1. As a good 10+ year Ric player - with a few diversions elsewhere - I can only state for personal opinion that my playing on any other bass, doesn't sound anything my sound like a Ric - I played a P for a bit last year, and my sound, well, sounded like a P! So much so that I soon moved straight back to a Ric.....
2. Many thanks, Mr. Moose! It's available to buy through Amazon, iTunes (only £3.16), etc., and also can be streamed through Spotify, Google Play, and others. It's called 'Bring It...' Amazon charge a fraction more (£3.56) - they all choose their own pricing! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bring-Howlin-Wolves/dp/B00HZX4BHI/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1394623932&sr=8-7&keywords=the+howlin+wolves 4 tracks and 20 minutes of maximum R'n'B - all with the glorious tone of a Ric thrown in! Perhaps I should stop pushing the free option....!! Love to know your thoughts if you indulge......
3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkwBOSAfr1w Nothing new? Our new EP, recorded and released this year, 100% Ric. Available to buy and stream from all leading sites (shameless plug!)
4. I saw the band in Folkestone on Friday. Second time after going to Brighton 3 years back. Support band Nine Below Zero were excellent - I knew them, but not really their stuff. I was really impressed - especially as I was most looking forward to seeing drummer Brendan O'Neil, who was Rory Gallagher's longest-serving drummer. The Stranglers were really good as well - great setlist which took in some a real mix. Only two downsides - the bass mix was appalling - far too low, and not what it should be. Lacked any kind power until it was cranked up for the encores. Jet Black has apparently been unwell, and did not appear - despite numerous calls for him! I wonder how long they'll carry on - JJ has said that without Jet, that's it. So maybe it's getting to that stage now. Overall, a really good gig. Don't think it topped my last time (Jet did the whole gig), but they were solid.....and NBZ were a cracking opener!
5. Very sad. First heard him playing with John Mclaughlin.
6. I'm always considered mad when I say that the Beatles do nothing for me - any era - just leaves me cold. Glad I'm not alone! Springsteen I've always found a little bombastic - quite like his first two albums, less so after. It's funny, I know someone who's really a big fan of his, guy of about 30. Whereas as I am 39 - the gap he missed of the Boss was the era where I first heard him, the massive Born In The USA time, where he was inescapable! Just a few years difference and he sees Bruce in a different way to me. Ramones I do like, well, their first five studio albums anyway (up to and including 'End Of The Century'). Afterwards, can't stand it. Jumped the shark in a massive fashion with a series of total stinkers.
7. Ebay? I was watching it out of interest. Very nice bass - amazingly low price, very well done! It was actually on BC before the ban - I admired it then as AG is a fave shade of mine. Great basses, I've had a couple myself. I did change to a 4003 though because of the 'bigger' sound it brings. Happy playing!
8. I'm GAS'd out! I do play in a gigging band, but since December, I've been a mono-bassist. Came to the conclusion that more is nice, but TBH I'd rather put the money into other things. Always liked the idea of a single bass and playing it to bits......should have done it years ago, but GAS always led me astray - even to owning various years of the same bass....! No more 'which bass tonight?' and all that. I personally think you need to get the curiosity out of the system, that's the only cure. In bands or just at home, the 1 bass thing is achievable when you get fed up wih blowing cash or run out of things to try!
9. A lot of empty space here! I no longer (as of a few years) own any vinyl/cd, etc. I have also just sold my ipod and dock (which was the cd substitute), and gone down the wireless route. Tablet, speaker, and a monthly subscription to Google Music. Unlimited streaming, so I never need buy a download again. Download sales are now falling, as more and more opt for paying for a stream service (Google, Spotify, etc.) I have no interest in the physical side of music (I used to) - just access to a library a could, years ago, never imagined. I like!
10. That's really bad news. I didn't have tickets - although tempted - as I don't particularly like London gigs (though I did see them at Hammersmith back in the '80s). Rather see them in Brighton or somewhere (saw them twice in Folkestone in '88/'89), but obviously there was not too many dates to start with. Get well soon Lem.
11. Now available on Amazon!
12. Jazz basses give me fore-finger ache. I was in agony with it, and then I realised what was causing it. I kind of didn't want to, as I really liked the bass at the time (and hadn't had it long). But sold it on.....problem solved.
13. I think it's a place we all end up in eventually. Maybe just get fed up with losing/wasting money on instruments! I'm a one-bass owner now, and have no intention of ever buying another if I don't have to...just going to play this one into submission....
14. Thanks Robert. Ricky straight into the desk, no frills!
15. I was interviewed for job by their mum. Didn't get it.....
16. TBH I like all of Ged's tones, I think each suited the sound of the band at the time. I love his tone of the new CD/DVD - as much as I love Ged with the Ric, it worked well at that time, but like the Wal, things change. I did find the 'Rush In Rio' tone a little bright, though.
17. Please check out our new (debut) EP, available for digital download now. Direct from CD Baby, iTunes, and coming soon to Amazon and multiple others. Here's the CDB link - http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/thehowlinwolves You can also hear one of the tracks in full here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkwBOSAfr1w Thanks for looking! 18. Had to sadly part with my USA Precision - but happy it's going to a great home with Aidan. Great communication and an excellent chap to deal with. Enjoy with my best wishes - and BC'ers please deal with 100% confidence.
19. Very sad. I first heard the 'So What' pattern through Ronnie's version.
20. I'll be there - love these repeats.
21. Very informative, many thanks - an enjoyable read! I was jamming with some Abba this week. I think the songs are so omnipresent that it's easy to forget how amazing they are. I personally think they represent the best pop ever. I really love 'The Name Of The Game' - there's so many fantastic chord changes in there, so clever. To mention the article - 'Summer Night City' as well -brilliant. In fact, I can't think of such an unbroken run of great pop that incorporates so many styles. Gives a good excuse to post this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ90ZqH0PWI
