    1! Just my Ricky 4003. It's had quite a few mods, so for me after owning a good few, it's the one I've always heard in my head. I really should have a back-up.....I sold one recently, as I never used it! Trouble is, when you finally have 'the' bass, everything else just feels wrong.

    I've had a good few 4003/4001's and often the saddles are not cut centrally! There's a lot of examples of the strings then sitting well off the pickup poles. This is one of the reasons that I changed a few parts on my Ric - what the factory produce could be far improved upon IMHO. Previous Rics I've lived with how things were - but I decided that I just want the one bass, play it to bits, and make it my personal Ric. Now it sounds, plays, and feels better than any other one I've ever had!

I must admit, I'm really happy with the look - and the incredible weight saving! Big +1 on Mark as well - I wasn't too sure which type to go for - but Mark assured me that these would look the part for a Ric....and he was right!

    Mark at Bass Direct did mine for me, as a Ric is 2+2....and it's all genuine USA.

    I've got a set fitted to my 4003 - genuine USA - I bought mine from Mark at Bass Direct. Really love them - they are NOT a direct fit if you use all the Hipshot parts, it does involve drilling some holes. I didn't mind, as my Ric is a bit away from standard anyway with other mods, and I wanted the most comfy and playable Ric I could get....and these help a great deal. The weight saving is amazing, especially if your bass is quite heavy to start with - as mine is. ....and I love the look as well!

    I love JB - got loads of his stuff. He had a run of amazing albums which lasted to the late 70's. To achieve what he did - his upbringing was terrible - makes it even more astonishing. He's one of the true greats, that really doesn't get the mentions he deserves in my book. Bar the odd 'Pappa's...' and the like, a lot of his work seems to be a bit under the radar for many people. Some of it still hard to find - the 'Reality' album, for example.     Perhaps it's because on most modern recordings, it's been reduced to a dull, lifeless thump with no definition. Maybe less are taking it up, as they probably can't hear it, and don't know what it actually does!

    1 here. We're pretty busy, and we're all fully into what we do. Got a new drummer recently, and the proviso was that he wasn't in anything else - just adds complications and clashes. Fairplay if you can balance it, but every second band-er I've ever played with has always had the 'can't do....' thing. Members in just 1 ready to go, but getting held back by the other with too many commitments. Always helps if you're all on the same page. We can get together at a moments notice if needs be, which means we're always busy most week of the year doing something!

EP ('Bring It...') is stream-able through all the usual sites (Google Play, Deezer, Spotify, etc.) and to buy through Amazon, iTunes, and the rest. Released earlier in the year. Bernie is a top man to work with as well!

    Good choices, great band. I'm gradually streaming my way through their catalogue. Fave so far - 'Eat A Peach' - superb! Bit worried about after that, as net consensus seems to knock them a bit after about '73....

    Up for grabs, sadly, is my Geddy Lee Jazz bass. I bought this in April - restring, set-up, and new Gator hardcase (about £110). Condition is immaculate. It looks like it's just come out of the box. Even under light, I can only see a couple of almost undetectable indentations on the rear from my strap - that's it! They won't even picture, they are that small, and not really worthy of mention. The case is also A1, as new. Neither bass or case has been modded in any way - they are as they left the factories. I've played it at band practice a couple of times, and that's about it. I bought it as a back-up bass, but TBH it's too good for that. An ongoing house project means I need the cash right now, and may invest in a cheapie down the line. The bass-ics - if you've got this far, you know what they're all about - great neck, Geddy grind in tone, and the all-important Badass 2 bridge (which they no longer come with). They've been MIM for a couple of years, and this one has a '13' serial number, and a Mexico build. I have previously owned a MIJ Ged, and without bias, this is a far better bass. The pickups are much stronger (a weak point on the MIJ in my opinion), and the whole bass is really stable. The neck has stayed perfectly as it was months ago. Please check my feedback on here - you'll be getting a brilliant bass, a few months old, well packed, in an as new hardcase. No trades - sorry - bank transfer please. £620 will get this to your door via UPS. Postage in the UK is free. I'm located in New Romney, Kent - collection possible. Happy looking!

    I've been watching a bit of DP through the TV (the wonderful invention of Chromecast), in particular the 'California Jam' concert. First thought was that it looks like a hell of a gig! GH is playing a gold-coloured Fender P bass, same bass as he seems to be playing on all clips '74-onward after he stopped using the Ric (sadly). I couldn't see a Fender logo on the bass (unless I missed it) - had it worn away, or was Glenn using a copy? Whatever it was, it sounds really nice in the mix - just wondering what it is. [/quote] It's pretty good, I enjoyed it. If you're a Rory fan, it's a must read, as in the absence of a great Rory book, it's our only original source! I didn't know Donal called it that - very good! I'd have liked a lot more detail in certain places, as the post 'Top Priority' years go very quickly. Fairplay, Rory slowed down in the 80's, but the band was still together, and I'd have liked more first hand knowledge. Band does less, suddenly Rory has a drink problem, and it's over! I finished it with a lot of unanswered questions. All I learned was that Gerry entertained Anita Dobson for a night before she was with Brian May....and that, I could have lived without knowing!

    It saddens me to say, but I've not heard new record in sometime that actually excited me one bit. Part of it is modern production sounds, for me it's too lifeless. I think at some point during the 1990's, the world lost the ability to make a decent sounding track. Snare sounds - my personal gripe. I'm so bad, I have to turn off the radio if a songs production irritates me too much! Drum sounds in general are just awful now...all sound like they're submerged! Drums and cymbals go 'ttt', not 'pffft! Main thing is the quality that's missing, not just in recent times. For me, the golden days of the album were the late 60's and 70's, 80's in a small part, 90's lesser, 00's non-existent. For stone-cold classics, that is. I'm 40, and remember buying old records in the 80's as a teen. For what I liked, the golden age had been and gone by then, and today it's worse. The thing is now, I think a great song - if one was around - would be ruined by the production. I for one would hate a modern job, but equally when they try to give it retro pastiche. It might be me - as I type, I'm working my way through the Miles Davis 'Cellar Door' sessions - 350 minutes of what I call the absolute business, whilst others would call it something else entirely!

    I don't remember reading Gerry Mcavoy being considered (not mentioned in his book IIRC). However, Rory Gallagher was a contender to replace Mick Taylor, even jamming with the band for a few days. This is mentioned in Gerry's book. I'm glad he didn't, as a big Rory fan, I hate to think what we might have missed out on. Saying that, you never know if he did, he may still have been around, which would have been the greatest gift.

    Whatever feels right. I picked up a used MIM Geddy Lee sig Jazz a few months ago as a backup. I've previously owned the MIJ model a few years back. Surprised me as the pups are much stronger, neck more stable....big improvement on the old model for my experience, and it's MIM. Just shows you what's out there - but if my main bass was a Fender, I'd go MIA, as I'm an unapologetic bass snob!
