Can't you all just let the guy sell his bass. If you want to make an offer make one. If you think the price is wrong send a pm. If you want to point out an error in the ad ( I don't see any - he's correct about the taxes) send a pm. If you think the price is too high don't buy it - he'll either drop the price or not according to how quick he wants to sell it. Picking fault like this in public is a pretty shoddy way to behave IMHO.

I use both - cases for tours (not so often these days ;-) ) and "van" type gigs, and gig bags for rehearsals or car gigs. Basically if I'm the only one going to carry it then a gig bag but if I am likely to have other people "helping" then I'm more likely to use a hard case. Cheers John

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure the East preamp are very good but I've read a couple of reports that suggest the Aguilar or Audere might be more transparent and they are a lot cheaper so I was looking at them first. Cheers John

Thanks. I'm starting to think of way to find the money.... not sure if my current gigs would allow me to use one, but I'd love to try. Thanks John

I'm not sure I have the funds - need to get a new clutch on the car this week :-( but how is it to play? I'm wondering how you would rate the difficulty in moving from normal bass to EUB? Thanks John
didn't Sheryl Crowe play a stingray with leather binding?
Sheryl Crowe. Leather. Sounds good to me!

|f you're real - then welcome aboard. I did assume the post was a windup perhaps by a longer serving member, but perhaps I'm wrong. If it is a windup it's quite amusing that people have gone along with it. If it's not a wind up, then it's hardly a big deal to suggest that people try to communicate in an understandable way and it's a shame a mod couldn't suggest so in a helpful way. Real or not - I look forward to more posts Emmanuel. Cheers John

Hi, I'm going to fit a pre to my geddy lee jazz. I'd like to keep the main tonal character or have the option to switch to passive. I'm looking to be able to add some tonal depth and presence - not more bass but deeper bass if you get me. So I might order an audere - getting great reviews and seems to fit the bill (in both ways at $100) but I've also looked at an Aguilar obp3 - slightly more and more fiddly to fit but supposed to be good. Any thoughts would be appreciated.. THanks John

Anyone seen anything like this before? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ernie-Ball-Musicman-...1QQcmdZViewItem Not sure if it's hideous or cool.... new stratchplate will help. I wonder what is under the leather. Cheers John

Thanks for the replies - as I said I was sort of thinking out loud and it's interesting to see other peoples thoughts I guess I miss the vibe that BW had and maybe I should accept that things have changed. Just seemed odd that on the one hand you can have posts being deleted without any explanation and on the other hand have a relaxed approach (compared to some forums) e.g. the Mccann thread and the occasional way the sales sections operate. I think I like to know where I stand and the relaxed approach (that I would prefer) only really works if everything is upfront and transparent. Anyway thanks for the replies. John

I do - I have the guitar and bass version. I think they are ace, but I would mention that my guitarbag has started to fray a little on the piping. Bass bag is ok but it hasn't had the same amount of giggage so either it will go the same way or I was unlucky with the guitar one. Seems pretty solid, the wheels are ace at the end of the night and the padding is thick enough for me - if I needed more I'd use the hard cases. Cheers John
I hope that doesn't sound like I said no to everything. It would be good to hear what people think and suggest some ideas. I think a 'report post' button might be a useful and quick way of alerting a mod to a particular thread. Cheers ped
Fair enough - like I said I was sort of thinking out loud. I guess the lack of consistency was something I found a bit odd, but perhaps I'm used to forums that are more "aggressively" (is that the word) moderated but with explanations for the moderation. Thanks for replying though - I always like the atmosphere on BW where everything (that I recall) was friendly and upfront, and it sort of feels less like that here. Maybe it's just me. Good to hear your views though. Cheers John

Thanks for explaining Jean Luc, I had suspected it was the case, but nice to have to full explanation and it's good to be aware that the price is more of an estimate than an actual price. I've found their free shipping probably helps - most places want £10 or so and I've always been so impressed with their way of doing things - sms message when the order is posted, lots of reassuring confirmation messages, no hassle replacements when there is a problem etc that I'll use them anyway regardless of the price difference. Given the amount of gear I get from Thomann I should look into getting a Nationwide card pronto. Thanks John the damned plus are really annoying aren't they.... especially on a wall wart.

Hi, Just sort of thinking out loud a bit here, and maybe I should pm the site owners but I thought a discussion might be helpful... (if only to make things clear for me) I'm curious about a few things relating to the moderation of the forum: The variation in the style, speed and tone of responses from mods - e.g. if someone asks a common question most forums would have a mod politely point out the sticky /faq etc and we can move on or add the the existing knowledge. On BC it seems that either such a post is ignored or jumped on any variation. - e.g.2 someone posts and inappropriate comment - editing or deleting a post is fine by me, but you would leave the post there and delete the comment adding an explanation. On BC some (IMHO) well iffy posts are ignored and other useful (again IMHO) posts are edited or deleted with no explanation. Posting guidelines - is there ever a review of what is and isn't suitable... I'm thinking about the sales section: - could we not have a tighter guideline about the frequency of bumps? - would it not be more appropriate to insist that people advertise here before the bay, giving regular here a chance rather than just treating people here as a way to spread the word about their auction (that can be useful but I think it should be after the regulars have had a chance) - clearer guidelines for people wanting to comment on other peoples ads - e/g/ price is too high, the endless gossip saying "buy this it's great" etc. I guess I'm thinking the site could be more pleasant (is that the right word?) if there was some more consistant, and transparent up front moderation and guidelines than the feeling of uncertainty I get at the moment. or maybe I've had a long day and should just go with the flow? Thanks John

cabinets: warwick 211 vs ashdown mag414 vs hughes and kettner 2x12
ZPQ replied to fede162162's topic in Amps and Cabs
I really like the sound of my Hughes & Kettner BC410H but at the weekend I looked at the BR410H, still very good but different size and not as full sounding. So I think I would need to try them out. I assume the price in euros means the H&K is too far for me if you decide you don't want it. Cheers John -
Any of you Wizard owners care to comment on how they might improve the sound of my Geddy Lee jazz - when I sitch to my status there is an extra depth to sound that I'd like to get out of the jazz. More presence and deeper bass is what I'm looking for - maybe I should think about going active but I'd rather upgrade the p/ups if that will do it. Thanks John

Hard to say with out seeing it. but I've had similar noises and so long as the machinehead is actually turning I have'nt worried about it - just the mechanical parts under strain. If you don't know someone with more playing time under their belt to get a 2nd opinion you could take it into a local shop and ask what they think? Did you buy it local - ask the seller about it. Sorry to be vague but perhaps we have a contributor from Weymouth who could have a look at it for you? Good luck - hope it turns out ok John

I've just bought the bass pod pro Alex had advertised on here for a bargain price. Far more concerned that I'm happy with it than with actually getting the money - a top bloke I reckon!
-
Wow - awesome! I bet you can't wait til it's finished.

Hi, Looks really good. I assume this was from rondomusic.com? I'm very tempted to get a 70's style 5 string. Is the neck thicker front to back or wider? Cheers John

To my ears it's mainly the top end of the drums that I'd bring up. The rest of the mix is ok. Cheers John
Out of interest I checked out your link, I don't want to be seen to be telling you how to sell something but... From a totally objective viewpoint the fact that your warning people about the distortion and it's all for the sake of a £2 Duracell, that screams problems to me! If indeed the battery is flat (I'd be surprised that it's causing distortion), for the cost of a battery why not replace it and put prospective buyers minds at ease.

Because the bass is round my drummer's house, and I'm a lazy bugger
Really? Great that you're being honest but a strange approach to selling.
