  1. Well, it's a sort of 'democratic' instrument - instead of having to learn the chords you can just strum it and press down the key with the named chord. Here's P J Harvey playing one: The sound is a bit like a zither but with chords. Hmm, that probably doesn't help? Here's my mate playing it more like a zither (this is the actual autoharp for sale here) IMG_1044.mp4 You'd look BOSS playing it on stage
  2. Cool! How different is the switch between reverse and normal? I built a couple of reverse P's and it feels like a good choice, but a bit hard to quantify when you've chiseled out the pickup hole - having it at the flick of a switchmeans you'd be uniquely able to say?
  3. I love the amazing 1 page manual which could be futher sumarised as "Plug it in. Turn it up".
  4. I've had this is a case for 20 years. Time for it to get played! Tottally out of tune, missing 2 bass and 1 treble string, some cracking to the lacquer and scratches. Sounds amazing (amazingly out of tune!). The sound board warps up around the sound hole but doesn't affect playing. No idea what this is worth really. Comes with carry case, will be packed well. £20 delivery UK Open to offers, especially with collection from N8!
  5. Will accept £1250. For sale is my Music Man Cutlass Bass (2016-19), gutted to let this go. This is a lovely bass which I spent a long time chasing down. It's either this of the '74 P-bass, so this has to go. You know what this is - It's a modern classic take on the P with some amazing & innovative refinements: great playable 6 bolt neck, modern large pole piece pickup, amazing build quality. Compound radius neck, cleverly designed neck join, classic but playable. It can sound classic, retro & modern powerful in equal measure! It has suffered one small ding to the side of a the fingerboard when it got knocked over on a session, of which there are two photos so you can see. Other than that there are the usual small chips on the lacquer on the headstock. I bought it new from Guitar Village in 2020. Weighs 8.6lb - so nice and light. Please check the photos for condition. Comes with original case and case candy. Will be properly packed and couriered. Can use the courier of your choice if you have a preferred one. Happy to send fully insured, or world wide, if you want to pay the extra, feel free to contact me for a quote on this. Or collection from London N8 with a cup of tea!
  6. Better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't!

  8. Yeah I really did a number on it. 😝 I'm having to move studio so I'm clearing stuff out and would rather it go to someone than landfill!
  9. Severely hacked about (I was obsessing over preamps) this is a lovely luthier made body. I think it's northern ash, so it is very dense and very heavy. It was painted black, I sanded it and lightly refinished it with an oil based finish. This job was BY NO MEANS PERFECT but you could easily strip the finish and do a better job (did I say easily?!). I filled the pick guard screw holes and the old bridge mounting holes, will fit a fender standard 5 hole. Comes with a lovely red pick guard WHICH DOES NOT COVER THE HOLES I DRILLED. Standard Fender size neck pocket - fits a fender/squire replacement neck. For clarity: this body has really been hacked about and is best though of as a science experiment. I put a Luistand double NFP pre in and a switch for a MM pickup (parallel, series, single). So would suit mad scientist. Or someone prepared to fill the holes and refinish it (black looked good with the red!) Feel free to make me an offer or ask questions. If you're near N8 in London and want to collect we can really talk.
  10. Gear4music P-bass body. They call it mahogany, I think it's Sapele? Light, resonant. It comes from them un-drilled, I've done a workman like job of drilling it. There are a few grease pencil marks that I'll rub off before sending. The finish is otherwise in good shape. I've had a neck and pickup on it so I know it intonates well. The only thing I didn't drill was the strap button holes. There is no hardware at all except the body and the pickguard - (mint green, shielded). £50 posted in the UK, boxed and ready to go! The pick-guard colour is hard to capture - the first image is the closest - together they look pretty good. Feel free to DM me with questions! Neck pocket is standard Fender size

  11. On the guitars Rivolta Fumante are referred to as mini-humbuckers, so presumably.
  12. When I play them some basses just talk to me and some don't, even if on paper they look perfect. Aside from that I am looking for specific tones I've heard on records (like thick mid P, or sharp grind on a stingray or super modern clarity) and it helps if the bass looks good. That last is awfully subjective, but boils down to "can you imagine yourself playing live with it". Like I love a pointy 80's bass but can't imagine myself playing one.
  13. Thanks - loving your calm and organised approach! I'm thinking of buying the full IVP kit from them - I have the PCB but haven't got round to sourcing the components yet (what happened to my life!?) - getting the enclosure drilled will help too. How're you planning to do the labelling?
  14. Good call - enjoying seeing your work
  15. Musikding are good - bought a few things from them. Aion I've seen on there site for years so I guess they must be at least ok or they would have dropped them due to support issues?
  16. Oh wow - that is monster! I'm pretty tempted by the Pompei, but I think my PCB build backlog now exceeds my likely years remaining. I think I still have a deadendfx board to make, though I can't remember what it is... good luck - someone must want something!
  17. Monty's do good work: https://www.montysguitars.com/pages/rewinds
  18. There is also a lot in magnet configuration e.g. the MFD has a ceramic bar under the pole pieces that, to my ears, increases the output, but also the dynamics and definition. Or, to take another Leo Fender design - the dual pole pieces under the each string with a p-pickup were specifically there to diffuse the bass response and attack from the earlier 'telebass' single pole per string version because that was apparently blowing speakers!
  19. Overwound would be a good example - https://www.fralinpickups.com/2019/10/24/overwinding-and-underwinding-a-pickup/ hotter, but also 'thicker'
  20. I have a '38 Rickenbacher lapsteel that I inherited (they changed the name to be less german after the war). Hand wound around a massive magnet. It does sound, er, warm and I suppose dirty - it's the same basic design as the rickenbacker horseshoe bass pickup, but I've never played a ric bass.
  21. Hmm, good question - and so subjective! I'm going to say DiMarzio Model P? I have some EMG active P and know what you mean by clean. I don't have model P's, but I have some PAF ones which are supposed to be pretty consistent with the modern Model P. Interestingly they are ceramic. Looking forward to other replies!

  23. A friend of mine was talking about these (https://aquilacorde.com/en/short-bass-one/) and how much he liked it compared to the u-bass. Anybody had one for a while? I'm tempted by Kala but I understand that they really aren't loud enough to play with, say a acoustic guitar. I'm thinking campfire rather than pub...
