1. Lemmy the Movie is finally out on DVD! Amazon are doing it for £9.99 at the moment. Ordered mine and it's on the way, and it's apparently fantastic. It must be, it's Lemmy isn't it? Apologies if this has already been mentioned....!
2. Love the tone of stainless rounds on the P, so I can ignore the rumour.....and keep my strings AND my frets!
3. That's great to hear. Must be a scare story put out by Squier haters! I think it sounds fab with stainless steel's on them, and I'd rather stick to them. Looks like I will, as no-one has yet to say don't!
4. I read somewhere online about the frets on the Classic Vibe Squires. Don't know if this is true, but being the lower vintage style, stainless steel strings will just eat them up, and it'll need a re-fret within 12 months. This can't be right, surely (don't call me Shirley, etc....!) I know SS aren't great for Rics (always used Flats or Nickels on my 4003), but I'd have thought they be fine on the CV's, as I think my CV-P has come fitted with them! Any experiences?
5. I saw them live in '96 on the EMG tour (supported by Catatonia!) and Nicky played the Jazz throughout. They only played 'Faster' from THB, I felt a bit let-down! I used to own the 1st 2 albums, but was still totally blown away by THB. I remember to this day putting it on, just being thrilled about such music being made in my lifetime....a new release sounding this good! Just a shame what happened next, including all the records they've made since.....
6.
Another endorsement for OBBM. You could tow a truck with the speak cables I got from him and he is an absolute gent to deal with.
+1 from me too. Bought a guitar lead and speakon cable last Christmas. As has been said here, I also A/B'd against my old leads. The difference was astounding. 1 year on, leads all still working and sounding perfect. Buy and you will totally not regret - and great service too!
7.
P bass and James did the bass. i remember Nicky saying he only played the Ric and Thunderbirds live because they look cool. although he did use a white P bass for a lot of THB tour. you can hear the difference in bass playing on the records. the later stuff is Nicky. THB is one of my all time favourites. also that bass Nicky uses now is horrible
Interesting....I never knew that JDB played any bass on the records. Def could be a P bass on parts of the record...although I think riffs like 'Archives Of Pain' are totally Ric. Then again, all depends how things are mixed. I was always unsure about the bass sound on 'Kicker Conspiracy' by The Fall - sounds quite Ric-like. I actually had some e-mail correspondence with bassist Steve Hanley who confirmed it was his trusty Precision. But I'm sure tracks like 'Mausoleum' are Ric.
8. Experienced bassist looking for something new. 30's, and well gigged and recorded. I'm based in Tenterden, Kent. Close to the East Sussex border. Most styles considered, but please no metal! Check my out - myspace.com/imdthomson Please PM through here, or e-mail direct - [email protected] Look forward to hearing from you! Iain
9. Hope I've posted this in the right place. I'm not a Manics fan, but have always loved 'The Holy Bible'. I think it sounds like the work of another band! What I'd love to know is what bass(es?) Nicky Wire used on the recording? I've always assumed it was a Ric. But I heard some live stuff from Summer '94, which sounded fairly similar, and he was using a P to my surprise! He used a Jazz at the time - I think - as well. So any ideas on what he played on this magnificent record?
10. They are still selling the CV Squiers at the old price, with free postage. That's quite a good deal! Thomann's have them even slightly cheaper, also with the free delivery.
11. Just wondering how members store their basses. I normally tend to have a hard case for every one I've owned - just makes it easier for storage and portability. Always worries me about leaving things on stands - I heard years ago that strings last longer if not left in the open! I've always been concerned about leaving a bass flat on the floor without neck support that it won't help either.....hence I've always kept every one in a case! What about everyone else?
12. They seem pretty good. Thomann was good for drum bits, but I have read some terrible stuff online about their guitar distribution and service. Woddbrass prices are very competitive, and in some occasions, a good deal cheaper than the UK.
13. After a heads-up on BC, I checked out the Woodbrass.com site. Some good prices there....shipped from Europe with free postage over a certain amount. Has anybody here ordered from them? I bought some Drum stuff from Thomann in Germany some years back, and they were superb. Any experienced good/bad with Woodbrass?
14. Sorry, straight sale only, no trades. Thanks for asking though!
15. I looked at these a bit before Christmas, and they were about £589! http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-highway-1-p...lat-black/15844 That's quite a big jump.....pity wages aren't going up at the same rate......
16. I have decided to sell my 2010 Rickenbacker 4003. Colour is Mapleglow - being a recent Ric, it comes with the walnut wings on the headstock - it looks amazing in the flesh. Mapleglow is a constant colour in Ric production - this will always look good! The condition can only described as immaculate. No marks, blemishes or dents. Bass has the vintage tone selector. Bass has only left the house to be professionally set-up by Martin Sims at his Kent workshop. Aside from that, it has been re-strung with D'addaro Chromes (flatwounds). It's a January 2010 build, and has not been modified in any way at all. Pickup cover is present and correct, and the action after Martin's set-up is about as low as a Ric will go. It plays as good as it looks. Comes with unused Ric case, and un-opened polishing cloth (I used another to wipe down after play). Since I took these pictures, I did remove the little 'Made In America' sticker from the pickguard, and the 'vintage tone selector' one above the switch. Thought I'd better mention this, but I didn't want them leaving sticky marks if left on there too long! Price is £1400 - these are still going for £1700+ new - and this is a seriously amazing example, hardly played. Collection preferred - item is located in Tenterden, Kent. Courier is about £30 within the UK, and I am happy to send. Please PM for any more details, or telephone Iain - 0784 770 4422. I have sold on BC before, so please check my feedback as I am a genuine seller!
17. Probably like the rest of us, simply spending even more money on beer and crisps (and basses...!)
18. You know it's bad when the crisps go up.....and no doubt the beer!!
19. Anybody noticed how the prices of basses have shot up in the last few days? I know there was the VAT increase, but they seem to have gone up again across the board. Only noticed as last week I paid £289 for my CV P - by mid-last week they were around £296 with the VAT increase, but now everywhere is charging £319 for the range! Looked at some other sites, and all prices seem to have gone up on many basses.....happy new year??!!
20. That's great, I love JA and TMV. Like the comment beneath the pic, full marks to JA going for a bass that feels right, regardless of cost. He's a great bassist, so that's pretty cool if it's right for him too!
21. I was looking for a backup bass and looked for a HW-P...that was the budget. Plumped for a CV-P, and have been amazed. You can buy 2 CV basses for the price of a Highway....something I would seriously consider! CV has blown me away....I haven't played an H1, but for me, my CV is enough for what I do....and there's enough left in the budget for a CV Jazz.....!!!
22.
Forget the Squier, get one of these. it looks much more Rock'n'Roll.
That's great.....not another Squier? The Classic Vibe Spongebob? Perhaps I'll hold out for the Mr. Krabs version with the extra improved machine heads.......
23. I'm loving my CV-P - never thought I'd be so happy with it. Who'd have thought that in 2011, with the numerous bass manufacturers out there of many prices, hot topic on BC would be the new Squiers??? Bit like Skoda syndrome, isn't it?
24. Many thanks to all on my other post who helped me to go for a new CV P. Seeing as I only own Rickenbackers otherwise, I was a bit worried about going for a bass priced so differently.....! It arrived yesterday - and TBH, I'm blown away. My previous Precision experience was of the upgraded MIM's, which I really couldn't get on with. I found the MIM a bit too lightweight...it just felt quite unsubstantial and flimsy. What a difference - it actually feels light years ahead of the MIM. The build is excellent - factory set-up is also spot on. No wobbly bits or issues at all. Sound-wise, I'm amazed. Through my Markbass stuff, the tone is intense. What I really like is the whole JJ Burnel tone - in a couple of adjustments to amp settings, it was there. So a bass that costs 1/6 the price of a Ric - I didn't think I would like it so much. I know what I read on here about how good the CV range is, and it really is! Having a Squier headstock doesn't bother me at all when a bass is this good. Got to resist any more........at moment! I've taken a few shots - I know they're cloned, but as they say, no pic, no bass!
