1. I've recently become a full-on Fender player. Dabbled before, but really enjoying the brand right now. I suppose I was always worried about being too obvious before, just took me years to realise why so many people play them. Easy to play, easy to adjust. I'm sold!
2.
PM on the way
....and sold to Gareth pending!
3. Brand new and unopened set of GHS Precision Flatwounds, 45-105. I am going back to my old D'addarios, so these are up for grabs. I'll even throw in a second set - only had a few weeks use, so good for (probably) years to come! These are £30-odd new, so how's £25 for the pair, free postage? Payment by Paypal 'gift' please. Any questions or interest, just ask! PS - Apologies for the upside down photo - for some reason, I couldn't edit it the right way!
4.
^ 20th Century ended 15 years ago dude!
I know! I realised that people were using such things in the 20th - so I'm only now catching up with the previous one!
5. Sold a set of Marcus Miller strings to Martyn. Super guy to deal with - seamless transaction with great comms as well! Deal with 100% confidence - thanks Martyn!
6. I've just ordered the Sansamp Tech 21 - kind of a late Christmas present for myself! I've been looking on and off at these for a year or so, but been a little disillusioned with my tone of late, feel it would be good to try a new approach. Never done anything like this before, so it's a journey of discovery for me. I also read that most bass tones yo hear live on on record have normally been through some kind of box or other, so maybe I'm just finally joining the 20th century!
7. I've always played by ear. Although everyone tells me that bass is more conventional with pick or fingers......
8. Been looking at a few You Tube clips of the Sansamp Tech 21, and been reading a fair bit on here about the amount of BC'ers who use such DI boxes. I never realised they were so popular - I've always been a lead from bass to amp/cab, and tweaked the EQ on on there. No messing, just straight in! Am I in the minority, just plugging and go? I don't know what it is, there always seems to be something holding me back when I look at such boxes, like it's a modern extra I don't really need. Both basses of mine are strung with flats, and the only tones people seem to video are the really bright, Geddy-esque types. So I'm not sure if they'd ever do anything for me. Wasn't sure whether to put this in general or effects - but I kind of think it's a general point of confusion!
9. I've recently started listening to a lot of JT. Very cool - and some seriously great bass in places.
10. Love the photos - very cool!
11. Big Rush fan here, love it all. Saw them at the 02 on the last tour, thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how they've progressed. In fact, the albums I probably listen to the least are the earlier, screechier ones! Still love 'em, though. Probably in the minority here - but I've no issue with Ged's current tone. Like the '7 Cities' clip above, fantastically growly. It's unmistakeably Ged, as much as the Ric days. I far prefer it to the Wal or the Steinberger!
12. Love the GHS Precision flats. Nice tension, and fab tone. Sound like real old-skool flats on record!
13. I recorded the show, and started to watch it last night. I had consumed a few celebratory lunchtime pints (hey, it's was a Bank Holiday), and, ahem, a couple before tea at home (day off today). Watching it, I had the same concerns as above - I thought it was me! Kept thinking how wrong it sounded, just all over the place.
14. Lovely! Same as mine! I've always wanted the white/maple combo - timeless IMHO.
15. Set of 4 DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams, 45-105. I bought these on Monday from Strings Direct as I've had Flats on the Jazz - love them, but wanted to give myself one last try this year on something brighter! Fitted them at 6.20pm, had them back in the packet by 6.40. They're just not for me, instant regret - and I re-fitted my Flats! I paid £34.99 for them - I've rolled them up and still have the outside box as well. They've had less then 20 minutes playing time. Any takers for £12.50 - free postage? Payment by Paypal as 'gift' please. No photo, as I'd only be showing the box, really!
16. Sold Tim a 'Zero-Mod' thumb rest from the US of A to fit a....ahem....certain bass from that neck of the woods! Great comms and a super-easy sale. Very nice man to deal with. In fact, I could probably list another 4003 reasons to deal with Tim again!
17. Please note - I contacted the mods about this and have had clearance to post. Bought this a few months back, but no longer own the bass! It's a 'Zero-Mod' thumb rest (http://www.zero-mod.com/) for a 4003. This is not a Rickenbacker product, it is an after-market addition to a 4003 bass. No drilling or anything required - it comes with two screws that are slightly longer than stock, so it fits straight on. It's clear, so from a distance you can't even see it's on. Makes playing finger-style so much easier. It's a great piece of kit, made and sent from the US. Condition is mint, I never really used it as me and said bass parted company! They work out 20-odd quid new, so I'd like £10, free postage Europe-wide. Payment by Paypal 'gift' please!
18. It's nearly New Year, so how about a look back on the BC'ers buys and sells for the past 12 months? For me it was - In - Fender US Standard Precision Fender US Standard Jazz Fender Geddy Lee MIM Out - Rickenbacker 4003 Fender Geddy Lee MIM I learned that I was not a Ricky player for life as I thought, after gradually getting disillusioned with my tone. I also discovered what a bass sounds like in the mix when you're not competing for sonic space with the guitarist! P with flats showed me that my amp and cab actually has got lots of bottom end!
19. Sold a truss rod tool to Martin for an 'infamous' US-branded bass. Super-smooth transaction, great comms and brilliant to deal with. In fact, I can probably think of another 4003 reasons to recommend a deal with Martin!
20.
S So, spongebob, you bought one yet...? Or did one appear under the tree...?
I did John! Bought it my myself from Amazon. Really like it - full of great info. Loads of models, even some artist stuff to for general reading. I'm not technical at all - literally at all - but with what I've got in there, I'm able to sort out basic set-ups at home myself. Thanks to all who gave the positive responses - I can add to those now! Great read.
21. Will stream over the weekend. Never heard much of his stuff before. Legally stream, BTW - I'm a Google Play Music subscriber. I always assume that when I use the term, people will think I'm doing something dishonest!
22. I'm liking that! Very cool!
23. Pretty good - will be 36 gigs for our R'n'B trio by the 31st. Given the climate, I'm very happy with that. Recorded and released the EP, and managed to shift some as well, outside of the UK as well. Changed drummer, which could have caused problems, but was actually seamless and we're all happy! Now booking for 2015, with recording pencilled in for February, for a follow-up EP. Hopefully to contain my first ever-to-be-recorded song I've written - so a personal goal to be aimed for already!
