I saw Letz Zep last night at a festival in Dover
spongebob replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
Their old drummer was my drum tutor - 30 years ago! -
When I had a 4001 put a Hipshot on, which makes palm muting way easier. Saying that the Hipshot is not perfect as the saddles can move.
Did you sell your lovely Azureglo 4001? Fine looking bass.

You can replace the bridge with a Hipshot - direct replacement - no mute or bits sticking out. Makes muting very easy. Just beware the wobbly saddles.....!

Anyone bought a new bass and found their fretting hand aches?
spongebob replied to Lozz196's topic in Bass Guitars
I was, but mentally I just can`t get away from having a US. Plus the sound your 2014 made on that sound-clip didn`t help - one of the nicest Precision tones I`ve heard in a long time. Got me thinking about a current US that did. Very interesting read regarding streaming services.
spongebob replied to ambient's topic in General Discussion
I've been streaming for over a year, and have no problem paying the £10 a month. As a music fan, it's an absolute dream. I've discovered a good few artists and albums through it - stuff that's recommended and similar. Our band has stuff available, and the royalty rate is small - but at least we can be heard! Fair for the established artists? I've spent 30 years paying out a tenner a time for records, that on quite a few occasions, should have been used as landfill. At least now they're only getting paid for what I actually listen to. The music industry/business, IMHO, is in decline. Mainly to do with the lack of decent new music - especially in the face of 'the past'. Even 20 years ago, so many old albums were out of print - now they're available at the click of a mouse, where everyone has access to the world's record collection. It's just things moving on. I've just read that Neil Young has pulled his output from streaming services - it's still on Google All Access at the moment. Like any format, if you get the right gear it sounds fab. My Bluetooth speaker was around £600. A lot? Not compared to a lot of other hi-fi gear. One speaker does it all! -
Anyone bought a new bass and found their fretting hand aches?
spongebob replied to Lozz196's topic in Bass Guitars
I thought you were sticking to the MIM's Lozz, LOL!! I think a bigger neck you can adjust to. A smaller one, IMHO, is worse. I bought and sold a Road Worn Jazz in record time as the neck was giving me serious finger ache. I was getting woken in the night with it! My US P is a 2014, and it's one of the comfiest necks I've ever played. So comfy in fact, that I couldn't bear to part with it! -
If you could have been in one band in the last 15 years.....
spongebob replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
Last 15 years? Tough one! I think I'd go for Warpaint, or The Donnas (for an easier time, but great songs on the first 4 albums). -
I didn't know FQ was still going! Looking at that, he isn't, really!

Great to hear some positive 'star' stories for a change! Slade always come across as genuine and likeable, so it's nice to hear it's true. On a side note, I met Gerry Marsden (from the Pacemakers) years ago, and he was so down to earth and friendly, it was unbelievable. Had time for everybody.

I was growing up in the 80s, and detested most of the 'pop' that was around at the time. If only we'd experienced the 00s beforehand, then the 80s would have seemed like a musical utopia!

Another self-taughie here. I had tuition on the drums, but not the bass. I think I had learned a 'learning structure' with the drumming, so it made easier to start on something else. I always feel that I'm quite a percussive bass player as result, kind of bringing both together. Although I have found that a pick works better on bass than drumsticks.....

My first gig I was taken to, was Chuck Berry in 1983. Did an hour dead on, and left. Legend!

Watched it - enjoyed it! I hate to be down on people, but a massive +1 on all the comments about Mr. Baker. Came across as thoroughly unpleasant. A shame. It made me wonder that apart from Cream, he did very little of note afterwards, that's what he's best known for. Maybe it's that's the problem that's putting him in such a mood! I can see his issue - in the fact that Mitch Mitchell couldn't get much work after Jimi died. Even got turned down for Wings. As an ex/out of practice drummer, I've always enjoyed listening to Mitch far more than Ginger. Always found old Ginge a bit sterile IMHO.

I agree that FB is being left much less than it used to be....not good.

A few choice quotes from Ginger in 2010, Classic Rock Magazine - "Keith Moon as a drummer? Nah. He was good with The Who, I suppose, when he tried to play like me....Moonie was a wonderful guy, but if you're going to judge from minus two to 10 then I'm a golden 10. Mitch Mitchell [The Jimi Hendrix Experience] was a journeyman. He was hopeless. John Bonham [Led Zeppelin], Ringo Starr [The Beatles], Charlie Watts [The Rolling Stones]...they're all three or four" .... "But I hate the Stones and always have done. Mick Jagger is a musical moron. True, he is an economic genius. Most of 'em are *beep* morons....Paul McCartney boasts he can't read music! How can you call yourself a musicican, then? John Lennon was the best musician in The Beatles by a country mile. He was a very talented guy. But George Martin was The Beatles. Without him they'd have been nowhere."

Anyone using D'addario XL165 nickel wounds?
spongebob replied to bassbiscuits's topic in Bass Guitars
I've been using them for over 10 years. Have tried the odd 'other' string, but none have ever sounded for me, anyway near as good. For me, they are the best string out there. -
Recorded it, going to watch it later. Should be entertaining, by all accounts.
+1.

I've been using Deezer as a subscriber for a good while now, changed over from Google Play Music. However, as of this morning, I have switched back to Google. Never been a Spotify fan TBH. They've changed the layout on Google, looks far better than before. Something I always missed on Deezer is the kind of library in which it shows the last 50 albums you were listening to. Nice touch. Also, you can upload up to 50,000 of your own tracks (was 20,000). I'm an Android user (phone/tablet/chromebook) so Google Play is just the job. Certain albums that were missing before have now been added, and a few more which Deezer haven't got yet, either...the new Fall album, for example. Really interested to hear more about the Apple one as well, see what it's all about.
Tis funny, I`ve got the long Mono GS1 and even on its longest setting I find it`s only just the right length.
Blimey!

Hello and welcome!😊

Watching back on some of the Glasto footage I recorded last weekend, I was a bit taken aback by a couple of incidents of on-stage spitting! Patti Smith hocked a sizeable loogie in her televised set (reviews said she did it 3 times, maybe once was gum), and I think it was Pharrell who did the same. Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but there's really no need, is there?
