I have a Mustang PJ and I thought it probably sounded better than a regular 'Stang with its smaller pickup. Then I got a Squier 'Stang with racing stripe. It gets deep bass like on the live Stones album "Get Yer Ya Yas Out".So now I respect the humble Mustang pickup .

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

The pickup placement might make a ton of bass, like a Gibson EB-O. A bass needs some twang or bite. This one seems like an econo EB-3. Good to learn on probably. -
I have this bass also ! I like the brushed chrome metal parts.

Embassy Green ! I got an early white colour.

There is a Hagstrum semi-hollow body I played recently-double cutaway . It had a rotary pickup selecter with more than three positions. It played pretty well .Sounded OK too. $800 -

What is the most you'd personally pay for a new bass?
grenadillabama replied to lidl e's topic in Bass Guitars
I paid $1600 for a new US Stingray before they went up with 18 volts. It feels better than my Sterling Ray 34 but sounds no better. So $1000 is my limit now. -
Get some black or dark brown paint onto those bald patches around the edge. It will look fine to the audience.

No thumbrest for me as I move bridge to neck for harder or softer (more bass). Now I try to pick thumb-finger-thumb to get some use out of it. The thumb is louder and more bass than any finger. Also palm-mute for a click-thump. A pick for variety .

Musicman Stingray - Such a love/hate relationship
grenadillabama replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
My 3 band Ray has an sound that seems to have lows that resemble the sound near the amp. A Precision like my Highway One seems to get the boom you hear in the back of the room. For a thick gtr mix a Ray can be dialed in to be heard. They do have a certain alien quality sometimes. -
I got a mint U5 and the tuners worked better than average. A Squier Mustang Bass has grindy tuners that are harder to change pitch just a little. The U5 gets good highs , somewhat unlike a Fender. (photo coming )

Upgrade Advice: Epi Thunderbird Vintage Pro

Those chrome pickups are good ! I wish I could buy some to add to my 'Stang and Precision. Embrace the chrome . -
Did he come back to Fender ? (from Alembic ?) Years ago I saw the Moody Blues and their bass man played an Alembic ; later he played an active Fender.

They use a Bass VI and a separate bass guitar ? Or not ?

I like Pinkie . The mint green is already used on many basses and will be too common soon. - and I have a mint green Ray and a mint green Sire U5 .Green is good . Pink better.

A perfect chick to have in a band. She played good, looked good, sang good, and wrote hit songs. In the early days at least she moved her own gear!

I bought one Squier Mustang Bass because it was $400 cheaper than a Mustang PJ , sounded a little different, and had a stripe ! That is my excuse for 2022. I also slipped into buying a Guild acoustic gtr. Abstinance is a tough trail to take and stick to.

I was playing my Mexican P Bass Deluxe yesterday and thought the sound was a hot P sound. The neck was a narrow-nut Jazz feel for the fretting hand. Another active P is a Schecter (can't remember the model but it is current ).
