6. 'When Prophecy Fails' are an alternative metal band from the isle of wight, they are currently gigging & promoting themselves around the south coast. Along side this, they are recording an album of original material. Their current bass Dude is lacking in ability & commitment so they are looking for someone who is dedicated & with good ability. I've done some recording with these guy's here's the myspace link http://www.myspace.com/whenprophecyfailsiw I've heard them play & they are pretty awsome it's a shame that i can't do it myself but my age goes against me for this They are looking for someone aged between 18 to 24 If you think this could be for you give Robb a call on 07957 470555 or just pm me & i'll pass on the message.
7. have you checked out al turners album 'movin'. He plays a Ken Smith exclusively.
8. Hi Matt, Two lovely basses you have there, It seems we share the same taste in basses Dude (wals & smiths) Unfortunately i had to sell my smith as i was financialy Fubard, but i will have another one day, Have you tried sighning on to kens forum & trying a trade there? you never know As for 6 string wals ive only ever seen one & that belonged to Oliver (Spirit chaser) on here & i missed out big time when he sold it so i have placed an order with Paul herman for a new 6 string fretless, hopefully with me by mid summer. I'm always looking out for smiths & if i see anything around i'll let ya know, Al

13.
I'm sure I've asked you this before, so apologies for repeating myself, but........... Would a streamline be suitable for reggae ? I need a very deep, smooth fundamental tone with no mid or treble and I get that tone from an old Fender jazz bass using only the neck pup with heavy flatwound strings. The problem is weight with my bad back and I've tried a few alternatives, but always been disappointed with the tone. Do you know of any stockists where I could try a streamline before committing to buy ? Sorry for hijacking this thread. Thanks, Steve.
I think an old gibson ebo or eb3 would be ideal for reggae, they have the deepest sound i've ever heard on the neck pickup, They are very light too.
14. For me i just love the honky tone of a fretless bass with the bridge pickup solo'd, it's funky as hell. The one problem i have is constantly changing basses between songs if a more percussive tone is required, as slapping on a fretless doesent have the attack of a fretted. My solution: Wal basses have this pick attack thing going on (pull up on the volume control to activate it) so i was able to play the fretless bass & if a more percussive tone was required just a quick pull on the vol & hey presto "instant frets almost" Unfortunately i sold the wal many years ago but i have just ordered a new 6 string fretless from paul herman
15. I'm still available if anyone needs me
16. Sadly i dont have the fretless anymore
17.
Here's my trio '91 Midi 4 '94 Fretted 6 late 80's Fretless 5
That 6 string is lovely, how does the tone compare with your 4 string ?
18.
and then a 1971 Gibson EB3L
I want another one of these
19. If you could save a little more cash i would recomend looking around for a used Ken smith BT6 or BSR6, they are easy to play & have a superb sound, almost a single coil tone but with big balls. I owned a BT6 black tiger (check my avatar) & only sold it as i had run into financial problems, one day i'll have another ken smith but at the moment i have a wal sixer to pay for but that's another story
20. I think Ian king came from the isle of wight, if it's the same guy i saw him play localy to me with some soul band, he was using a warwick corvette, nice sound & a smooth player.
21. I had electric wood swap the neck on my wal custom as mine was fretted & i wanted a plain fretless, they did an exchange as pete said my original neck was good & could be refurbished, the cost was £250 exchanged or £450 just to buy the fretless neck but that was in 1994 i think
22. Have you tried putting that lovely thumb on the warwick forum? http://forum.warwick.de/
23. If you're using a 4x10 or 4x12 you could always split the speakers in the cab i.e. wire it like a stereo cab with two independant sockets on the back
