2. Its because of stories like these that I love Basschat! Real insight into real people.

4.
I've played at church and other Christian settings almost as long as I've been playing bass but I've also had lots of other playing experience along the way. It seems to me that there are plenty of distinctive things about the setting, some good and some not so good. For example, at a lot of churches you are improvising the song based on chord charts or simple piano arrangements; generally there is a lot of room for playing excellent and interesting basslines (although you can can get away with a very basic level of skill and simple often is the best choice). On the downside, there is often a lack of preparation time, you might find yourself playing with people who aren't very good and don't seem to do anything to improve and, rather than having to cope with a singer, you've got a whole congregation-full of them. As a bassist who is also a Christian, I'd be at some kind of regular gathering anyway, so the chance to take a bass along and contribute still feels like a privilege. However, it hasn't always been the most demanding playing setting and I'm glad that, looking back, I've taken plenty of opportunities to develop my skills in lots of other settings too. +1 I play with people who have no idea what they are doing and I try to help but I guess the musicianship aspect as far as they are concerned doesnt exist.
5. I started off as a drummer and then the bass player who we played with got a job out of town so I moved to bass. I hated playing with him anyway and I hated playing the drums!
6.
If it is other people's music you are to be playing (and if I were you) I would put together a good set of tunes that James Jamerson performed on and make sure to include a good coverage of songs from the simple but effective ('My Girl', 'Higher and Higher' etc.) to the rhythmically and harmonically complex ('For Once In My Life', 'What's Goin On'), and then go on to showcase a few other tunes where the bass lines and bass players have been very obviously affected by Jamerson's bass lines. You can choose a whole world of music by doing this.
+5
7. Hi, Does it have a hard case? Where are you based?
8. Have a bump on me. I bought one just like this and it has become my favorite bass! Good luck!
9. I play at a church called Salem International Christian Center. The band is a trio with me on bass, a keys player and a drummer. The equipment I use is: Bass: Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V and the rig is a Markbass cab with a Little Mark. The rig is entirely mine but I have requested that they get stuff that they can call their own. I tend to enjoy myself because I have grown up in that environment and the because the term 'gospel music' is broad, we get to play different kinds of styles ranging from American praise (Kurt Carr etc), Afro rhythms to Hillsong and contermporary rock. Its quite frustrating though because the whole music team arent as musically adept as they need to be but I hope they will get there one day.
10. Hi folks, I bought this bass brand new in October last year and sadly, I havent had much use of it. I only gigged with it 3 or 4 times but the music I play doesnt require this magnificent instrument. As a result, I have decided to sell it. It has new DR strings and the action has been lowered. It comes with a deluxe SKB flight case. I am based in South-east London.
11. I just found out that Sharay Reed will be playing for R. Kelly on his European tour which brings him to the Hammersmith Apollo sometime next month. I think I will be there to watch a monster bassist playing for a great artist! Happy People baby!
12.
If it's anything like the Para Driver, then it'll work off of a 9v battery, a 9v wall-wart or phantom power - which method are you using? Just thinking it might be something obvious like a flat battery. Then again, if you're using mains power via a PSU or phantom power off of the PA desk then it's more likely to be a fault in the unit. HTH, Ian
Thanks mate, I use a 9v battery and when it first occured I quickly changed the battery, the light still seems to dim but the problem may not be the Sansamp, I think it could be either a cable in the effects chain or one of the effects. I eliminated them one by one yesterday and when I removed the tuner and a cable, it seemed fine. Im gonna give it another go tonight. Thanks again
13. Almost-end-of-week bump!
14. Yes, its still available.
15. Hi, I am having an issue with the volume output of my Tech 21 Bass DI. When I initially plug it in, it works fine but as time goes on, the volume level drops significantly and it then sounds like the bass hasnt been pre-amped and DI'd. Any ideas on what this could be caused by and if I can sort it out myself before taking it to a specialist? Regards funkygreega
16. Hi all, I am selling my Line 6 Bass Floor Pod. Its been used on less than 5 occasions and I have no use for it anymore. Its in great condition. I am looking for at least 60 pounds and not for a trade.
17.
They do a Marcus Retro 01
Thanks mate.
18.
He makes one specifically for the Marcus. Have a look on the Products section of his site. Link in the OP, mate.
Thanks mate.
19. Maybe those with John East pre-amps can help. I want to fit an East preamp into my Fender Marcus but I am not sure which one will work well. I think the factory preamp sounds a bit bland and I was looking for something with a bit more thud and crisp. Excuse my choice of words....
20. Would you consider a trade in with a Line 6 Bass Floor Pod?
