1. Down to 1 guitarist now? I saw them in '91 on the Painkiller tour......I'm not a metal fan these days, but Priest and other bands I saw at the time were the best live acts ever.....really gave it their all.
2. I love the old Yes records - haven't really listened to much after 'Drama' TBH. I'm kind of listening from a distance as I wasn't born until 'Relayer' came out, so for me, it's about the merit of the songs. Chris' bass tone is without doubt the highlights of some, already excellent records. Last week or so, I've been getting into 'Yesshows' - great version of 'Gates' on there, one of my fav Yes tracks. I even enjoy 'Tormato'! Nowhere near as bad as I've read about. Only thing I can offer on the debate is that I did read that he used a Telecaster bass on 'South Side Of The Sky'. Aside from that, I like to think it's the Ric on most of the other stuff. I'm surprised 'Time & A Word' never gets more of a mention. Fabulous record, and Chris' tone on that album is sublime.
3. Dunlop 1.00 Tortex for me - the blue ones! Been using these for years, great picks.
4. Received a lovely Rick 4001 from Dave today. Transaction was so easy - loads of excellent pictures, great and fully accurate description of a gorgeous instrument. Packaging was superb - no danger of any damage. Better than many guitar shops! Definitely deal with Dave if you get the opportunity - 100% trustworthy......a real nice guy and true gent to deal with.
5. Thanks all - good advice there, and some stuff to take a good look at. I'll have that nailed by next rehearsal!
6. Lowest of the low - I can't imagine how upset you must be. I sincerely hope you get it back soon, and that the thieves responsible receive some swift (and painful) karmic justice.
7. Thanks for that! I think my theory must be even worse.....now I'm really confused!!
8. Just joined an upbeat r'n'b trio to compliment my originals band. It's all Dr. Feelgood type-stuff, regular mix of r'n'b and rock 'n' roll. A couple of times, we've gone through 'She Does It Right'. Great song. I've been playing it really simple, keeping it as hard-edged as possible. At the last rehearsal, the guitarist said that on the record, the bass part contains some chords! I've had to go through the song on Youtube, etc, so the bass frequency isn't that great....so I can't really make out what's going on. Anybody played this one before? How did you play it? Any tips on this so I can nail it before next rehearsal?
9. Many stockists seems to be all out of RW's at the moment, especially the Fiesta Red Jazz's. I really like the RW's - if I could justify having one around, I'd love another as they're real 'personality' basses in my book.
10. Cool, thanks Mr. F!
11. That's great, many thanks guys for invaluable help. Now to get some wrap.....!
12. Total shame - one of my faves....I've got all their stuff, even the hardcore, the instrumentals....love it all. Such a creative bunch....I've always admired how they genre-hop whilst keeping it real and not clichéd. 47 is no age.
13. I've sent loads of basses before with couriers, but..... I've agreed to sell my Brother's Marshall (guitar) 30w amp for him. I'm getting it on Sunday, so may put it on BC as well (comes with an equally mint Epiphone Les Paul in a flight case as well!) Probably end up on E-bay.....fine, but how on earth do I package an amp for a courier? I've only ever sent basses in hard cases - so I'm not quite sure how to do it. It hasn't got any original box or anything with it, so any suggestions as to what I can do?
14. I'm a fellow 2 Ric man. Once you go Ric, it's really hard to play anything else. Everything just feels boring and 'wrong' to me. In my experience, most people who knock Rics - 1) Have never played one 2) Always wanted one but haven't got one 3) One of the above Let the Ric-knocking commence!
15. Always use Stringsdirect or Stringbusters - the only places to buy IMHO. Great prices and superb service from both.
16. Maybe we'll get the full 'Gates Of Delirum' isolated bass track soon...mmmmmmm!!
17. +1 on S&A from me. I'm a big supporter of that record.
18. I own two Rics. For the band, there's limited choice.....that one, or the other one (though they do sound very different to me). Job done!
19. I had a great one, but sold it to fund my return to a Ric. If I'd have got the spare cash, I would have kept it - wonderful bass. Probably the best P-bass I've played.....and a great price as well!
20. OMG - that's just Ric porn to me!
21.
To fatten the sound of (pre-2011) 4003s this capacitor needs to be removed or bypassed I'm led to believe. It acts as a hi-pass filter on the bridge pickup cutting off the lower frequencies.
I thought people stopped doing this after the late 80's? I'm aware of the mod for the 4001/early 4003, but you haven't had to do this to the newer Rics for years.
22. +1 from me as well.
23. Maybe we should all form some kind of uber-reliable bass orchestra....
24. Brilliant musician, and from what I've read, Levon's a lovely man as well. Such sad, sad news. The Band's records are timeless classics IMHO......they were a true 'band' in every sense, as you can't imagine their part being done by anyone else...they certainly created magic together.
