I recently bought a used Jeff Berlin combo.....Great piece of kit, and no tweeter to content with. Happy days!

+1. Outstanding service and attention to detail. I too can't praise Will's business enough.

Funny (ha ha or peculiar) gear transactions

I bought a guitar practice amp from Glenn Tilbrook out of Squeeze in the 90s. Had no idea it was him until I saw his flight cases with his name on, and then it clicked (I'm not a Squeeze fan...) Very nice chap, though. Tried to flog me an acoustic 6-string as well IIRC. He had stuff advertised on the wall of a local, independent rural supermarket - same place, in fact, where Linda Mcartney had stopped in the car park to let me cross some years before! -
I've recently been using DR strings for the first time - their Lo Rider Nickels, 45/105. Must say, I'm a bit of a convert - very nice tension, not to bright, just nice. Tried looking where to buy them - doesn't seem that easy! Bass Direct and Andertons.....that's it! Anywhere else that sells them? Just gives me more options going forward. Mods - Please move if appropriate - I used General as I thought it more retail-based, than an actual string query. 😁

Still down! Interested to see it, as I'm a self-confessed Markbass fanboy. Love the looks, tone.....have tried other brands in the meantime, but always come back to the black and yellow!

Saw that. Was trying to access the site, but all you get is the countdown! 🤣

I had a passive Stingray copy very early when I started playing. Bought my first 'real' one last week.....a black/maple 4H. Love it. Great neck, tone, everything. And I'm a pick player. After years of Rics and the odd Fender, I wanted the treble vibrant, but some bottom kick as well. I did a gig some years back, and our opening band had a Stingray bassist. It was an ephinanny moment....that presence! And then I plugged in.....😱

I think it's a shame how many of the festivals have lost their 'alternative' side. Glastonbury looks to me to be a glorified pop festival, bit like the V festivals. Looking at line-ups of festivals through the 70s and 80s, and when I came up, the 90s, they certainly weren't aimed at the pop crowd....the pop world was a separate entity. My main gripe of many of the acts....pop, rock, folk, whatever, old and new, was that there was such a large factor of dullness. Lacking in edge. I wanted someone to jump out the screen at me! Maybe Nicky Wire had it right...at least he caused a reaction (and a ban at the time as well?) Agree with him or not, but can you imagine anyone daring to say such today? He'd probably earn a corporate cancelling!

Thanks chaps, as I thought. Nice to know for sure! 😁

Did a search, but can't find a definitive answer to this. Ampeg claims 500w - am I right that you need a cab to achieve this, same as the Fender Rumble? Just a thought, or I'm back to Markbass shopping......!

Don't think so.....previous festival coverage, from various channels, doesn't sound like now. Same as many newer records, bass is very low end thump. More probably being felt than heard.

Big +1 on that. Bought a fab Ricky 4004 Laredo from you way back....2009? Another one I should have kept! Glad you're still involved in the bass world.....kind regards to you....Iain

Like to just add to this thread, as many have, by giving Will and Bass Bros a plug. Bought a fab Stingray..... everything 100%, and set-up to my exact description. Great stock, and well worth a look. I'll definitely be going back.

Seen a bit so far....bass-wise, nothing really jumping out at me. Bit like the Isle Of Wight coverage on Sky last weekend, who seemed determined to ape BBC-style Glasto programming. Bass tones on most of the acts were undefined and just, well, bassy. Most of them you couldn't make much out....from what I've seen of Glasto, seems to be similar. Lots of Fender P's and Jazzes, odd Ric....not that the sound told you otherwise!

Looking at the complicated (to me) video, I may just live with the grime! 🤢

Just grabbed a gorgeous '06 Stingray, blaack/maple. Fretboard front is fine, but the back is quite grimy, and discoloured with the dirt. Anything I can use to bring back a bit of cleanliness? Did a search, but got a bit lost....!

I used a 1x15 set-up for quite a while, loved it. Looking at something similar again. Maybe....!

I've just bought a little Laney 15w from Guitar Guitar, £80 new.

I've only sold basses through The Bass Gallery, each time was fantastic, total satisfaction.

Great packing jobs of our time!

I bought a bass of eBay a few years back, and although it had a gig bag, the seller simply wrapped the whole thing in brown paper. Miraculously, it was unscathed! -
Never played anything having touched a drop. I do like a drink, but as I was always driving, I've always operated a zero-tolerance policy when driving, and/or performing.

Got a wanted ad for one. Want one!

Another ex-drummer here. Started at 11, but switched to bass for logistical puposes later on. I'm currently not playing either! What I've never lost, is my drumming ear - it's the rhythm I always focus on. Even playing bass, I would have always decribed my style as percussive - almost like I'm drumming. Always with a pick, lots of ghost notes, all over the place, really! What is the rarest thing ever to find....a great drummer. I've played alongside loads of people masquerading as drummers, whereas I can only think of a couple that really were. Knocking out a 4/4 with occasional cymbal crashes is not a drummer (if that's all they do)......most I played with ignored the song, and just steamed through, just cluless. The bass playing job is just a million times easier alongside a proper drummer. Rant over! 😁

Last time I was playing regularly I used them. Found them also to be long lasting, with a nice feel and tone. Definitely a step up from the regular D'addario Nickels I'd used previously for years (not the same set, though!)
