Superb. Headless, Stein style body, 2 necks, fretless and fretted - pretty much ticks al the boxes :-) Being an old prog fanboy I love double necks - I'm just in the middle of making my 2nd double necked guitar and I toying with a double neck bass as next years project. Do you gig it?

Hi, Anyone care to chip in with an opinion on what I stand to gain by fitting a preamp to my Geddy Lee Jazz. (or why I shouldn't?) It seems to me that the gain and eq on the amp can be adjusted to get the tones I want but perhaps there's an advantage I'm missing? Cheers John

Hi. When I play guitar I have a fairly comprehensive rack set up, but for bass I'm just going straight to the amp. I don't feel the urgent need for any exotic sounds but I do wonder if I'm missing something - or maybe I just need to justify buying more toys... Anyway, I would be very interested to see what sort of set up you are generally using for gigging, band rehearsals etc. Thanks John

I don't see why not, unless there's something specific to the particular gear your talking about. A pitch shifter will usually track better with a clean signal so you would put it early in the signal chain, or take a spilt and combine the signal s later. Is there a particular piece of gear you're referring to?

Hi - some thoughts... I'd double check to the earth connection of the P p/up - have you got a meter of some kind? I'd be interested to check that the pot goes from 0 - 250kohms. For some reason turning down that pot isn't making a complete short circuit as you would expect it to, so assuming the signal comes through it would suggest the earth connections aren't perfect. Keep me updated and I'll try to help if I can - shame you're so far away, I'm sure it's something simple we could sort while the kettle boils...

Played both more or less since I started (many years ago), seem to collect more guitars and guitar gear than bass for some reason. I'm gigging pretty regularly in 2 bands playing guitar and 1 playing bass. I suit guitar more when the songs are more rocky and bass when it's more poppy - if I'm playing bass in a rock band I often gets frustrated/critical of the guitarist, whereas when it's something less rock - R n B / Soul etc I prefer playing bass.

I'm annoyed I didn't buy one last week when they were only £45, but I think I'm going for a rack rather than pedal setup now so it's not the end of the world. Cheers John

Hi, I've got a pod xt pro and I was thinking of adding the bass model pack to it. Seems like an easy way to get the bass amp models and fx. Has anyone tried it? Any issues that I should be aware of? I've already got the other model packs so I'm ok with the upgrade process - it's more the sounds I'm curious about. Thanks John

The combined impedance will indeed be 2.67ohms, so you'll be getting fairly close to the rated 500W out of the amp. The new combined lower impedance just means more current will flow out of the amp so if you use the same settings, then there won't be any "easing" on the existing speaker - however you might find that you now have the volume turned down a little so it will help in that respect. The current will shared between the 2 cabs and normally one would use the same impedance cabs so that they get an equal shared, in this case the ampeg will get approx 57% and the ashdown 43% of the current - not a huge difference. The sensitivity of the speakers will be more significant in dictating which cab appears louder, but as I [i]assume [/i]the ashdown speakers are more sensitive I guess you find them pretty evenly matched. Sounds like a nice addition to the original amp :-)

Hi Mick, My last test connecting the send and line in worked fine so I think the speakers are ok, something in the preamp at the end of the signal chain I think. If I can find a schematic then I think it'll be an easy fix.

Thanks for the replies, Just had another look at it. Cleaned the pots and sockets - no change. Lots of brown gunk inside it - yuck. Connecting the send and return makes no difference, but there is a line in and connecting the send to this and it seems to work. Can't crank it up at this time of night, but it suggests that the fault is in the preamp and somewhere around output gain and end of the preamp chain (line in appear to after this in the chain - which I think is a bit odd). Hi, I plugged in my old GP11 4x10 trace combo this afternoon and it's developed a problem. 90% of he volume has gone and it sounds very distorted. I had a quick look and without doing a full on diagnosis I suspect it's the power transistors that are failing. Anyone had a similar problem or have any thoughts. Thanks John

Hi, 38 and played guitar and bass for 22 years now - I'm very much into rock when I play guitar, but prefer things to be involved with more funky/soul/pop when playing bass. Mainly play fingerstyle, but will use a pick if the song dictates it and I keep goin back to slapping and trying to get my chops to a point where I could at least impress the sales assistants in the local music shops. First bass gig was in a band doing Punjabi music while at Uni, we mainly played Bollywood type "pop" songs and did a lot of weddings and functions. I didn't understand a word that was sung but it was a nice earner and a good laugh and taught me a lot about how to get through a gig and keep things rolling. Just joined a band playing older classics (lots of RnB) and looking forward to bass gigs, and will make a change from my guitar bands. I'm just about to (finally) get to grips with playing a 5 string and have just started working on getting my sight reading up to scratch. I usually play guitar or bass in the school musical (we hire in a band of all the peri music teachers - they take it quite serious), and it'll make life a lot easier if I can read the score instead of going away and learning everything.
