1. In my experience, when bands stop communicating, it's normally a sign of things coming to an end! A guitarist I know always rages about people not responding to texts, etc....and then I text him, and don't hear back! TBH, I'm one of those that always replies quickly - just think it's the right thing to do. How long does it take?
2. Fantastic! So true!! Thanks for posting!
3. Lovely bass, Ms. Undead! Last US Precision I sold, I had bought another within weeks as I missed it so much.......!
4. I'm starting to see why Peter Hook started Freebass...... ......until they all fell out.....
5. Been listening to some Joni Mitchell, in particular the 'Miles Of Aisles' live album. I knew she was backed by the red-hot LA Express, but to my shame didn't know the pedigree of bassist Max Bennett. Checked out his webpage - his discography is more a case of trying to work out who he hasn't played alongside! http://www.maxbennet...php/discography He'll be 85 (!) this year, and still going strong!
6. +1 on much of the above. Soundslive, GuitarGuitar, Bass Direct, Thomann - all very good customer service. Saw a mention of Absolute Music - bought from them about 5 years ago, and they were excellent. Even asked me how I wanted the bass set-up - restrung as well, played like a dream!
7. All his available recording are just timeless - 'Extensions Of A Man' I am particularly fond of. Real soul.
8. PM'd!
9. I've got both the Stockholm '69 shows on audio. I think there was an early and a late. The second show seems to be 'the one' where it all came together....but TBH, the Experience on a bad day is still a million times better than most bands since. Yes, I am an unapologetic Jimi devotee!
10. I'd love to see him doing his stuff. When I was learning, picking out his lines was fun as they were easy to learn, but very effective, and he regularly played over the whole of the neck as many of his lines were very lead or melody based. Technical? No. But he has a style which is his own - both in sound and in stance! Regardless of ability, he was the right bassist in the right band(s). Imagine Joy Division with Jaco? Extreme example, granted, but just want to illustrate how what he did was perfect for the overall sound. .....and I bet he's very entertaining as well, going by his interviews in the press!
11. Love Jazz basses, but I can't play them because of the slimmer neck. Constant sprain in the forefinger! P-bass feels perfect in my hands.
12. Looks nice - but I really like the standard JJB sig bass above. Me likey!!

14. I totally love EW&F....in fact I've been on a real fest of late! I think their early stuff is still very underrated - their debut was released in 1970, very different to the later stuff - it's all good in my book! Must admit, I don't own any of their stuff after 'Powerlight' - the post-hiatus material seems to get a bit of a mixed reaction. Although I always intend to pick up 'Illumination', their most recent album (2005?) as it's supposed to be pretty good.
15. James Taylor - Your Smiling Face http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fsfod891J0 Always loved the line on this!
16. Rickenbacker 4001/4003 without question for me!
17. Great stuff so far.....really enjoying everybody's input on this. Poll seems to indicate a swing towards FX at this stage - I'm quite surprised TBH. As I mentioned at the start, I always struggle to think when I'd actually use them. The covers band is old-skool R'n'B - P-bass and amp - the originals band (suppose it's 3-piece, Jam/Kinks/60's....) it's just Ric and amp! I suppose I'm just very satisfied with the sounds of the basses I play, and just can't imagine how I could improve on that? Hence I have considered an 'all in one' box, to maybe add bits as required.....but I then keep thinking that I'd never use the thing!
18. Thought this might get more love here than in the 'effects' section, as it is applicable to both. By effects I am referring to actual pedals and units, not just fiddling with the EQ on your amp or head! In my covers and originals band, I've never seen a gap to use them.....but TBH, I've never even tried one. Hence I've followed the topic about the Zoom B9 1UT. But it's the same old concerns - would I actually ever use them? Alright for a couple of days, fine at home, then just plug 'n' go as I always have done? I'd be really interested to hear in what musical context BC'ers use their effects - any clips, etc?
19. I've got a 2012 P, and it's a fantastic instrument. Only had one US P before, and that was equally great - stupidly sold it, only to be replaced with the above! Also had a US Jazz (had to sell due to medical finger-based fretboard radius issue.....!) which I loved. As you can tell, this is a positive post - I for one have had an excellent time with US Fenders! In fact, compared to my experience with Rics (which I still love despite my numerous 'build' issues) Fender have been the opposite. Excellent from straight out of the box, playing and sounding like a dream.
20. +1 again. I've had a used bass from Mark, and most recently, a couple of his excellent Mono straps!
21. I left a covers band a couple of years back - mostly politics, but partially the really bad music! Made a decision then - I'll play in bands I enjoy, not just to be in 'another' band. I'd stuck in the old one for a long while, just to stay active. I ended up having what turned out to be about 3/4 months off....and much fun it was too! A band did turn up, and I joined on my new-found terms - telling myself that it stopped being fun, it's better to be happy and band-less, than band-ed and miserable! As it turned out, that one fell apart by Christmas 2011, but I'd already found another, and then another covers band gig came up in 2012. If they fell apart tomorrow (one is always on the verge of.....!) I'd window shop for another - but one to be happy in!
22. Thanks for all the help fellas! Will try this later. I put it as a New Year suggestion addition to our R'n'B trio's setlist - thought it would work really well!
23. Great song, verses no problem. But you know the 'other' bit - 'when Black Friday comes, you know I'll stake my claim....etc'? I can't seem to work out the run! It's obviously A, G, F#, G.....I can't get the other bit from then on! Any Dan experts care to share their experience?
24. Another vote for the Precision here - even above a Ric in this category for me - very rare! Most recorded bass ever? Check. Pedigree? Check. Sits and fits in with any genre? Check. The classic all round bass? Double check!
25.
This is one of my favorite tunes, but based on the jist of some of this thread it includes poor bass playing...
Great track - good call! But can you imagine it with a 'busier' line? Would ruin it completely!
