1. DUE TO A CHANGE IN CIRCUMSTANCE, I'M SELLING MY LOVELY JAGUAR BASS. IT IS ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD. BARELY PLAYED, THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES, DENTS, OR ANY MARKS AT ALL. IT REALLY IS AS NEW. EVERYONE HERE WILL KNOW ABOUT THE JAG - ACTIVE, WITH LOADS OF SWITCHES THAT GIVE A HUGE ARRAY OF SOUNDS AND TONES. RED HOT RED IS A STRIKING COLOUR, THE ONLY JAG MANUFACTURED WITH A MATCHING HEADSTOCK. I'LL EVEN THROW IN A NEW AND UNUSED FENDER PADDED GIG BAG. I'M ONLY ASKING £500 FOR THIS - LOADS LESS THAN NEW PRICE! PLEASE CONTACT IAIN - [email protected] 0784 770 4422 LOCATED IN TENTERDEN, KENT.
2. I bought a bass in their sale, and their service was excellent. Ordered lunchtime Monday, arrived 9.30am Tuesday. The only thing I'd be aware of is their 'availability'. The green tick simply means available - it doesn't actually mean that it's in stock, just that they can actually get it. I found this when looking for my Markbass NY cab. Gave them a ring, and was told that it could take up to 3 weeks to get, even though the site said 'available'. Like what's been said above - good service, but always buy by phone just to be on the safe side.
3. Thanks for the help guys. I've now ordered a couple from Roqsolid - they're all black..... .....but I've opted for the yellow stitching to match the Markbass colours! Nice one!!
4. Does anyone know of where I can buy a couple of covers for my Markbass 121P combo and New York amp? I've seen some 'unbranded' stuff on e-bay, but you can never tell quite how good they are! Any thoughts on this? With all the Winter gigs booked, the chance of getting a soaking is becoming higher. Last time I wrapped the amp in a bin bag - not cool!! I don't think that Markbass make covers themselves...I've searched the net, but I must be missing where they are! Any help or suggestions appreciated.
5. Are the changes on all the new sunburst colour models with immediate effect? Any other upgrades? I've got one in black and I luuurrrve it!
6. From what I have read on the 'net, there seemed to be concern about Fender not importing the Jag to the US anymore from Japan, but this seems to be a lot of rumour. I had a check on Fender.com, and there's no sign of that at all. In fact, their Jag section is better the the co.uk site, with some players pics that use them as well! - http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0259505506 They seem to have a quite a following on 'another' bass forum....which is nice! :brow:
7.
I've always thought of Adamson as the "Post punk Squire", which I'm sure he'd hate me for!
Anyone for 'Correct Tales Of Topographic Soap'?
8.
When I saw Magazine in Manchester earlier this year his bass sound was bloody awful until he changed from his Jaguar to his Ovation Magnum. Awesome player though - one of my favourites.
That's surprising about his tone, as I've been gigging mine pretty regular of late, and it cuts through with a great sound, using both active and passive modes. As for the scrapping of the model, it's only rumour....and it's still on the Fender site. Don't know about the production move to Mexico, though? As for Mr. Adamson...totally agree - I think he's one of those players under the radar. I've not seen the reformed Magazine - too young first time round, but been listening since about '93. His basslines got me hooked! On an aside, anyone know what bass he used on record? I've seen pictures with a Ric 4001S with modified pups, but I really don't know what he used on LP. I was actually jamming with 'The Correct Use Of Soap' yesterday - what a record!
9. I read on Talk Bass the other day that Fender are discontinuing the Jag. If it is such a good seller, surely this can't be the case? Elsewhere it mentioned transferring production to Mexico, but this is unconfirmed. Anybody else heard anything on this?
10. I have started to notice some 'name' players using the marvelous Jaguar bass. Here's a shot of the excellent Barry Adamson (former Ric man like myself) from Magazine last month - http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?...mageID=24091907 I also saw a My Chemical Romance video yesterday (don't know the band that well or the song), but the bassist had one too. Got tipped off about a Radiohead webcam thingy where their guy was playing a Jag. Any other recent Jag sightings? I'd love to know of any examples on record? I read somewhere that it's the best selling Fender bass aside from the P's and J's. Don't know if this is true, but I certainly can't put mine down!
11.
Sorry for the late reply on this! Well in my opinion Sadowsky's dont do the true passive Fender tone! They have their own sound thats inspired by Fender but with a modern twist! This weekend my GAS for fender has gone into overload!!!! argh!! anyone got any ideas?? lol
I'm a newbie to Fender - always wrote them off in the past as being a bit dull (if I'm honest). However, I have acquired this year a Geddy Lee Jazz and a hot red Jaguar - quite simply the best basses I think I've played, and both under £650! I can't stop gigging the Jag - the versatility and playability is awesome - and it looks like the dogs dangly bits!!
12. Rickenbacker 4003 necks actually vary from year to year. Some are slimmer, others are like baseball bats. However, you'll never ever find a Ric neck as slim as a jazz. If you have got small hands, I'd go for a Geddy as well. I'm a Ric 4004 man (bassball), but tend to use the Ged a lot for gigs. Also, consider the Fender Jaguar. I've just got one, and it's superb - and a thin neck.
13. I love my classics - jazz and now a Jaguar! The 'newest' bass I own, shape-wise is a Rickenbacker 4004. Actually, the body shape is pretty much the same as the 4003, pups look like a 4002, but the fancy new colours give them a new look!
14. Thanks guys! I'll get reading......
15. I've got some already, but they are very large, on a piece of string, and look like bits of cheese coming from my ears! Has anybody got any thoughts and suggestions on some better ones, and where to buy? I'd prefer some 'flush' ones, and naturally, it would be nice to hear what's going on as well, but taking out the frequencies that could well send us all deaf! Please shout loudly amongst yourselves.....!
16. Sorry, now sold on E-bay!
17. I'm over the moon with my new Fender Jag - in red! Sounds fab, variety of tones, played great straight from the box. My question is - the active mode. I'm aware that other basses have this option as well - but when do most people use it? As soon as I select it, my Markbass speaker seems to be poundng and working overtime, even at practice levels! - but it does sound great! I've got a gig next week, and I'm a little reluctant to use the setting as it may well shake the venue into tiny pieces! Do most people with an active option find the right level and gig with it? Or just stick with the passive? Or is there even an answer to this??!!
18. Thanks for all that - I'll get 'creating' again with the controls! The Jag has really impressed me - it looks a million dollars and then some, and yesterday I pumped it through my Markbass set-up - OMG!
19. Once again, thanks for that. Good to know, don't want to cut out in the middle of a gig! Any other advice on tones, etc, would be great. There seems to be a mass of options! I did hear that you can achieve a nice precision-esque tone - what settings would I need for that? Pre amp, etc. I've been doing some experimenting, and already discovered some really nice sounds which I'll be gigging with ASAP!!
20. Thanks for that! Do you get any warning if the battery is getting low? Or does it just die on you??
21. I've just got myself a Jaguar in Red - the colour I've always wanted! As a former - and still slight - Rickenbacker nut, I'm amazed at the 'out of the box' quality and growl of the Japanese Fenders have. I never had Ric without issues. The Jag sounds awesome, plays great, and what a price for it! You can get a real 4003 type-sound (obviously with the Jag twist) - and I've had some to compare it to! Question is, how long does the battery normally last? With the pre-amp off, does it still soak the juice, or is it only taken when the option is switched on? I was just trying to gain an idea if players keep a spare for gigging - ie if you use the pre-amp all the time, how is the battery use, and do you get any warning signs when you are getting low? Any other Jag advice on sound, how to achieve certain tones, etc., gladly received. I can see why some pro's use these, they are so versatile, and look amazing!
22. Thanks guys. I've ordered the cab, and the right leads to go with it!
23. Hopefully this is also okay to ask here..... but as an extension cab newbie.... What cables do I need to connect the two Markbass 121's - P and New York cab? I've done a bit on a search, and got very confused! I don't want to damage anything, so before I take the plunge..... What do I need, and best place to buy??
24. Looking at getting another hardcase as the basses I've just sold had their own! I've got a rubbishy e-bay one for home storage, but need a better one for the gigs. I'm only taking myself, but the gear does sometimes get chucked in the singers van. I've read good stuff about the Hiscox stuff - the one I've seen is about £65. Question is, I need it for a Jazz.....and maybe a Jaguar. That's what I've been tempted by - I assume they will independently fit, being of similar size? Just wanted to check before I try to broker a deal!
25. Thanks all. Looks like the extra cab really is the only way to get more power!!
