Bands / artists with songs about other bands / artists

True! ....and can I also add (Sheena's In Love With) Joey Ramoney by Helen Love! In fact, a whole load of HL tracks reference The Ramones, and other bands as well. -
This thread has led me to Spotifying Sandinista! which I'd never heard before. I kind of expected to not be into it from what I've read. Bloody excellent! It's the first album I've played for a while that my wife actually likes as well

Glad to hear you both like it. All the Albums are great, except the very last one
It's a classic - can't imagine it being made today. 6 sides....agreed, not every track is 100% essential, but I love the way how it flows as a body of work. Superb sounding album, as well. My fave Clash album. -

Sad to hear about Martin. I met him a while back at The Six Bells in Woodchurch where we we're playing. Actually came across to introduce himself between sets, and had a bit of a chat as our singer knew him a little as well. He was ill, but in incredible spirit - in fact, we remarked afterwards how strong he was, compared to how we would be given such a diagnosis. A sad loss indeed. -

It's good....but I've always preferred 'Sandanista' myself. I know the NWR played on 'The Magnificent Seven' on the album. -
Deep Purple when the great Tommy Bolin was a member, 'Come Taste The Band' has always been an album I adore. Miles Davis with Dave Holland. Mahavishnu Orchestra. That's me all out!
I'm a staunch Fender fan but this "upgrade" is poor in my opinion. Plus, why get rid of the tortoiseshell on the white and sunburst models?

Yep stupid, looks like the old Méx version now on the 3tsb.
+10000! Those white pickguards simply cheapen the look.....why, oh why would they put those on, and up the price? I think the Olive is nice, though.
I think the only way to get that colour now is the Pino. Over 13 times the price you paid for your Squier!
Wonder if it's 13 times as good?!

Jeez, I bought a red CV P-bass new in December 2010 - it was around £280! Lovely bass, should have kept it. Remember it had a very nice feel, and I actually gigged it a few weeks after buying it. Super colour (especially with the tort) - should be available as a part of the new American Pro series!

Having lived with vinyl and then CD's, I'll be sticking with a quality bluetooth speaker, tablet, and Google Play subscription. Personally, I'm not nostalgic for vinyl at all. Months/years spent in grimy record fairs looking for 'that' album - now it's there in it's entirety at the click of a mouse. Search takes as long as it takes me to type it. ....and I don't have to haggle with some strange-smelling bloke with a unkempt beard to get it, either!

Does this mean, for a small pub gig, the same as just going direct through the PA? I don't know a lot about going 'ampless' - although I did read somewhere about a player just carrying a bass and a Sansamp pre-amp?

Big fan here. Love dub. In fact, love most Jamaican music up until the Dancehall era....kind of lost me since then.
white chocolate Toblerone for 90p...killer!!
One of the new reduced-sized ones?

Browsing in a branch of Poundland today *insert joke here* (!) and noticed a couple of bargain music books. I bought a copy of DJ Dave Fanning's autobiography - and they were also selling Stuart Copeland's as well. Not sure if all branches carry similar stock, but well worth checking out if you're near one.

As new, white/black piping pickguard taken from my new American Standard P-bass. I've moved to the dark side (ie black), so this is surplus to my requirements. It would look great on other colour Precisions - you can buy the aftermarket-cheapies, but this is a fully 100% genuine US 'guard, and as such, excellent quality and durability. Only asking for £15, free UK postage. Payment by Paypal, 'gift' please. Please check my feedback, you will not be disappointed. Please PM me for details, and thanks for looking! SB

I think I'm in the BC minority here - I've always put REM in my top most disliked bands..sorry! Stipe's vocals have always really grated me....I'm sure he's a very nice chap, though.....and Mike Mills started out on a 4001.... So not all bad, then!
I also love the fender flats, I'm going to keep rounds on my P, are the Fender rounds any good ? What are the stock strings on it at the moment ? I've only ever used Roto rounds (on my Jazz Bass Special because it's the law that you have to use those strings on that bass) an they would be horrible on the Flea
Fitted some Fender nickel rounds to my 4001 as planned yesterday. They sound great, very impressed as I am with their flats. Very well priced, too.

Can't Fender US start making more inventive shades? That looks awesome!
I rather like these, work well on both Rick and Fender, not too taught, not too loose, well, for me anyway http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Yes! Yes! Yes! Only flats I've ever bonded with. 9050L for me, super feel. So good, I've bought a set of 7250ML nickels for the Ricky - which I've the same flats on for a year. Have a change, may change back! If they sound great on an old 4001, I'm sure they'll be killer on a Flea.

Black PG ordered from Thomann. Guess I've always lusted after the B/M/B combo...the Jean Jacques Burnel thing. Thanks to Lozz for the Thomann tip and PG offer...nice one!
I agree that Jazz basses are more versatile, but (and this is a serious question) when do you actually get to use the sounds it is capable of? I've never played slap in my life (been playing over 40 years) and I can't imagine a situation in a gigging pub & club band where the rear pickup 'Jaco' sound would be of any use.
I enjoyed this point. I've had the same thing in the past - a bass that can do a lot, but only use a little. I kept dialling in P bass type-tone when I had a Jazz, or I had trouble cutting through a full band. Great for big bands with big rigs and racks of pre-amps. I play my Ricky with one tone in mind (not necessarily the one everyone thinks), I don't change it from song to song. Same with any bass - they may do a lot, but when I'm gigging, it's me playing, I'm not trying to re-create anything. I can't think of a reason to - most players I hear have their live tone, and don't adjust it song-to-song.
