1. I love Eddie - great artist, timeless music.
2. If I didn't have a P already I would be jumping all over this - great looking bass at an amazing price. Have a bump on me for a superb bass - good luck with the sale, Mr. Geek!
3. More OT, but related to the above post - good point! He played the Ric on 'Something Else' on TV in '79 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F_FqbZ0iJY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuHvkXgfATk
4. Two basses here - 1 Ric, 1 Precision. Had periods of 1, and small periods of more, but never that many TBH. I could easily just live with the Ric - and it has crossed my mind to do so - but I do love the P, great bass. I always take two to the studio, so that's a good reason for a backup. Also, when I had a bit of work done recently when I had the 1, I was 'bassless' for a day or so - and that was an awful experience! Bit of a panic as well as I had a gig coming up, and just had to bank on it being back in time. Never take a backup to gigs - and I suppose the backup amp is the PA...... .....and 1 bass ownership always leads to increased GAS IMHO!
5. Got it today - superb piece of kit. Great service/delivery from Mark at Bassdirect as well!
6.
He never touched the bass again after Hendrix gave him the heave ho. He preferred guitar.
He bass-ed with Road and the Noel Redding Band long after he left Jimi. I've always been a big fan of Jimi, with Noel or Billy Cox. Both integral to the overall sound - as I sit typing this with the 'Winterland' concerts playing loudly behind me, with Noel on top form. Regardless of technique, gear, and what ever is examined, I'm always amazed at how the bassist in perhaps the hottest trio of all time, behind the the ultimate guitarist, can be seen as 'duff'! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XTkOWvpb-Y Terrible, right??
7. Hi Dave - hope you're still giving that Jazz some stick! Just to help a little - for our covers band gigs, I tend to try to book on reputation - places I've played in previous bands, places the others have played....try to find out which venues are connected (there's a few around here that are). You can't be a bit of good old-fashioned bluster. I knew a musician who booked everything on simply approaching the landlords - no idea how! I did try the web route for some places, but found that most would rather an 'instant' hit, like a CD they can play whenever. Good web presence is essential - I try to do it all and see what sticks! Hope this helps a little!
8. That's great news, well done that man!

Zoom 708ii

Just been searching the Jaco 'tone' and the idea came up about the Zoom 708ii pedal. Bring new to effects in general, just wondering if that is an up-to-date model, or if there is another product on the market that would offer basic effects (distortion, chorus, etc.,) with a things like a Jaco thrown in? Be used mainly with a US P if that helps!
10. Haven't opened it yet, but a Planet Waves string winder/cutter. Normal Christmas surprise - bought it myself a month or so back!
11. Thanks all! Just ordered a long smoke ultra suede from Bassdirect. Thought I'd push for the extra (£6!) to get the top of the range! Looks like a lovely strap - and better for the shoulder..!
12. After a lengthy gig last night, I've decided to upgrade my leather Gibson strap. It's just the basic unpadded leather variety - solid, narrow, and not forgiving...never really thought about changing until my shoulder has recently started to crack fairly often! Should have done this years ago. Just finished a check on BC, and looks like the strap field has moved on a lot - they look like machine gun belts or something Rambo would be proud of! Quite taken with the good views of the Mono GS1 - but looking for advice on the size. Just measured my current strap and I'm wearing it at 48cm....which I assume would be a large mono at the shortest setting? Only ask as I'm on the cusp of a long strap short, or a short strap at the longest....if that makes any sense? Buying blind off the net, so I'm thinking that the large would be the size to go for? Will order once I find out ASAP!
13. Bump for a great seller - can vouch for George as a superb man to deal with. Buy with confidence, he really knows what makes a great Ric - if he says it's good, you'll get a corker!
14. Don't forget this is all on tonight! I've seen 'Flame' before, but will definitely record it to watch again - wonderful stuff, and I think most of us have experienced some of it!
15. Jaco/Chris Squire/Geddy? All 3 game-changers in my world!
16. I bought from BD in the summer, and it was delivered next day. +1 on the couriers this time of year - they are literally swamped with packets.
17. Don't forget 'This Chritmas' by Donny Hathaway....great track. Fully agree with the OP - real lack of the festive stuff. Last big ones I suppose are 'Last Christmas' and 'Missletoe And Wine'!!
18. I played a gig last night with our originals band, with two others on the bill (one before, one after). Sound wasn't bad - but the most noticeable thing were the other bassists - you simply couldn't hear them! Both were playing Jazz's - but for whatever reason, they didn't give out any tone, or even any bass. I took my P-bass, simply as I knew I'd get a 'big' sound whatever the acoustics. Must admit, I was really pleased how I sounded. Didn't think anything of it until our drummer commented on it later, and how the first bands' bassist was apparently open mouthed and staring at me and my gear during our set! I've found that's one big plus point of the P - I'm pretty rubbish at EQ, but I can get a great sound really easily live. I was just really surprised that nobody in the other bands seemed to notice what their sound lacked, even the bassists themselves!
19. Ordered! Many thanks for the kind offer Kevin as well - the true spirit of Basschat!
20. Got 'BTLS' already, so will go for this too...as I am a fan! Should make for an informative Christmas Day afternoon after a few liquid relaxants!
21. +1 on 'Mystery Song' - great track. I think that anybody that plays must give a nod to SQ....hard working band, still very successful and loyal fan-base ...and seemingly nice guys as well. You can't ask for more than that.
22. Cool, thanks!
23. Been looking at this - is it worth picking up? Good insight? Just wondering - is an hour for each album, or with both combined? I'm a massive Rush fan, so am pretty tempted anyway...!
24. Jaco Pastorius' Word Of Mouth! Joking aside, I think most have been covered....but I do think The Fall have suffered without Steve Hanley...never the same when he left.
25. Thanks George!
