1. Hi all,

I have a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz IV and I am contemplating replacing the factory preamp with either a Sadowsky or J-(Marcus) Retro.
The existing premap doesnt sound too bad but I guess with the added mids and possibly bright pop up, it would sound much better than it does now.
Problem is, I came across a thread and someone mentioned something about it (replacing preamps) not working if the bass is active already.
Can someone with deeper knowledge enlighten and possibly advise me on how to go about it?

  2. You may want to try The Bass Gallery in Camden. They have a fair bit amount of basses in stock like these ones: http://www.thebassgallery.com/Product_list...r&Strings=6

Futhermore if you would like to go instore, here is the map:

Personally, I am not a fan of 6's but if I was I would probably go for a Yamaha. Spector models arent too bad either but the best you can do for yourself is get hold of the ones you think you might like and have a go at them.

    All the best.

  3.
There is a very basic (tribal, if you like) feeling inside me that says, he was one of ours, we should bring him home. It just strikes me as the decent, civilised thing to do.

"Where do we draw the line?" I think there is a very obvious place where the line can be drawn.

On reflection, this is probably not the thread to be having this discussion.
Agreed. I am for a benefit gig. All the way

  4. Gaye was desperate to have Jamerson play on "What's Going On", and went to several bars to find the bassist. When he did, he brought Jamerson to the studio, who then played the classic line while lying flat on his back. He is reported to have played on some 95% of Motown recordings between 1962 and 1968. He eventually performed on nearly 30 No. 1 pop hits -- surpassing the record commonly attributed to The Beatles. On the R&B charts, nearly 70 of his performances went to the top.

  5. Jamerson is noted for expanding the role of the bass in popular music, which until that time largely consisted of root notes, fifths and simple repetitive patterns. By contrast, many of Jamerson's bass lines for Motown were more melodic, more syncopated, and more improvisational than had been heard before. His bass playing was considered an integral part of the "Motown Sound". He transcended the standard "bass line" and created a duet with the singer. Prominent bassists who have claimed Jamerson as a primary influence include James Brown's Bernard Odum, Rick Danko, Anthony Jackson, Jack Bruce, John Entwistle, Bernard Edwards, Jason Newsted, Jaco Pastorius, John Patitucci, John Paul Jones, Robert DeLeo, Mike Watt, Billy Sheehan, Geddy Lee, Victor Wooten, Paul McCartney, and Matt Rubano.

  6. I was looking for one till 3 weeks ago when I got a brand new one but in a different colour (something similar to Sienna Sunburst). As someone else said, if it had a maple neck..................

All the best with the sale.

  7. I read an article in the newspaper about Tim Kennelly. Apparently his family and the family of his mate who drowned are having difficulty raising the money to bring their bodies back.

Is there anything we can do to assist them? He is still part of us in mind and spirit.

  8. I have never used Bass Emporium to purchase anything. I usually use either the Gallery (great stockists and superb customer service I must add) and Digital Village. They cater for most of my bass related needs.
