1. There's a gorgeous American Vintage '74 Jazz - pretty steep, but looks fab with the blocks and all.
2.
May be worth sending spongebob a PM I think he is looking for one of these
Thanks TB! 4stringer did PM as he mentioned, but I was just after a backup to string differently! Just ordered some pickups now so I'm out of the market! Good price and great basses, and this one looks fantastic. Have a free bump on me - GLWTS.
3. Sorted - it's a 1/16. Answered by the company themselves!
4. Any idea which size is the exact one? Think I've got one, but I'm sure there's maybe one thats a better fit? Can't seem to get an answer searching online!
5.
I must admit being told that we were adding a rhythm guitar for a festival we are doing made me sad.
Fully agree. Been there with the guitar wall of sound. Most bands I've played in that had a RG didn't understand how to use one. Simply played the same things together, and just ended up with a louder version of the same song. I always wanted a trio....more space, more money, less schedule problems......and you can actually hear the bass!
6. I played for ages in bigger bands, and was quite content to be aa the back, Last few years, I stick to the trio format.....and you can't keep me from the front. I do all the leaping about! You'll love it. Make sure you give the Ricky some stick as well....my lot always hate it when I don't bring it, and we're all R'n'B and blues.
7. I had one a few years ago, didn't like it TBH. Awkward shape, and unless you mod the electrics, it buzzed like a disturbed wasp's nest! I found myself fiddling the various knobs and switches too much, never really settling on a sound. Saying that, I lke passive basses, and that was my only foray into active. I didn't last long! Saying that, I still think they look fab. Mine was the red one, MIJ, and it was gorgeous. A fine bass in the right hands with slight tinkering just not for me. Good luck in the search.
8. I've been watching since the '76 re runs as well, and really like it. There's great stuff, as well as the tosh. But it all makes it what it is. I was far too young to see it first time around, so it's quite a treat. TBH the '79 shows so far aren't as good for me as '77/'78. Maybe as it's the time I start to remember some of what was on....I was only 5, but it was always on in the house, so I suppose it's my first musical memory. ....and you can't top Legs & Co., can you? Tina Charles......maybe!
9. I've used Thomann lots of times - excellent service and packaging.
10. Good call. I found when I removed the Ric bridge, it was similar weight to the ally one. Funny thing was the brass one was a tenner less when I bought mine!
11. Mine went flat to the deck - during the gig! You'll love the bridge though - makes the bass 100% more playable. I too have for years played Rics as they came, and suffered! It's quite liberating - and my tone became noticeably more 'Ric' - a mixture of the bridge, and the change of my playing position. Where did you buy yours from? Aluminum or brass? I bought my ally one from Mark as Bass Direct.
12. Just ordered some Loctite Blue as well......
13. Good choice - but watch those saddles! I posted all about it yesterday in the Repairs section.
14. Was yours a Hipshot as well Mr. Machine?
15. Replaced my original bridge on my 4003 with a Hipshot a few months back. Despite the horror stories, mine has been great - until last night! Without warning, the D string saddle moved flat right down, and the string was basically on the fretboard. I then had to adjust it upwards after nearly every song we played. Not a good night! Looked at it just now, and some of the other saddles have moved about as well. It's gone from all okay, to the whole thing going haywire! Online, some have used Loctite Blue, which will apparently let you adjust, without being affected by vibration. Just wondered if anyone else had had similar bridge issues, or can offer any solution? Just lucky I've got the Geddy for today's 12.30 gig!!
16. We had a guy approach us in a band I was a part of about 5 years ago before a gig. He made out he was official, and wanted to know exactly what we played, to see the level of which songs were being played most, so artists could benefit from royalties! I was extremely cautious - though he was from the Inland Revenue or something! I never did find out if he was genuine, or if it had ever happened elsewhere - I'd actually forgotten about it until now!
17. I can't wait to see it. Can never have enogh Jaco in my book. Maybe I'm all the more fascinated as he died when I about 13, so I had no idea until some years later who he even was. To me, not being there at the time, I suppose it's Jaco the legend I've taken from. I'm sure it wasn't all good, as in the biography.
18. Thanks - it's fine giving a quck tweak, just when knowing which way to go LOL!
19. Done it! Seems to have stopped it - will leave to settle and see how it goes. Deffo a lefty - thanks for the info!
20. It's the 4003 - should have mentioned that, sorry! It had a full set up about 2 months ago, and all was fine then...but it's been gigged a fair bit since. So a slight left turn to both (buzzing affects all 4 strings) should quell this?
21. Very simply - when you're action is fine at the 12th, but bass has developed buzzing at the lower frets, is it a lefty loosey or a righty tighty?
22. Here's that Glasto clip - excellent tone! https://www.youtube....h?v=g4KHCQ98mzs
23. Thanks - should be fun! We're not a Wedding band as such (we're an R'n'B trio) but they wanted what they like, so it should be an experience!
24. I know the feeling! Always feel quite quite zonked out the next day, even if I get a good night's sleep. I never touch any alcohol on gig days/nights, or when I get home, so it's not that! Mostly work Saturday's, but I find if I'm up and about - and at work - I don't feel as sluggish as if I were at home. Off to play a Wedding reception tonight.....so late night + that Monday feeling....great!
