New Fender MIM Player series replaces Standard
spongebob replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in Bass Guitars
Some of the new finishes look nicer than the the 'Pro' range! I saw one over on TB, a new limited edition MIM that was (I think) Ocean Turquoise/Tort. It looked the dogs' danglies! 😍 -
Bassists you like who aren't your normal cuppa char
spongebob replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I'm not a slap fan at all, but I've always got time for Mark King. Tasty player, bass out front, definitely done a lot for the instrument. Comes across as a nice guy too. -
Quick update - seems to have stuck after all! Well done UHU!
-
I've got some D'addario NYXL's coming today. Can't report yet, but by all accounts they're billed as a longer lasting round. Going to stick them on a Geddy Jazz, looking forward to getting these on.

Sold Andy some P-bass chrome bits. Super to deal with, instant payment, great comms. True BC'er. Many thanks Andy, looks great on your P! 😀

I personally wouldn't buy any gear that I wouldn't gig. They're all tools for the job. My gear is good, maybe very good (GAS related), but nothing that I would not bother with if I couldn't take out in public. I aim to have one of each - bass, amp, cab. All very good, rather than a number of cheapies, but all giggable.

My word. A Love Supreme with slap bass. Words can't describe how queasy I feel right now.

Sold Bruno a set of flats after he missed out on the first pack! Brilliant to deal with, instant payment and great comms. Nice one Bruno, many thanks! 😀

Did your band improve AFTER a player left?
spongebob replied to Arrowsmith's topic in General Discussion
Yes! In my experience, it's always been drummer related. With a better drummer, I also find that my own playing usually improves too. Weak link in any band brings everybody down. -
I've held (my) fire until now....!

Strings Direct, Amazon, any decent online retailer. Shame, but used to use SB all the time....not any more.

Love myself a bit of Rush, and noticed the DVD is going for about £14 now. Enjoyed the 'Beyond The Lighted Stage' DVD, so was pondering this. Anybody seen it? Worth a watch?

Mark kindly purchased a new set of Flats from me. Instant payment, and great comms throughout. Super chap to deal with - thanks again Mark! 😃

I've stuck some UHU all over it for now, and it's currently weighed down sticking.....hopefully! Says it is suitable for polystyrene and plastic, so I'll take a look later... ....before I look at bringing in the heavy artillery! 🔫 EDIT - Don't think it's stuck too well yet....will give it overnight...

The spray adhesive is quite expensive for a small repair....would an all-round UHU do the job? Says it works on most surfaces?
-
Haven't got one of those....looking for a tube of something suitable!

The 'plush' interior (top side) of one of my Fender hard cases is coming away, so needs a bit of glue to stick it back. Any suggestions of the best adhesive to use? There's an array of choices, not sure what would work best. Thoughts?

I know a guitarist who hates (she says) anything from the 70s. She's pushing 50. However, although hating -'the 70s', she plays in a punk band! Somehow that musical point missed her along the way....

playing with a pick is faster - fact or fiction?
spongebob replied to lowdowner's topic in General Discussion
Pick for me. I've been working on my fingerstyle a fair bit recently, but when I get with the band, I always revert to the pick - just seems to get a tone that sits better in the mix. Faster? I'd say. I'm a bit of an over-player anyway, and have regularly been asked if I'm being paid by the note! I'd attribute a part of that to the pick, as the up and down strokes allow me to play as such. Saying that, Jaco played more than me with fingers....!😀 -
SOLD!

These are the best flats I've ever played, can't say enough good things about them. Only asking £18, UK postage included. Payment by PayPal 'gift' or bank transfer please. PM with any interest, and thanks for looking! SB 😃

I'll never understand quite how that whole saga played out. For numerous others, that would have been career over.
-
Had both - IMHO, it was the Flea which won the day. Mine wore Fender flats, a great combo on there. Ditto what has been said above - it really growls, Perhaps one of the jazziest Jazz basses I've played. Not a light growl like a Geddy, but a dark, low snarl on mine. I would have kept it, but the fake relic thing doesn't really work for me. Took me a couple of purchases to work that out, though! It was so nice, that I even recently considered another.....excellent basses, and for me, better than the standard Roadworn.

Ian Hunter bassist Paul Page on playing a Jaco P solo
spongebob replied to madshadows's topic in General Discussion
Nice one, thanks for posting. Myself and Mr. Page are now Twitter buddies as well! -
I've always thought the Roger comes across well. By all accounts a very nice guy, and extremely down to earth. Amazing career, and does some extremely important charity work. Recently gave his time to open a new cafe at the end of the railway near here. ....and that's before you get to the list of songs performed , and brilliant vocals recorded with The Who. At least his point has got people talking about rock....even if the consensus is that he wasn't that far off. Incidentally, I love The Who By Numbers, 4 years after the...ahem...peak!
