Up for grabs is my (watched once) copy of Jaco - The Film on Blu Ray. It's a 2-disc set - disc 1 is the film, disc 2 is the extended interviews and extras. Condition is mint. I've literally just watched it the once, and it's back in the cupboard ever since! It's a great watch, I'm just not a DVD collector, so rather than it gather dust, I'd rather it went to a new home. Price is £15, free UK postage. Will be sent the day after payment. Payment by Paypal, marked as 'gift' please. Check my Feedback for satisfaction...! Thanks for looking, shoot me a PM with your interest! SB
I know Fender QC is awful at the best of time, but surely a signature series bass of the price point could not simply come out of the factor looking aesthetically entirely different in error??? This^^^
Yes, except my interest in cars... probably both about level.

Been a Beefheart fan for years, but I too have only recently started my FZ journey (solo, heard some Mothers' stuff before) - our outgoing drummer is a Zappa nut! He started me with 'Apostrophe' and 'Over-Nite Sensation'. Both really good. Tried 'Just Another Band From LA' - found that very hard going! 'Studio Tan' a bit easier. It's certainly a journey. I'm watching this thread with interest, and I'll be checking out the suggestions so far!

Up for grabs is a truss rod tool/wrench (1/4") that is suitable for the truss rods on a Rickenbacker bass. I bought this last year, as I (briefly) experimented with a 4003S. Wasn't for me, and I went scuttling back to my old 4001! You may be aware that due to the truss rod position, not all of these rods will fit as the walls of the tool are quite thick, and the Ricky cavities vary. No problem with this one - I had my local shoemender grind them down a little, so it fitted my 'S' like a glove. So deep or narrow, this tool will do the job for your Ricky. Google this, it happens quite a lot! Used once, then in the wardrobe for the last year. Cost £20 new (with postage on top) - I'll take £13.50, and I'll post in the UK for free. Payment by Paypal, marked as 'gift' please. Thanks for looking, and PM for interest! SB *Please note - I have checked with the mods that it is okay to list this item, as it is for, but in no way made by or affiliated with Rickenbacker themselves*.

1 brand new, and totally unopened set of Rotosound 66 stainless steel bass strings, 40-95 gauge. Great strings, I've been using another set (bought these as a backup), but I'm going back to flatland, so these are now surplus to requirements. Only asking £12 for these, free postage in the UK. I'll now throw in a very slightly used set, only a couple of hours, of the same gauge. No price rise. Payment by Paypal 'gift' please. Please PM if interested! Thanks for looking, SB!

I've always found that playing with bad bands results in my playing badly, even if you're better, it'll rub off. I'd personally move on to something you're happier with. Once the idea's crossed your mind, that's it....and you're probably already 50% out the door!

Listening again to the chorus of 'Respectable Street' - that bass part is pure genius how it weaves around. Superb choice of notes, Colin!

I love the look of those!

+1 on this thread - especially the bass levels on 'Later'....been a moan of mine for years. Only time I spotted any recently was during Dinosaur Jr.'s excellent spot - could actually hear some mid-rangy growl from Lou Barlow's Gibson Ripper or Grabber (I'm not sure which one's which!)

Looks like a Fender is the choice....only choice!

Gibson at Thomann*INTERESTING UPDATE*/Bargains to be had...

I've pulled the trigger on an SG bass - still very cheap at the mo. -
I'm going to be soon on the hunt for a short-scale gig bag - incoming NBD featuring my first ever SS (strings already ordered!). Does come with a hardcase, but need a GB for easier transportation. All I've managed to find so far is the Fender one. I've been doing a lot of searching, but am struggling to find any other ones on the market. So I though I'd ask here - any thoughts? What do you other shorty players carry yours in?

Survey to see what age range has opted to use lightweight (or NOT) gear.
spongebob replied to largo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Big yes from me. Quite a long-term lightweight user as well. Had my first Trace combo for some years, just weighed a ton. Had a break from playing, and..... Went for the Markbass stuff some years back when I first read about it - not big on the tone, but for me it was weight first. Sold those for a change to the Fender Rumble range early last year. Absolutely love these, the tone is just what I've always wanted. Recently sold the 500 combo, and went with a 112 cab and 500 head. Already have a 115 cab, so the rig is sorted. -

Cool! I've been listening to a bit of 'Live Cream' this week as well - Jack Bruce's Gibson bass tone is just huge. ....and I'm sure Phil Lesh played in the early days of the Grateful Dead as well. I'm not helping myself here...... -

Why do I always have really bad GAS for an SG bass? I've never played short scale, or a Gibbo, but I seriously love the look of those. Doesn't mention a hardcase? Maybe it's seeing some footage of Andy Fraser from Free years back....sure he played one? -
Definitely have a go on a Ric before taking the plunge... they are VERY different in both tone and playability to pretty much everything else.
This ^^^^^ I love my Rics, and for me they are the bass. 4001 for me rather than the '03. However, I have lost count of the times I've read on bass forums about players buying one, and selling it soon after because of....well, you name it. Tone, feel, ergonomics.... I personally find them exceptionally comfortable. However, if you're used to Fender-style contours and curving, proceed with caution! I've owned a good number over my playing span. Some good, some exceptional, some less so. Never a bad one, just some less....QC'd than others! Good luck with the journey. Love it or hate it, why not try it?

The only bass I actually have GAS for is the JC sig bass. Love JC, love the bass!
