ears.
  6. The reason the room is empty is because they all saw you caring that lot in. They're all standing over the other side of the car park. 😂
  7. Yeah I've never really felt the "need" for one, but I've recently started learning a lot more music theory, and I've kind of got to the stage of, now is as good a time as any. I might never actually play one live, but just as a tool / learning exercise I think it could be worth it. Plus I've just seen a dirt cheap 5er for sale locally. So it might be worth a punt.
  8. I'm not even going through the pretence. I'm already hankering for a foray into the world of 5 strings and it's not even Christmas yet. Ooh, that's a thought. If I buy one before new year, I can still try to convince myself I'm not going to buy anything next year. 😄
  9. Wow. Is low F# even audible? I wouldn't fancy my cabs chances down that low.
  10. Oh yeah. Absolute brain f@rt moment. I don't know what I was thinking. I told you it was a daft question. Oh well. I'll leave the thread here just for comedy value.
  11. ..... But here goes anyway. As my old highschool teacher used to say. The only daft questions are the ones you don't ask. I've never played a 5 string in my life. I don't think I've ever even picked one up, so please forgive my ignorance. Why is the bottom string on a 5 string bass tuned to B? Presumably it's that way to mirror the 5th string on a guitar, but the only reason that guitars are tuned that is to enable the playing of chords (I may be wrong about that too), which is something we don't generally need to do, certainly not down at the bottom end. Wouldn't it make more sense to tune the low string to C? That way you're keeping the intervals and box shapes consistent across the neck. Unless you desperately need a low B, then it just seems to make more sense to me to tune to C? Is this something anyone does? If I decided to dip my toe (or fingers as it were) into the world of 5ers, is there any reason I can't tune to CEADG? Given that it's only a semitone higher I can't see as it would make a massive difference to string tension or pressure on the neck.
  12. Mine is the exact opposite. The quality is unbelievable. It feels like it should be three times the price.
  13. When I was 10 I was still eating coal.
  14. Bloody guitarists! Coming over here taking our jobs! Somebody should build a wall!
  15. I fancy a Reekinburger. Or actually, just a burger. It's been a long night at the pub and the kebab shop was closed. Funnily enough, kebabs always give me GAS.
  16. Does anyone else have a particular song that settles you into a set at a live performance. The song, or a stage at a gig where you really start to relax, forget that you're playing in front of a crowd, and really just enjoy playing? For me it was "Drive" by Joe Bonamassa. A song that I was blissfully unaware of before my old band started to play it. I'd never heard it in my life, and I actually hated it when we first started playing it. But once we started playing it live, it was like therapy. I just stopped worrying / thinking and just enjoyed playing.
  17. Love Maiden. Loathe football. But I do like those shirts. I'd wear one if it wasn't for the fact people would think I'm a footballist fan rather than an Iron Maiden fan.
  18. I've never seen that particular configuration before. Definitely a collectors item.
  19. I have a line 6 m13 with hundreds of effect combinations. Other than using a bit of reverb and the tuner I've never found a practical use for it yet. Now it lives in a box in the corner of the music room.
  20. I don't care how good he is. I wouldn't hire him. Never trust anyone who speaks about themselves in the third person. Newfoundfreedom doesn't like that one little bit.
  21. I did think that when I wrote it. If anyone wants it, you're welcome to it. 😉
  22. I'm playing this one close to my chest for now. It really is (at least i think) a great band name, with absolutely no online presence. That's as rare as unicorn eggs. I will tell all once I've finished nailing down the name officially, and registered all the social media sites etc. 😉
