    BBC4 8.30pm. It was originally scheduled at 9.30 on my guide, but it's now 8.30. Apparently they're on a little bit earlier - for an hour I believe - not sure if we're get a running 1/2 hour, or highlights. Just hope the iPlayer will show the full set.

    We are The Howlin' Wolves, a 3-piece power-trio playing R'n'B in the classic Dr. Feelgood vein. I am obviously the bassist! Our repertoire is a mixture of covers and our own originals, with us having released 2 EP's over the last 2 years. We've been gigging since 2012, and have dates booked throughout the rest of this year, and plan to continue into the next. Our (ex) drummer has left us in the lurch, departing with zero notice. We have some deps lined up, but obviously need a permanent member ASAP! Based in Kent, we gig over the South East.     Good man! I saw them in '88 (twice), and again in '89. I really want to go again, but they never seem to do much of a UK tour anymore. Maybe this year......

    Just a heads up that BBC4 will be showing Motorhead at Glastonbury this Friday night. To be followed by the excellent 'Lemmy - The Movie'. Well done the Beeb for showing something decent from Glastonbury. I always record all the coverage, but this is the first time there's a band I want to see!

    The 'S' does indeed have the VT control. Dots, as you said, and the added difference of a contoured body shape, and of course no binding. Pickups are the same as a 4003, so the tone is actually the same. It's YMMV - some prefer the looks/feel of the S over a standard 4003, some don't. Remember, the S was the preferred bass of Chris Squire and some guy called Paul Mccartney, although I've never heard of him. I actually got one a couple of weeks back, in Ruby. Had a Mapleglo first which I had to return for QC issues, but the Ruby is great. I've had 4003's before, but never an S.....it's a very nice bass indeed - if it was my first one, I'd be stuck what to go for - I'd say the S is certainly more playable with the contours - but I'm equally content with the normal slab. Goes well with my old 4001......!

    I swear by D'addario Nickels (EXL 165's) on all my Rics, past and present. Either way, you can't go wrong!

    Borrowed some bathroom scales - apologies for the upside down image - can't seem to turn it around! Bass comes in at spot on 4kg - 8.8lbs says the Google converter.

    I bought a Mapleglo 4003S last week, and promptly sent it straight back. Had an incredibly dull E string, and a chronic earthing problem. I've had lots of Rics, so am okay with the single coil hum....but this was unplayable, the buzzing was almost louder than the bass' output. I'm probably going to try one more, and if that fails, stick to my old one!

    Bit of a thread resurrection! Has anyone actually purchased a bass from the USA using the GSP? I've spotted a good deal - a saving of around £250/£300 when imported from America, and that includes the GSP extras. Wondering if it's a good idea, or if you still get stung.....

I bought it brand new in my attempt to stay away from basses that shall not be named, and change things round a little.....I've found I can't! Have another possible one incoming, so I have to fund it with my Precision. It has been lovingly looked after by me - strung with D'addario 45-105 Nickels. The condition is [b]superb/immaculate[/b]. A few tiny, tiny indentations (caused by my strap) on the rear - the camera will not even pick them up. Besides that, it looks like it's just come from the factory. Tiny bit of pitting on the tuning keys - there from new - again, too small for the camera, but mentioned in the name of 100% honesty. Hardcase and all 'candy' included. Case is also superb, couple of tiny grazes from when it's been to the studio. If you are after an almost new bass at a used price, look no further. Like all post-2012's, it has the [b]Custom Shop pickups.[/b] The bass sounds immense, and [u]100% classic Precision[/u].
