1.
It's a terrible bass and I'm going to send it back. Feel better?
Not yet! Looking forward to a full report on this - and pics! Where did you buy yours from? I've seen them quite 'well priced' (!) through Thomann at the mo, with the decent exchange rate. Have a great night with it!
2. US Geddy Lee?????? I've got great GAS for one of these right now. If it is one, please tell me it's a terrible bass and you're going to send it right back......!
3. Very sad. Started listening to a good bit of Brothers J in the past year. RIP Thunder Thumbs.
4. It is the one as seen on Top Of The Pops.....shame it's a lefty..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rickenbacker-4001-left-handed-bass-White-1979-ex-Vapors-/221774217176?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item33a2c5ffd8
5. There is a photo on the net somewhere of Roger with two modded 4001's - the jetglow one and a fireglow with the same jazz-pup mod.
6. The Stranglers had some superb flip sides - 'Fools Rush In' has always been a fave of mine. I'd also chuck in 'Psychadelic Rockers', the flip of 'Too Nice To Talk To' by The Beat....cracking bass, great tune!
7. Ex-Rainbow, Moore, Sabbath and others has sadly passed away. http://classicrock.t...uber-dead-at-63 Interesting article about his career, and that Sabbath episode - http://jeffcramer.bl...with-craig.html
8. I like it, but Jazz basses don't like me! I for one like his Jazz tone on record, both then and now - but I am a big fan of both GL and all of the band's output. I've read for years debate about which tracks he used the Jazz on when he first introduced it to the bands sound. Interestingly, some have said that he used it on one track ('Entre Nous' AFAIK) on 'Permanent Waves', others said the album is all Ric. Well, scroll down the page to Geddy's interview from the period, and he says different - I found this piece quite cool reading. http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/transcripts/19800600guitarplayer.htm
9. I saw him in the 80's with The Drifters - Johnny Moore was also back with them at the time. Very sad. It's an era which we are slowly losing.
10. My Fender Rumble amp is 2x10. It is very loud and full by itself. Easily fine for gigs (I have gigged it, and it was plenty). I added the 1x15 cab to simply give it more of the same, if you like. Just a bit more presence overall - but in rehearsal, I only ever use the amp. Got some gigs coming up when I won't bother with the cab either. To add, our drummer is equally 'enthusiatic' - and the 2x10 was fine - never even made it to half-way!
11. What a lovely bass, and a tearful reunion to boot! Really glad you've been reunited Mark - I can only imagine how it feels to own a bass that long, as your Precision is only a couple of years younger than me!
12. I managed until this year, February, before I've ever cancelled a gig. Always thought I'd make it whatever. I started to feel a bit queasy at work, and a little dizzy. Managed to (somehow) get through the day. Luckily I start early, so I got home about 2pm. Even my colleagues, usually thoroughly unsympathetic, commented on how pale I was. As soon as I got home, it started. I've never been so sick in my life. 20 times on the Friday - I was 'under the weather' so say the least! Problem was, we had a gig booked that night. At first, I did the old 'it'll wear off by tea-time'....but soon realised it wouldn't. Had to admit defeat during the afternoon, and tell the band I was out for the gig. It was an hour's drive away, I couldn't have done one ten minutes distance! Upshot was I spent 3 days sprawled across the sofa. No more sickness after the 20 times on the Friday, but just a total lack of energy. I've no idea what it was, or what caused it (some kind of winter vomiting virus?), but it was the first time I've ever been prevented from fulfilling a gig. Bad days!
13. I tried with a couple of sets of different flats on my P, and it just didn't sound right. Stuck some D'addario Nickels on, and immediately it was 100% better. Funny thing is I had flats on a previous P, and it was fine!
14.
And try and emulate a P...???
.....another reason I never bonded with a Jazz - the best tone I could get from it, with my style, was just too P-esque. So I bought a P!
15. Two very hard listens. Queen Esther Marrow, 'Mama' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ-t0F1RLvk James Brown - 'Mama's Dead' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZw4h1EhsbM
16.
Just pulled the trigger on the 210 extention cab to go with the 500 combo! Heres hoping its a keeper!!
I'm really interested as to how you find this - I went for the 115 following discussion over on TB - but I was very tempted by the 210.
17. I noticed they have gone up a fair bit. US Precisions were something like £1158 last year, now about £1219.
18.
The Roq Solid cover arrived this morning. It looks very well made and is a good snug fit. I ordered one with an optional front board pocket to give a bit of extra protection for the cloth grille, but the cover hardly needs it. The standard grade of material seems quite robust. I'm certainly happy with it
I bought Roqsolid covers for both my Rumble amp and cab. Really impressed - I actually think they're even better made than my old ones I used to have on my Markbass stuff. Maybe you should have ordered one for your cab at the same time, Norris, seeing as it's only a matter of time before you give in LOL!
19. Sorry Mark, I actually quite like this one!!! Go on, give it a listen I dare you..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH8W-Labb24
20. Sounds good - lovely looking bass, 100% cool as....a bit like Dee Dee himself.
21. I've got too many to list! But from what I heard on the radio today - most production jobs from the last 15-odd years. I tend to start analysing a song as soon as it starts, and then by then end of it, detest it! I did read something about this a while back. It was said by a musician that he wished he could go back to hearing music like 'most' people - ie, record comes on, and just enjoy it for what it is. The point he had reached - which admittedly I can totally agree with - was that as soon as he hears a track, in his head he immediately de-constructs it, and therefore can never hear or enjoy a song for what it is. I'm always by the radio at work bemoaning 'that terrible snare sound', etc, to to general indifference of everyone else!
22. You'll find me playing at 'Glastonferry' in September - 3 days of music in the middle of the Kent countryside. Who needs the real Glasto?!! Never actually been to a festival, and TBH, never want to. I'm not really a communal person - I'd be like the Manics in their 'toiletgate' controversy!
