Don't know if it's on a +1, but the BBC1 TV show 'Pointless' just had a bass players round a few minutes ago! I won't spoil it for you - I managed all 14 answers - but only managed one above the lowest in each. Quite an entertaining bit of banter between the hosts as well surrounding us bassists! I've bought a couple of items from Mark. All mail order, and always had great service. First item I ordered over the telephone - we had a nice long chat about basses and amps - very educational for me. As a result, if I ever need a new amp or cab, I'd certainly take my bass up there and make the trip, and Mark made it clear that he would spend the time to show me items I never knew existed! I love the early stuff as well (love all it TBH) - but I'm quite glad they don't really do the 70's stuff. They've moved on so much since then, so a bit of 2112 at the end of the set is enough for me! I'm happy that Geddy, at almost 60, isn't still singing about tasting honeydew!

I do love Ric basses, and TBH the attitude of JH would not put me off. I've got more issues with the years of shoddy QC to deal with first! [size=4] [/size] .....and I do play one as well.... [size=4] [/size]

I was up in block 412 - high enough for me to feel sick when I first sat down! View of the stage was superb, though. Once I got used to the height, let the show begin! I've been a fan for years, but it was my first time seeing the band. What can I say - I flippin' loved it from start to end. What a band, what a show. I never go to venues like that normally (my tastes don't include artists that can fill such a place), and IMHO, didn't like the venue one bit - but that could be said for any 'enormodome' type. Band was on fire - sound was fine where I was (for that size), and I was just grinning from start to end. Once settled in, I forgot about the size of the place and just really focused on the performance. Setlist? Brilliant. No spoilers, but TBH I was thrilled that they didn't just knock out the obvious stuff. It's all on live albums and DVD's multiple times anyway - I'm really glad they delved a bit deeper and bar the 'have to play' encore stuff, avoided 'here's xxxxx for the 1,000 time in 35 years. I love CA, and that segment was immense. Long gig - I could have watched them all night - but I think it was about 2 and 1/2, maybe 3/4. I had high expectations being such a long-term admirer - and they even surprised me - just a great experience.

One of my old band's vocalist's use to think he was a master of EQ and stage sound. Every gig he'd be on about the bass - always thought it was too much in volume or thump. I knew he was wrong! One gig I simply mimed during the soundcheck..... You guessed it - gave me a thumbs up, and announced, 'perfect'! [size=4] [/size]

Having a chat about a similar thing this morning. Upshot was, you get paid to travel to and from gigs, and the music is free!

These Ric threads tend to follow a similar pattern - 'I hate Rics' 'I love Rics', etc... It's a bass shape and sound which never fails to fascinate. I gig mine regularly, and it always gets attention. I can guarantee that loads of the posters here, if faced with a Ric, would have their hands on it in seconds, despite protestations! Like some others, I can see where JH is coming from - not a popular view - but he certainly doesn't help with his tactics. Maybe I've been brainwashed due to my membership of Rickresource - the only fan forum where anything deemed anti-Ric (even questioning is immediately deleted and removed!

RIP to another great player. I saw Uriah Heep in about 1991, and I must admit, really enjoyed the gig. Really solid player, so well locked in. There's a lesson in bass playing in itself.

Great musician, great band - and always came across like a very nice guy as well. Ray will never be 74 - 74! The music is simply timeless. I used to play in a Doors tribute band, so had to work out bass (or my interpretation) to many of the tracks. Really fun to play, just great stuff.

Can't afford it now, but booked my tickets for the O2 last June when I still could.... Can't wait to hear reports back from the Manchester show - the setlist from the tour so far looks excellent IMHO. I think access to music is an issue as well. These days, with the internet and MP3's, we can get so much music so easily. I remember in the 80's (I was born in '74) that the records I wanted were often so hard to get. Rubbish record shops (around here anyway) that had to order, and maybe, just maybe, might be able to get what you request...eventually! Obviously the music magazines have changed as well - there are now the 'retro' mags in which you can find more out about 'older' bands than I'm sure you could have done at the time! With the internet we now get to hear more bands as well - living even in the remotest part of the country does not get in the way of access to a particular band or song - something which wasn't the case before. For me, we live in the best time now for music. Not that I particularly like much out there right now, but for the fact that we can find and own music so easily, more that I ever dreamed of in the days of C90 cassettes and scratched vinyl! If you want to live (musically) wherever you want, you can - we have the technology!

I think I sound like me! I've had others have a blast on my basses, and I'm always surprised how 'different' they come across. Probably down to position, string attack, etc.

I'm interested to hear it. I didn't like 'Homework', but really liked 'Discovery'....didn't get around to the third one. This one is getting great reviews as well.

I've never got around to buying ASAM - come close, but always been put off! I love the band with Lemmy, and without him, I dunno, the records kind of lose their appeal a little. Saying that, 'In Search Of Space' is sans-Lemmy and is a fantastic album. Get the bonus tracks reissue, and you get 'Silver Machine' as well - so you can get some Lem on there! [size=4] [/size]

I love a good Jazz bass, but just can't play them. I've tried a few, and ended up selling them all, as they caused me really terrible discomfort in my forefinger. Persevered as I really wanted to be able to play them! Now I just stick to the Rics - neck profiles suit me 100%, as does the tone and shapes (4003 and 4004). There are other basses which I love (Precisions, for example), but when I played and gigged them, all I ever felt was 'it's not a Ric'!
