1. Lol - if it was painted I could maybe see how someone might get mixed up, but this is just a basic (cheap maple?) wood neck - I can't imagine how you would think it had any graphite in it. It's some kind of cash convertors shop that are selling it, so that'll explain the lack of knowledge I guess.
2. Looks excellent. When I see basses that look as cool as this I start getting tempted to go for a single cut. Hope it sounds as good as it looks.
I've been using mine only for about 6 months and I'd gree that it is, indeed, subtle which, in my book at least, is a recommendation. I have experieced no noise whatsoever from my rig as a result of uisng it and I've had nothing but positive comments from House Sound Engineers. I tend to have my Volume set at about 11.00 - 12.00 o'clock and my Compression at about 10 o'clock and it really tightens and evens thing up. I leave it on all the time and wouldn't want to be without it. FWIW, my signal chain is: Active Bass > BossTU2 > BBE OptoStomp > SansAmp BDDI > Amp.
Thanks for that - sounds like I should add one to the list. At approx £50 these might be a bit of a bargain. Thanks John
4. Gator - I'll have a look for them, it's look like a neat way of doing it (although maybe a bit bigger than I need). The opto stomp might be on the shopping if I don't find a multicomp in the next week or so. Cheers John
5.
Here's my little corner of FXdom... Chain is: BSW -> Micro Q-Tron -> BBS Opto Stomp -> ODB-3 -> GE7B -> Cool Cat 18v -> DOD Phaser -> Artec ADL2 -> Behringer DR100 -> TU-2 -> ART ZDirect DI
Nice setup you've got there Pete. Did you make the board yourself - I notice the power supplies must be underneath the pedals at the top. What do you think of the bbe opto stomp - I'm toying with getting one but they don't seem that many around compared to say aphex, ebs etc. Cheers John
6. I'm just about to fit some caster to my trace 4x10 - it's so heavy that I'll be tempted to leave it at a gig if I don't. Hopefully it won't affect the sound too much but I'll look out for some removeable casters just in case. Homer - let us know how you get on - I'll be very interested in the results.

bbe opto stomp

Hi, I'm just about to put a new pedal board together and had intended to get an ebs multicomp but I've just come across the BBE opto stomp. I've read some rave reviews and some saying it's too subtle and it's noisy. If anyone has one I'd appreciate your comments Thanks John

Welcome aboard!
10. If I hadn't just bought another bass, I'd have had this - looks excellent!

EH nano pedals

Thanks guys, I guess I should track some down and give them a try before I dismiss the idea. Cheers John

EH nano pedals

Hi, I've just come across the EH nano pedals - has anyone tried them with bass? Just wondering what you think of the general quality of construction and sound... [EDIT: They seem to get very poor reviews on the net - so I guess I'll keep looking...] Thanks John
13. Sounds like a reasonable plan. What cabs are you using? Maybe someone has something similar and could throw in some suggestions for amps. (just had a look at your bandsite - looks like things are going well...MM endorsement too, very nice!)
14. I'd say go for it. Although lessons can be really helpful, I think you'll learn a great deal from playing with other musicians. Besides which, isn't being in a band the main (for most of us) reason for taking up bass in the first place... just be choosy about who you play with - if it doesn't feel right (for whatever reason - music, personalities etc) then move on, there are usually lots more bands than there are bassists.
15. Hi Rich - welcome aboard :-) The string is there in case you want to use it with an acoustic guitar (they often don't have 2 strap buttons). There should be a way of adjusting the length of the strap to get it to a reasonable position... if not then you have to start learning some Mark King lines.
16. Yep - the lower impedance will affect the amp output not the speakers. So the amp puts out more power into the total of 4ohms, but each speaker takes an equal share of the signal.
17. These days evening (esp. weekend) time is quite precious so I'm not sure I've got the patience to sit through a rubbish band of any sort. That said, it depends on what is letting them down - if they are good players that have rehearsed enough then I might still enjoy one or more of the musicians, and similarly if one members if spoiling things then I might enjoy the others even though the overall sound is let down. I'd find it hard to distinguish between original or covers I guess but at least with a poor original band you might not be aware of the mistakes they are miaking whereas with a cover band you probably know the songs and recognise the errors more quickly... (I'm starting to recall some of the dodgy bands i've played in now)
18. I popped into the local shop and tried the lowdown 110 - I thought it sounded really good for the size but just wasn't loud enough for what I need. So I think I'll have to up the budget to get something tiny and loud. Do let us know how you get on with the 110 after you've had time to get used to it. Cheers John

OBBM

Ordered a custom cable yesterday and it arrived today. Quality appears to be very high. Thanks Dave! Cheers John
20. I know what you mean - I'm already a fan of line6 (I've got the podxt and xtpro) so I half know what to expect sound wise. I'm just off to try one now :-)
21. 1. Is a light bass cabinet important to you? Y 2. Would you be interested in a smaller designed cabinet for maximum portability? Y 3. What is the weight of your current rig now? 40 Kg 4. Have you ever had portability issues with this cabinet before? Y 5. Would a Neo speaker make the amplifier more appealing? Indifferent 6. Would you want casters on the amplifier for added portability? Indifferent 7. Would you want the input to be in the back? Y 8. Would you want the Ohm rating to be 4? Indifferent 9. Would you want the power rating to be over 200 watts? Y 10. Is a metal grille cover attractive on an amplifier? Indifferent
22. Interesting that they get some really bad reviews and glowing reviews. I'm struggling to find anything that compares for size volume and price, I think I'll go and try one and see if how loud they. Cheers John
23. Both are valid - but there's a lot to be said for doing some time in a covers band and learning the craft of gigging. As there tend to be more gigs doing covers you can get your act together and develop the skills necessary a lot quicker, so I think most players would benefit from spending a year or 2 playing covers at some point in their career. The grey area for me is cover bands that try to slip a few originals into the set - I struggle to see how that work at the typical pub/club.
24. I agree with Dood and Skywalker - it's almost certainly the battery or cable. Try swapping these (one at a time) and see how you get on - good luck! (good point about the battery in the bass - I've had that before and wasted ages checking cables before I realised)
25. That's really nice, for me the looks on Warwicks can be hit and miss, with the Covette being a model I don't usually like but the maple fretboard and bubinga/ash body work really well together. Someone is going to get a really nice bass.
