  1. When I bought my L2000 last year from Wunjo the sales guy said the distribution here had been patchy but that was changing. There really isn't a lot of recognition of them as brand. I kept wondering when I bought it if I just liked the MFD's because they were so loud, but after playing it for a while and messing aroun with pickup height (yeah - indidual pole piece height!) I'm back to my original assessment - I just really like the full range sound. Personally I almost never turn the active on.
  2. It's probably one of those things where 'best' is pretty subjective - transparent is great unless you want the fat thick limited sound. Personally I like to have a blend knob so you can squash if you want and then add the original back in parallel to keep some dynamics and transients that keep the timing sounding tight without 'smearing'. That said, there is a hell of a lot to be said for something straight forwardly good sounding like the keeley where you don't have to fool about with too many settings.
  3. I've always liked them from the first time I heard one - the pickups are incredibly clear and dynamic - very easy to get a bewileringly wide array of sounds from. I feel like it can be pretty unforgiving as the dynamic range is so great! I have an year 2000 US L2000 and I've struggled with aspects of the tone in a band situation - I think because it kicks out so much top end it doesn't sound like 'a bass should'. I found starting at zero on the tone controls and turning up to taste best. Rarely use the active mode - the thing is so loud! Magnetic Field Design pickups are a pinnacle of pickup design for me.
  4. Hi all! I'm building a p-bass/stingray cross with a p-bass body and 70's style stingray preamp and pickup. To make the 'look' work (musicman stingray faceplate) I need to source a neck with an overhanging 21st fret (see pic). I've been directed to: http://www.usacustomguitars.com/necks/ And they sure look pretty but I was wondering if there are any options closer to home or even where to look? Or am going custom? Cheers! Alex
  5. I was really pleased with Vong - hit a lot of my minimalist pedal needs - though hard to drill the case with the push button on the side! I was recently thinking about building a passive ferrite DI from these guys: https://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/products/ferrite-di But then I thought why not expand the vong with a Cinemag CM-DBX transformer? Anyone tried anything like that?
  6. A couple of builds from the vong and the guma drive - I'm finding the Guma VERY fussy about powersupply - quite noisy when the Grunt switch engaged with a big 50HZ hum unless I run it from an old boss powersupply.

Hi my name is Alex and I have Dirt Pedal Adddiction Syndrome. I also have a great affection for envelope filters. I can't afford to buy new ones so mainly build DIY. So many pedals! I've been questing for the ultimate fuzz plus envelope filter tone. Bass - US G&L L-2000 made in 2000AD! In the UK, London, playing in a 90's rave band.

    HPF + LPF

Cool! I'm half way through - just drilled the case. I agree, great kits, but also well thought out pedals - the pumpernickle was about the only pedal I could find that ticked all my boxes in any form - clean sounding comp with enough controls to be meaningful (not just more or less squash!), AND blend. Add the blinking lights and I'm in heaven!

In a mix taming the bottom end is essential - I'm about to build the Vong with this in mind - my issue is primarily with a meatball clone pedal generating a lot of low as the evelope closes. I'd have thought the Vong with it's variable -12dB/Oct HP filter might be a bit much in terms of 'taming' probably more in the order of removing! Low shelf EQ might be nicer - like the baxandall in an ampeg style eq? I built the vong guy's pumpernickle compressor and I really like that, so I'm looking forward to hearing the vong!
