1.
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall while you were thinking that one up!

I'm thunderstruck anyone noticed. Let's get it up front, I had some hard times with that pun.
I'm guessing that on the ticket prices that 'Moneytalks'!
2. I'll definitely give that a listen. I remember a colleague of mine a while back, when replying to my answer of what instrument I play, said 'I don't like bass, it doesn't really do anything'! TBH, I couldn't summon the energy to reply, or even attempt to change his mind.....
3. I wouldn't. My Ricky has a little bit of 'prestige' - it was owned and played by the bassist of an early 80's indie band, the bass appeared on their 2 singles, Peel Session, and also was on 'The Tube'! It doesn't add to the value (obviously), but it's a nice story to tell. He certainly hadn't looked after it - and after a bit of work, I make sure it sees regular live action.
4. Did it once. Got stung massively by customs and courier charges, way over what was quoted/expected. Never again!
5. I picked up an SG bass some months back, really nice bass. Bought it on the basis of the looks, TBH - Jack Bruce, Phil Lesh, Andy Fraser.... Can't believe they're about to start production on a (IMHO) new and hideous variant of the EB, and yet ceased production on what is one of their most iconic shapes. No wonder they don't sell many basses!
6. I was undoing the plastic straps on a new lead last year. Wasn't paying attention, and as well as cutting the plastic, left my a fretting finger in the way...and cut into that as well! This was 2 hours before a gig, the first of 2 that weekend. Needless to say, a supply of plasters, as I was good(ish) to go. Lesson learnt!
7. We tend to play within about an hour and a half's radius, so about 50/60 miles each way is my longest on average. It's not something I really think about. We play in what I would call a sensible distance - enough to play around to get the gigs, but not going mad and travelling hours for nothing! Our furthest gigs tend to be our best, just the locations are better for bands. So as has been said, for us, they are well worth the journey, .....plus I enjoy it!
8.
Is that definitely a Ric? I had him down as a Fender Jazz guy, but then I haven't listened to much outside his work with Miles Davis.
It's been used as example of an unusually un-Ric tone on the odd fan site...so AFAIK!
9. Some very good points here. On my '74 4001, I don't sound like Lem, Squire, or Ged....I just sound like me. I realised through many expensive errors that you can't duplicate or become someone else.....and with Rics, it sooo true as many want 'the' tone - but has been discussed, there are multiples of it! Here's another - Michael Henderson on bass, Ricky 4001 with flats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPrIN4QSirs
10. Scary stuff! If you crash, even at a low speed, that lot is going to fly forward at an alarming rate! 'Elf and safety......
11. Motorhead. Still love 'em to bits now. Many bands have come and gone since being 16, but Motorhead stayed the course with me.
12. Never carried a spare bass. Don't drive to the gig with a spare car, either!
13. I've just finished the JB book, 'Composing Himself'. A great read, and certainly filled the gaps on my knowledge of his post-Cream career, of much I was unaware of his multiple projects. He did so much, just never hit that one thing again that could eclipse the popularity of Cream. A shame, as his solo work contains some superb stuff. Fascinating read. I'd recommend listening to 'Spirit', the 3-CD BBC sessions album alongside - an education in bass playing. I still like his EB3 tone the best, though!
14. I've just ordered a personal plate. Had one some years back, but in a moment of crisis, let it go with the car it was on. Plate has long since gone. Been after one for a while, and have found one I really like at a good price. It's my initials (yes, I am that kind of guy!) but also incorporates an N - the registration letter that was in my YOB, and the number 11, which (good and bad) always looms largely in my life. It's fate, and it's mine!
15. Great work on 'Return To Fantasy' by Uriah Heep. Always loved that album for some reason - 'Shady Lady' has got some great little runs in it. ....and he left them to join Roxy Music - can be heard on some of the tracks on their live album. Real nice crunchy tone on there too. For KC, my own preference is 'Red' (amazing) and the live album, 'USA'. In fact, any of it with JW on!
16. Bought the 'Ping Pong' single and the 'Emperor Tomato Ketchup' album way back. Never investigated further - maybe I should! Album was on some bright glitter vinyl. Purchased it used for under a fiver, eBay'd it some years later for around £40 to a chap in Canada.
17. Sleater-Kinney. Amazing band - I saw them before their 'hiatus' in about 2003, and live, it sounded as full as any other band I've experienced.
18.
Not Ron Wood??
Or Woody from the Bay City Rollers....!
19. Reminds me of that ZZ Top song - 'Woke Up With Wood'!
20. Great to see a new Fender that isn't a P or J. Do like the look of these - nice score - enjoy!
21.
"People used to look at me like I was crazy!" and now they only look 'cos of the new weird hairdo...
That was I thought, too! Good shout!
22. I'm really keen to see Stanley Clarke's hair now. I know he's a bass genius, but show us the barnet!
23. I think it looks terrible, local pub band with stands. Why on earth would you need a reference point for 'Mustang Sally'?
24. Sold Steve a truss rod tool for his US bass....! What can I add? True gents to deal with - instant payment, friendly comms...a credit to BC. Thanks again Steve!
