rack effects..

I've been using a tc electronics gmajor for a few years now with some cool results, a little chorus with a touch of reverb is great for a fretless solo or a slap solo & you can really delv into the eq on the gmajor for example: your playing some percussive tune slapping & popping a tight rythmic thing with your band & then in the middle it's time for your solo: change up one on the gmajor to the same sound but with reverb & a little boosting on the eq & bang you're in there face "awsome" the only thing with the gmajor is the tuner isn't too great for bass, but i would definately recomend this unit
  2. Just bought a trace elliot ah600smx head from jjtee, it was just as described & sounds awsome, he even brought it from surrey to portsmouth for me, Top guy to deal with Cheers Justin, Allan.

  5.
OK, bit of a problem with my TE head. I originally bought this last year before heading out on tour as it was the only decent SS head in the local shop, and I needed a back-up for my Marshall VBA which had been playing up a bit. On tour, the VBA duly killed itself in a flash of blown fuses (internal, so I didn't want to risk opening it up) and I fired up the Trace... Lo and behold, it sounded great. Brilliant thought I, SS reliability and great tone. A few months ago though the Trace started to develop a problem where the output will drop to unusable levels - it just turns itself down, in a way. There's nothing wrong with the kettle lead, or the speaker lead, or the cab. The pre-amp works fine (plenty of level there), and the DI works - its only the power section that goes funny. After about half an hour of being quiet, the amp starts to turn itself up again. Weird! The last time this happened (this week) the green backlight started to fluctuate in output too - this leads me to believe that its a power supply problem, but as I say I've tried four or five different power sources and leads so I can't fault the actual supply. Anyone got any ideas as to what is wrong with my "drop it from a crane" reliable amp??? *edit* for spelling
I have the same amp: trace elliot ah500 12 band graphic, compressor, harmonic emphasis & valve control, is this the one ?? my one was doing the same, as if someone was turning the volume down as i was playing & then after a while it would come back up again, Have you tried using the xlr speaker socket ? the problem with my one was the circuit board that the speaker sockets are mounted on "dry joints" i resoldered them & i now use the xlr socket instead of the jack, i have done hellishly long gigs with it in some really hot places & have not had a problem since & the sound from these heads are awsome, Just a note: i have rack mounted my head & run a tc electronics g major through the effects loop & that sounds pretty cool, for some reason it also doubles the output of the amp even when the tc is in bypass mode ???? i dont understand why this happens but it's a real bonus & gives so much headroom it's unbelievable, Hope this helps Allan.

  15.
There was a really nice Smith 5 in the Gallery recently priced at £1,700. It was listed as a full on BSR5 EG model whis is pretty much top of the range. If it was genuinely an EG model than £1,700 was pretty cheap. Unsurprisingly when I called back a couple of days later to enquire further about it I discovered it was already sold. Really nice to play & I loved the cutting tone it had. Wasn't 100% sure I could use that sound live but didn't get enough time to see how flexible the potential sounds were.
Yes i saw that one & phoned them only to find out it was sold i'm realy after a 6 string but i think i may have bought that one it looked lovely, Oh well my search (research continues)
  16. I'm thinking about looking around for a ken smith through neck 6 string in the next couple of months & was wondering if any one on here knows anything about them i.e. how much i'd expect to pay for a used one roughly & any other info such as tonal capability's & where i could possibly find one ?? Any help would be much appreciated Allan.
  17. Hi oliver, That wal is lovely, if it was the 6 string you were selling i would be on your door step within minutes Good luck with the sale someone is going to get an awsome wal Allan.
  18. I'm interested in the eb3l do you have any pics ?

My warwick thumb nt6 is off to the gallery (sei bass) tomorrow to have the fingerboard replaced for an ebony fretless one & will take two to three weeks so i will be using my daughters westfield thumb 5 srting copy that cost £149, tried it out through my trace rig & it sounds & play's awsome so i will be using it on a few gigs until i get my warwick back, i'll let you guy's know how it performs in a band situation
  20. Another piece of wal history, it's lovely i like the later headstock.
  21.
Don't think it's neck through - looks like a set neck. I've a Thunder One - a two coming - anyone gonna sell me a three?!
Have you seen this one, i had one myself years ago & thought it was amazing, i might even try for this one unless you want it then i'll leave it to you http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=019
  22. Was just wondering what the best filler would be to fill the slots after defretting a rosewood fingerboard?
  23.
You have to wait, surely, at least until you have some idea how long the Wal will be.
I am trying to hold out, i'm quite attached to my warwick
  24.
There are some really spectacular Wals on this thread. Mine is not such a looker, but it is very special to me. Bought it Feb 83 from the man himself, with money left me by my Grandad - folks expected me to buy a car but I knew what I wanted. It's mahogany core with elm facings. Cost me £600 for cash including case - still got the handwritten receipt. Thought of selling it when times were hard with a young family 15 years ago but my wife wouldn't let me - I still thank her for that. It's absolutely wonderful and now I'm looking for a fretted companion for it - it will be my 50th birthday present. Another Wal will be too pricey - what would you guys look at instead these days? I've never played a fiver but wouldn't mind having a go. There's a gorgeous looking Shuker single cut 5 on this site for £900 - seems a good deal?
I think it looks nice, there is something almost classical looking about a wal fretless, i'm in a dilema at the moment as i'm waiting for paul to get back to me about building a 6 string fretless wal & a guy switzerland who has a fretted wal six is interested in a deal for my 89 warwick thumb nt6 + £1100 witch i'm tempted to do but i'm really after a fretless so i might wait ??
