1. My luthier said last time - dont panic if it moves again, just tweak it. It's just never happened before, especially twice in such quick succession. I can't see them refunding me.....and I'm not big on distance repairs either....I'm at a loss as to why it keeps moving back to its starting point, especially with a graphite rod running through it!
2. I'll check. I know the paperwork is standard Fender, but the bass was built a few years back. I've used it for the month, so it's mint, but not now as new. I think it might depend on customer service - I'm always a bit worried if any shop wants to take a look, especially doing it all by post.
3. I actually bought the bass from Reidys over the phone. Took it to my local luthier for adjustment - restrung it the week I bought it, around 4 weeks ago. Only one pinhead indentation, otherwise like new. I'm well over the 14 days return.period, so not sure where I stand? I downsized for financial reasons, and I feel I've ended up in a bit of a mess! It's moved back to where it started from - 2nd time within a week....
4. I bought a pre-2012 US Standard Jazz about a month ago. Brand new, old stock. Upon purchase, it was clear the neck needed adjustment - like playing a banana! Had a full set up....but within a couple of weeks, the neck had returned to the same position it started from. Relief through the roof. Took it back and it was tweaked again. But here we are a week later, and it's back there yet again! I've never had this before.....do I have a problem? I can go on adjusting on a weekly basis forever??
5. Our drummer is leaving, so we need a replacement. We are The Howlin' Wolves, a Kent-based R'n'B trio, covers and originals, heavy Dr. Feelgood influence (a large number of our covers are DF or songs that DF covered!) We gig over Kent and the SE, band is running so we have stuff booked, so need someone to slot in as easily and quickly as possible. Please PM me through here and I can pass on details to our head-wolf! www.reverbnation.com/thehowlinwolveskent Come on you drummers.......
6. Roadworn Jazz has a thin neck as well - not as thin as the Ged, but still very slim. I had one very briefly - lovely bass, but I couldn't play it as it gave me serious forefinger pain due to the narrow neck!
7. The Howlin' Wolves - R'n'B trio, both covers and originals. Work in progress - www.reverbnation.com/thehowlinwolveskent
8. I know someone who was in his class at school!
9. It gets said a lot, but a J can emulate a P thump, but not vice versa.
10. Sorry - double post! Damn phone....! Please delete mods.
11. Interesting topic - looked at this myself. I think a sub gives you smartphone access?
12. It's hard, and it doesn't make you feel great! I was once booted from a band I was drumming in. By email! I immediately rang the other two to sort it out, neither would answer their phones to me. Did bump into the bassist sometime later - who put is as ' I didn't agree with it, but there's no point in both of us losing out, is there?' Funny thing is our drummer has just quit in current band. Quite lucky, as he was likely to be replaced soon. He's a constant moaner, nothing ever right. At last week's gig, he complained that I play too many notes, and it's doing what his right hand should do(????), and that's he's never played with anyone like me before! He's an example of someone that need/ed to go!
13. Played there myself. Nice place. Something's got to be done to stop these places closing like they are.
14. Good excuse to post this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIbGsfq92BE
15. Don't know if anybody's been following the updates, but Motorhead have today cancelled more dates due to Lemmy's health. Worrying times - there's a lot more about it here - http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=192006 Lem is one of the main reasons I picked up a bass in the first place - I really hope he's back up and running again soon. Get well soon Lemmy!
16. I too can feel where the OP is coming from. I think we all go through 'down' periods of playing. I feel at the mo I'm kind of forcing myself to play for a bit everyday, as I'm still in a gigging band. Some days I'm loving it, other days I want to throw it in the nearest ditch! We've got a few weeks off coming up - I'm going down to one bass - but I feel I've got to keep my hand in. But if this band finished any time soon, I'd certainly have a bit of time away. For me, music - and bass - has given me so much pleasure, but with band politics, it kind of brings you down, and I think kind of leads to a feeling of taking it out on the instrument, as if it kind of represents what gave you the problems, rather than the those around you..... .....well it makes kind of sense for me! .
17. Interesting stuff! I think I've found a safe haven at work so I won't be leaving it out in the car all morning....just the amp and cab! It's piece of mind - just got to remember to take it when I leave.....the building's locked until Monday....!
18. I'm going to try to get in into work - but I was worried it would be safer in the car!!
19. I do work somewhere pretty rural, and the car is fully tinted so you can't see in!
20.
Just as an aside to your point of view about covers and fenders Rob, have a watch of Glastonbury over the weekend, and play the bass spotting game. You'll probably come out with about 90% fenders, and no covers bands. Not all of them will be old duffers either, and none of them will be dead.
Very true DV. I was watching 'Later.....' the other week and every band featured a Fender bass!
21. Wasn't quite sure what to call this thread for fear of misleading! I've got a gig outside this Saturday. Played outside a lot before, so that's no problem. I've got to take a bass and amps to work and leave it in the car during the morning, and it's going to be quite warm. Obviously then play in the open, which is also hot (if the forecast is right!) I was just worried about leaving a bass in a hot car. Never would have bothered me a few years back, but a Luthier once told me about the damage humidity does to a bass - obviously affects the wood, and once it's cooled down, can muck the set-up right up (had one done last week before gig was called!) Am I being daft? Any truth in this? Should I get the bass out ASAP, or just leave it in and play the thing (which I used to do!) Any ideas?
22. Rickie Lee Jones' debut has got some great bass work....great album generally as well.
23. Maybe some do prefer 'other' basses (I prefer my x Jazz or x P)- but as many have mentioned so far, they are simply copies (impreoved or otherwise) of Fender's original! So arguably, from the fact that they are still the basses to copy - Fender did get it right!
24. I agree a good Fender is hard to beat. I love Rics, but when it comes to reliability and a good plug 'n' go, they are hard to beat. Millions of records can't be wrong!
