Maybe they'll release a few more....maybe one of their mid-70s gigs. The bonus live tracks on the '.....By Numbers' are superb. That version of 'Dreaming From The Waist' is a bass tour-de-force

Had a reminder on Twitter yesterday that this is coming in April - https://www.thewho.com/live-fillmore-east-1968/ Must say, I'm looking forward to this one. For years, I kind of overlooked The Who. Guess I saw a few of the post-Moon gigs on TV, so I never really 'got' them. Appreciated some of what I'd heard, but a bit on the fence, really. Few months back, I decided to give their back catalogue a good listen, and I'll admit, I've been mightily impressed. What a great albums band.....even if they should have called it quits when Moon left us... They've been described as a band of soloists, and I can see that. Some of the live stuff is the sound of 4 individuals breaking out over the same song, right through! As a 'busy' player, I've developed a new admiration for The Ox. That 'Frankenstein' tone is amazing. I was listening to a live set the other day (from about '69) in which they played 'Tommy' right through - 4 piece, no overdubs or triggers. Unbelievable today, and all the better for it IMHO.

I think it's easy to get carried away with how they reinvent the wheel. If you think, in bass terms, how simple the P and J bass is. I wouldn't have thought that precious metal for the tuners and exotic wood fretboards were part of the original designs! It's taken me years and lots of wasted money to realise that the difference is minimal that these changes make. Not minimal to the pocket though!

I'm with the OP. Did the same thing myself a few weeks back, feel better for it as I too wasn't happy. Good luck in your band search. I've not jumped back in yet....I had a fruitful conversation with a possible, but I'm still 50/50, as my heart doesn't seem to be in it.

True. Few years back I had a couple of Geddy's at different times - first the MIJ, later the MIM (both came with the BA2 bridges). I fully agree - the MIM was a far better instrument, it played and sounded amazingly well. Like an idiot, I sold it.....every time I see some photos of me gigging it, I regret it all over again!

In the past, more than now.....! At present, about £1200...one bass, one amp, one cab. No desire to add anything....if I could scale down further, I would.....but size-wise, it's got to fit in the car when needed!

.....and mutual best wishes from the Romney Marsh!

Just sold Tim an SG bass. It's his first transaction on BC - but rest assured, he's a fully-fledged BC'er already! Instant payment, great comms.....Tim's a great man to deal with, and I'm sure our sale will be the first of many. Nice one Tim, pleasure.

Sold Justin a new Fender short scale gig bag. Fully concur with all the comments above - instant payment, excellent comms - a first-class transaction. Good to deal with a BC'er with whom I share a little history as well! Thanks again Justin, hope we talk again soon.

This is an interesting thread for me at the moment. Having just quit my band of 6 years, I've lost all desire to play. Still listening to a bit of music everyday, but only picking up a bass for about 30 minutes a week, and that's if I'm lucky, or simply bothered. I simply don't have any desire to play, let alone join bands. I just feel like I've got as good as I ever will, and done with the instrument what I'm capable of. I've decided to give it 3 months. I'f by then I'm in the same mindset, then I guess I'll accept it, and realise that it's time to move on....then they'll be a bumper sale of stuff on here! ...or like the OP, pick up a uke!

Gibson SG Bass - 120th Anniversary Model - Limited Brown Satin Finish. With original Gibson hardcase. Immaculate example - one of the satin finish models. Original 3-point bridge replaced with Hipshot Supertone. There isn't any real wear on the bass - only thing is on the 'rub' points, the finish is a little shinier from use (neck, forearm). Besides that, a few small marks only visible under light. I'm being picky here - it's an amazing looking and playing example. I bought it last year as a an unused example, and had the work carried out. Fully set up with D'addario Chromes. All work carried out by James Collins, of 12th Fret, a Gibson approved repair specialist. These short scale (30.5") inch basses are amazing. This is the 2nd I have owned. The bridge alone is around £120, and the fitting and set-up considerable more. Strings nearly £40. Only selling, as I have got my eyes on something else that has come up on BC! Have seen others come up here, but none as good as this with the upgrades. The new 2018 models are coming in at £1200! Looking for £695 £625 I'm down in the Romney Marsh in Kent, collection preferred, but I'll post for free if required. I'd need a couple of days to acquire a box if that's okay! Payment by PayPal or Bank Transfer. Thanks for looking! SB

Nearly 50 years on, and that line-up is still awesome, and a real mix. No figure for one of my faves, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. I know some artists didn't want their Woodstock sets released (Grateful Dead, CCR, maybe more), but the BBB set is available, and it's awesome (as they were).....and I believe they took the stage at about 6am on the final morning!

The Gibson bass 'limited edition' runs were announced last year, and started to be stocked in the US in November. I was wanting a new Cherry SG bass, and paid a deposit at the time to secure one, and was told they'd be in the UK in around 4-6 weeks. Nearly 4 months on, there's still no sign of any of them. Still stocked in the US, nothing over here . I've now cancelled my pre-order (partially because of my musical circumstanced, mainly because of a still never-ending wait). How hard can it be to ship over here? How many others will cancel in frustration? According to the place I ordered from, I was one of the first to order, but the bass hasn't even been made yet! 4 months in - these aren't bespoke luthier creations, are they? Still, I do still GAS at at a Thunderbird - one day maybe. But not new - the 2018's are nearly 2k - and the chances of them making some for over here......!

In a previous band, we had a drummer whose timekeeping was similar to the examples above - every rehearsal, at least 1/2 an hour late. As said band was having problems, a 'band summit' was arranged to discuss said issues, including the drummers lateness. In comic fashion, he then turned in more than 1/2 an hour late for the meeting, and then went on to take notes and agree it was an issue. I left that one not long afterwards.....!

Our gigs has gone right down over the last couple of years. This year's was looking to be the worst yet. Material, venues, a whole load of things. I've felt more pressure recently at gigs to check my car wasn't being vandalised, which has happened before. The gig before last, the police were outside on 2 occasions before we even started. This ceases to become fun.

I'm doing another gig as a final one, the a friend of the BL's (whose depped for me before) will cover the remaining bookings. I think that's the end of the band, anyway. As I mentioned, I felt that it's been on the slide for a while....and my leaving has confirmed it, given that I won't be replaced, and the rest of the gigs will just get covered.
