  1. Also known as a West One by the non-cognoscenti!!😄😄
  2. Please tell me, with all due respect, what's going on there.
  3. I once answered and ad for a bassist back in '79 and it said 'We can even give you a bass!' It was an Avon EB0. It did NOT work for the Genesis tunes they wanted to play.
  4. Christ, mate, you went through grief like that at 18?
  5. I sold it after I got my Ibby Ricky copy. Wasn't until my 40s that I realised selling your first one is a heinous crime. A Höfner HS 185 just like this, with the faux croc-skin, plush-lined case that smelled of vanilla, a smell that permeated even the bass itself. Occasionally I'll remember her and scour the ads but to no avail. There's one for sale down south but it's a bit more than I'd pay right now as other guitars still incoming. Couriers permitting, of course.
  6. Just spoke with the owner of the shop. He can't remember..... 🤔
  7. I am cursed when it comes to sending and receiving guitars. Thankfully, nothing has ever gone missing for good.
  8. The Stick was an instrument that one neede that 'touch' for it to work, irrespective of tuning. I just couldn't hack it. Francis Dunnery....he took it another level.
  9. Thank you. Had the 45. First ex-wife threw it out. But I had already melted it on my WEM Dominator combo.
  10. It's like how Jaco got that harmonic at the end of POT. It's impossible to reach otherwise. Or so I heard. I can't do it on a fretless off the cuff and I have s good stretch.
  11. Parcel2Go is not a courier service. It's a lottery out there. But here is GuitarGuitar using DPD and telling me what they will do if I'm not in: they tell me what drop-off point they will use if I'm not in! And it works!
  12. I bought a 10-string Stick in '85. Gave myself 9 months to learn something on it and I failed. I thought, having a good grounding in Pianoforte, that I could hack the Stick. Nope. Flogged it for a DX7 which I could actually use! Levin blew me away on that track. Then Trey Gunn arrives decades later and does it again on the Warr bass!
  13. I'll watch this when home. My fav ET is that one on Letterman.....Adrian Belew in that pink Modern Romance suit!!
  14. This gets better. TF it's a cheapo guitar, for if I had my usual fiscal investment to worry about I'd be heading to DHL's depot right now! Got an alert at half nine this morning to say that the guitar was OFD again today. I received no further updates until about thirty minutes ago when I got the attached. For consideration: the drop-off point was a local one recommended by DHL and whose proprietor I patronise! And he's rejected it! I have emailed Thomann. This is their hot potato now.
  15. I don't ever recall seeing a standby on SS. Hybrid, yes, but not SS. Interesting.
  16. That poly has either had acid poured over it or, as was hinted at in the previous thread, been victim to a heat gun
  17. That's the model I remember! A Standby switch! Were these valve amps?
  18. Undoubtedly. The only time I did manage to get through to a human being at Hermes, they could not assist me, other than saying there were problems at the depot.
  19. Yeh, Don't blame the broker. They did try and help me with the Steinberger that supposedly sat in Hermes' Edinburgh bulk depot for two weeks but even they couldn't get an answer out of Hermes. Even when the bass unexpectedly turned up in Vienna, it was still showing as being in Edinburgh. And that was just before the Pandemic hit in early 2020. Imagine what it's like now!!
  20. A large stipend, indeed!
