I am selling a few bits to have the cash to get my one and only quality guitar. I only need one bass and one guitar (no, really) hence the sale. Having not decided on what guitar I want it will be difficult to do a trade so cash only please. I will be looking at a Gibson 339 amongst others. Let me know what you have one! Also have a modded Fender Mexican tele for case under "others" category.
Anyone interested?

This was bought used from a guitar shop and already had the Seymour Duncan pickup added in the bridge position. I chose this over a new Mexican tele at the time (which were being sold for the same price) because this sounded so much better/meatier with this mod. The pickup retails around £80 new on its own Seymour Duncan hotrails. The guitar is strung with Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings. Also comes with a third party guitar case. I think new Mex teles are about £380 so with a £80 pickup mod this guitar new would be £460. Happy to let go for £300 and no lower as it has some very minor marks on the body and is missing the plastic pickup selector knob (which you can buy for a pound or so). Price reduced from £950 [s]to £875[/s] to [s]£850[/s] £750. Cost £1,200 two years ago! First to be able to collect from South London can have it for just £750..... I flirted with the idea of selling this last year but was terrified I might suddenly want it back having wanted one for so long. Unfortunatley I have only used it a handful of times since so cannot justify keeping it any longer. I bought from new from the Guitar Village in Farnham in 2008 and it has only let the house once to have Chris McIntyre set it up properly including lowering the action to mid/low. The neck plays really well - I'm not an expert Gibsons but I did try out a couple others before I bought this one and have to say they do differ from bass to bass. For a "big" bass the neck to me is narrow (like a Jazz?) and plays quickly. It is of course the neck through model and has all the benefits of the Gibson hardware and great full tone. The body and neck are completely unmarked - no buckle rash etc. Strangely enough I have not noticed any "neck dive", the front strap button is near the heal (or what would be the heal if it wasn't a neck trhou modlel?!). This bass is as new and most shop floor examples have probably had more use than this one! Comes with the original plush hard case plus any others bits that came with it from new (including hardly used original strings). Why don't I play it? Well I don't gig and rarely practice with a band now so I don't get the chance to unleash that great tone. It cost me £1,200 new. The professional set-up cost £30 last year. As this is "as new" and a fine example I am looking for [s]£950 [/s] [s]£875[/s] [s]£850[/s] £750 collection only from South London (East Dulwich). Happy for people to come round and try it out on my Ampeg amp of course. I bought this from Guitar Village earlier in the year and haven't really used it as I love my Sandberg too much! You know what it's all about - these sounds and look amazing and this one has been professionally set up by Chris McIntyre. Gibson quality varies and I spend some time looking for a good new example which this definitely is! If I can't get a good price I will keep hold of it so let me know if your interested.... Oh - comes with everything it came with and it's the standard sunburst.

Anyone? Could drop to £200 if that helps....not bad for a nearly new Ampeg cab! Has literally been used 2 or 3 times in my house with the other ampeg head (B2R) and cab (15") which sounded awesome together but I relised the house foundations were not up for it! These things are around £400 new.... Use it on it's own or add to a 15" for great all round tone.

I've got a nearly new (used just two or three times at home only!) Ampeg B-410HE cabinet. I bought it new with the intention of picking up an amp head later but then found somebody selling a head and cabinet together (Ampeg again as it goes) so now have this which is surplus to requirements. It has four 10" speakers and an adjustable horn for higher frequencies.
My luthier website client says he spends absolutely ages on the phone to people who just want to talk about things and not book any work ... Maybe he found the same thing. BTW he is already on the Recommended Luthiers list sticky IMHO all Thunderbird owners shoudl be aware of the neck dive fix http://www.lysator.liu.se/~wizkid/music/thunderbird_mod/ You may then play it more than your Jazz
Good tip for the Thunderbird, thanks. The neck dive is always talked about and seems some notice it and others, like me, don't. The Gibson has the strap button on the back where the neck becomes the body (ie where your neck screws are on the bolt on neck Epiphone). Don't know if this has always been the case on these Gibson models but looks like a better position than your original botton. The only thing I might do is put on strap locks.
I tried to get my bass set up by him a few months ago as he's only based down the road and has a great reputation. I found him absolutely impossible to get hold of, never picked his phone up and when we did arrange a time for the setup he wasn't there. Maybe that was just me
Only took me one phone call and a quick drop off and pick up the next day as I wasn't in a hurry. He's also down the road from me so very handy!

Hope this is in the right section. Just wanted to say I followed up a recommendation to take my new Gibson Thunderbird to Chris McIntyre in South London to get it set up correctly (Gibson poor set-ups etc ,etc, etc....) and he did a great job in getting everything right and lowering the action. He filed down the nut which was the cause of the problem and sorted out everything else too. Here's the link: Chris McIntyre He builds high quality basses too so I was almost ashamed to take a Gibson in! Very pleased with it though - the neck is perfect for me especially now it's set up properly. I know I will end up playing my cheaper Jazz copy most of the time, but the Thunderbird is fun to play and his it's place. Anyway - go and see Chris for a perfect set-up or even a new bass!

I have a very used Ampeg BR2 solid state amp head. It is silent when turned on until you plug in the lead (either when it's attached at the other end or not to the bass). It then makes a quietish ringing sort of noise which increases when you touch the lead plug surround at the amp end. Tried different speakers and it's not them. Does not affect the sound when played but would be nice to rid of this noise. At first I thought it might be interference from light dimmer switches in the room or the wireless broadband from the computer. Maybe it's an earthing issue - the head is in a 2U rack case. Any ideas?
Ive been considering the B2RE as an accompaniment to my B-410HLF... can you post on how it sounds (and critically, how load it is?)
Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but try Reverb (ex Sound Control) shops. Do a search on t'internet for their clearance stock and you'll find the B410HLF for £279 (usually shop demo but with their 1 year guarantee). I went to buy one and found it was the B410HE (ie no ported bottom and 8Ohms - usually cheaper). So ended up with that for £215. Plenty of their other shops do still advertise the B410HLF though for £279 so worth ringing up but get them to physically check the stock. Also B115 on same deal is £179. Not SVT, but still OK (though made in China!). As an aside: Once I got the B410HE home, I bought the B2R (previous to B2RE, slightly less power but US made) and an SVT115 together for £250 from a private classified ad., ending up with an Ampeg rig of arounf 375 Watts at 4Ohms (both 8Ohm speakers connected). Sorry for the really quite boring story!
