  1. Oh yeah. Absolute brain f@rt moment. I don't know what I was thinking. I told you it was a daft question. Oh well. I'll leave the thread here just for comedy value.
  2. ..... But here goes anyway. As my old highschool teacher used to say. The only daft questions are the ones you don't ask. I've never played a 5 string in my life. I don't think I've ever even picked one up, so please forgive my ignorance. Why is the bottom string on a 5 string bass tuned to B? Presumably it's that way to mirror the 5th string on a guitar, but the only reason that guitars are tuned that is to enable the playing of chords (I may be wrong about that too), which is something we don't generally need to do, certainly not down at the bottom end. Wouldn't it make more sense to tune the low string to C? That way you're keeping the intervals and box shapes consistent across the neck. Unless you desperately need a low B, then it just seems to make more sense to me to tune to C? Is this something anyone does? If I decided to dip my toe (or fingers as it were) into the world of 5ers, is there any reason I can't tune to CEADG? Given that it's only a semitone higher I can't see as it would make a massive difference to string tension or pressure on the neck.
  3. Mine is the exact opposite. The quality is unbelievable. It feels like it should be three times the price.
  4. When I was 10 I was still eating coal.
  5. Bloody guitarists! Coming over here taking our jobs! Somebody should build a wall!
  6. I fancy a Reekinburger. Or actually, just a burger. It's been a long night at the pub and the kebab shop was closed. Funnily enough, kebabs always give me GAS.
  7. Does anyone else have a particular song that settles you into a set at a live performance. The song, or a stage at a gig where you really start to relax, forget that you're playing in front of a crowd, and really just enjoy playing? For me it was "Drive" by Joe Bonamassa. A song that I was blissfully unaware of before my old band started to play it. I'd never heard it in my life, and I actually hated it when we first started playing it. But once we started playing it live, it was like therapy. I just stopped worrying / thinking and just enjoyed playing.
  8. Love Maiden. Loathe football. But I do like those shirts. I'd wear one if it wasn't for the fact people would think I'm a footballist fan rather than an Iron Maiden fan.
  9. I've never seen that particular configuration before. Definitely a collectors item.
  10. I have a line 6 m13 with hundreds of effect combinations. Other than using a bit of reverb and the tuner I've never found a practical use for it yet. Now it lives in a box in the corner of the music room.
  11. I don't care how good he is. I wouldn't hire him. Never trust anyone who speaks about themselves in the third person. Newfoundfreedom doesn't like that one little bit.
  12. I did think that when I wrote it. If anyone wants it, you're welcome to it. 😉
  13. I'm playing this one close to my chest for now. It really is (at least i think) a great band name, with absolutely no online presence. That's as rare as unicorn eggs. I will tell all once I've finished nailing down the name officially, and registered all the social media sites etc. 😉
  14. OK I finally came up with something that the rest of the band like. There are no other bands with the name, and even the .com, Facebook page, Instagram etc are all available. Happy days!
  15. To be fair, the "intro" was never part of the original song. The sped up version was used on an advert, which made the song famous, but pretty much no one had ever heard the original version. So they presumably made the best of the situation and cashed in by releasing the single with the sped up version as an into so people would recognise it. Who can blame them really.
  16. Wow. That's exactly the song that popped into my head, and was going to be my response, before I even opened the thread. Brilliant minds and all that.
  17. I think it's for slicing eggs.
  18. Quick heads up if anyone else is interested. There's a black Friday sale on today with 30% of all courses. I've just bought the Basic Fundamentals course for £35 instead of the usual price of £50. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in now.
  19. They called it Anarchy. It still makes me cringe. It was the late 80's and we were all into heavy metal. But even then the whole Anarchy thing, and name, had been beaten to death.
  20. Yup. That's exactly what happened in my previous band. Sadly I can't now remember the "better" name. Lol
  21. I tried that. Debbie Does Dallas is taken.
  22. I used to have this debate with my ex guitarist all the time. He said the band name wasn't important at all. I personally think it's massively important. Especially in this day and age of social media, trying to get an original Facebook page, Instagram, web page, email, etc. OK, granted, the music is first and foremost. But if you pick a crap name, once you get our and about, you're pretty much stuck with it. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I missed a practice with the first band I was in, and they picked a name while I was away, which I absolutely hated, but they'd already painted the bass drum skin and everything. I used to cringe every time anyone asked me what our band was called.
  23. I actually like Thunderpaws. 😂😠
