  1. It's an upside down bass from Australia? 🤔
  2. I always lie my bass case along the footwell of the back seat. It's just about wide enough in there even though it doesn't fit in the boot. I also wouldn't leave it there unless I was driving with it. Apart from the security issue wouldn't the fluctuations in temperature with it essentially being outside (although sheltered) rather than in an environment with a more controlled temperature be problematic for the neck?
  3. It's a tricky one. If you drop songs on the premise that someone in the band has been a beast/sex case then you could easily get into a situation where a pub covers band wouldn't have anything to play. I think part of it is the notoriety of the individual in question and possibly how premeditated it's all been. So as mentioned Gary Glitter or the Lost Prophets would be a different case to say the Rolling Stones. Although didn't Bill Wyman marry Mandy Smith when she was 14? That must have been fairly premeditated and an incidence of grooming a child. Probably just a subjective thing sadly.
  4. Chris Ballew, the bass player/singer from Presidents of the USA, only had two strings on his bass too.
  5. That looks great @Jimothey. It looks from the pictures like the edges of the ply are pretty smooth. Was there a particular knack to that? I'm planning on making my own plywood body and am worried that it'll all just rip around the edges.
  6. For me a drummer that listens to the band is so important. The originals band I'm in got rid of a drummer last year who played with big headphones on with a click track in them. He didn't try to play with the band at all. He wanted to play to the click track and basically do four minutes of drum solo. It made playing the songs a bit of a chore at times. I felt like I was being pulled between keeping time with the drums and trying to play along with the guitars and drag them into the rigid timing of the drums that didn't really suit the music. Had three practices with a new drummer now and even though he wasn't that familiar with the songs at first he listens to the band and plays along with what's going on and it's making the songs a pleasure to play. Even when he's feeling his way around a song he's not learnt properly yet or goes into the wrong section or whatever, it's so much easier to play along to.
  7. I could actually believe that was a real Guardian article. Check your PMs.
  8. Cor! That looks like it's going to be great.
  9. I'd like to declare on record that I'm happy to take any money to endorse anything. *waits by messages inbox*
  10. If the pots are knackered and you just want to strip the active circuitry right out, would it just be a case of finding a wiring diagram for that bass, buying three new pots and a capacitor and wiring them up to the pickups? Do the pots operate like the ones on a jazz bass? There are lots of wiring diagrams for that setup on the Internet. Maybe even get a cheap breadboard so you can practice getting the wiring right without having to mess around soldering and resoldering.
  11. I always enjoyed playing Rebel Rebel when we used to do that. Still play it now when practising at home.
  12. Thanks for this. My Dad has a jigsaw I could borrow. I've used it before for laminate flooring and kitchen units so I'm not totally wet behind the ears with it! Although I've heard them mentioned I had to look up what a router was. I can imagine that's pretty hard to use? I find it hard enough getting a perfectly straight line with a jigsaw. Yeah I'd definitely use plywood or something first off! I suppose the problem with that would be sanding the edges smooth without it flaking everywhere?
  13. Cor! That looks brilliant. Inspiring thread. I don't suppose someone with very rudimentary woodworking skills, a drill, a handsaw and a chisel could aspire to something like that? I presume you'd need some serious carpentry tools? Whenever I've seen YouTube videos of people making bass bodies they've always been in a huge workshop passing the thing through industrial sanders and cutting machines. Would that be necessary or am I making excuses for myself? 😀
  14. We do that live as well so I just came up with something for it myself, which I really enjoyed doing.
  15. Rescue Me by Fontella Bass has a great bass line. I Want You Back by the Jacksons always makes me smile, but I don't know if I'd want to play it live as that middle eight is pretty unforgiving! Ballroom Blitz because it's lots of fun and dead easy. Plus there's a bass solo in it. Currently learning Mr. Blue Sky, Staying Out for the Summer and I'm Coming Out. Also learning Toxic by Britney Spears which is actually more fun that I expected. The timing on the verse is a bit tricky to learn (for me at least). Such a fun song. I've been trying to get that into our set for a while now. I'm going to redouble my efforts! Gah! I hate that song and we play it as an encore at the moment. If you're ever at one of our gigs feel free to take over on that one!
  16. So cathartic reading this thread! Thank goodness it's not just me being an idiot! I'm sure that doesn't help, but at least it's not just that.
  17. What's the method of cleaning? Do you use any particular product or just wipe them down with a dry cloth?
  18. We played Peaky's last summer and the area outside is pretty much pedestrianised, so the load in isn't great. Decent venue but the stage is very small. Take plenty of multiplugs as well if I remember rightly!
  19. Seems like it's 24 hours anyway. https://liverpool.gov.uk/parking-travel-and-roads/council-car-parks/victoria-street/
  20. You're best trying to find somewhere to park on Victoria Street and then walk down Temple court with it. There's a new multistory car park a bit further down on Victoria Street (if you check Google maps it's where there used to be a load of trees). Not sure how late it's open, but it's only a couple of blocks away. Parking is a pain in town.
  21. Same. Give me a pattern and I can learn that and play it. Songs which seem like just someone improvising and playing different things on each iteration of the chord structure are a nightmare and I pretty much put my foot down over those as too complicated to learn!
  22. This. If she's let you down for a better offer then she's obviously unreliable. It might be a pain but I would find someone else as otherwise you'll be worrying about this happening every time you book her. You obviously don't have to fall out with her, but I wouldn't be booking her for any more gigs.
