Thanks for all the tips. It would be a shame for me to put a lot of work into it only for the build to be let down by a shoddy part. I can see a few Player Series necks floating around, so that might be a more sensible place to start. 👍

I've been browsing the web recently for another P bass, but being a lefty they're not in plentiful supply in my price range. I've always fancied having a go at putting together a bass for the first time, I found a Squier P Special body on reverb for 80 quid which I fancy getting resprayed in shoreline gold. I was also looking for necks, and found a bound/blocked P width neck from China for virtually nothing! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Electric-bass-guitar-neck-34-inch-20-fret-Fretboard-left-hand-Truss-Rod-B1/391945640740?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D9a7ae7e4c9274c3296cc187f5373ff2c%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D391945640740%26itm%3D391945640740%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2481888&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Ab8997d6a-ce16-11e9-828d-74dbd180ae35|parentrq%3Af5e0ffe916c0ad4a4ceaa819ffd36f70|iid%3A1 Then i started to wonder if it would be worth it and if I put a crappy part on the instrument it might compromise its playability. For 50 odd quid it looks too good to be true. For the headache it would probably cause me I should wait for a Fender or Squier neck to become available and start from there. Anyone out there got any experience of this? Cheers

New Squier Classic Vibes for pre-order at Thomann
rasher80 replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Bass Guitars
Being a left hander options are always limited, but when this range was revamped I really took a shine to the CV 70s Jazz in black. I thought it had a beautifully sleek look and I've always wanted a bound/block necked Jazz in a solid colour. I had the chance when I bought my last decent bass from Guitar Emporium, put plumped for a '62 PB instead of the '75 JB and then the wonderful Fender Japan instruments ceased to exist. I took a visit to a local nationwide guitar shop who had one in stock. It was superficially fine but it had a broken tuner on it which hadn't been noticed. A bit of a shame but they said they'd order me one in. Whilst I was there I tried out the 60s P and was quite surprised by how good it sounded and felt - easily as nice as the Japanese one I sold when I gave up live playing. Collected the 2nd Jazz over the weekend, and when I got it home the bridge had been put on it so clumsily, so it looked like this: Was not impressed so took it back to the store and swapped it for the 60s P which I'm absolutely loving. Really shocking QC from the factory on this one. Really disappointed. I think me and 70s Fenders aren't to be 😏 -

Does the Hi-Mass Fender bridge fit on the new classic vibes does anyone know? -
Anyone a fan of this player / band? Just listened to their debut album for the first time (even though it came out ~ 2005!) Really like her bass tone, it's punchy and tight without being either too boomy or lacking bottom end. I've not got an ear for these things, but on a couple of tracks which are a bit more laid back, I'm wondering if I can hear flatwounds (I'm thinking Which Way To Happy & I See You, You See Me) Any ideas? Thanks
I really can't stand fairytale of newyork. Biggest pile of sh*te ever sung by an even bigger pile of sh*te. your opinion may vary. I'm currently really enjoying James Taylor's Christmas offering, particularly his funky version of jingle bells
A bit harsh!

Absolute genius in my eyes - one of the most influential bassists ever and deservedly so, and that's even before you take into account his songwriting ability and aptitude for other instruments. I saw him in 2011 for the first time and it was just incredible. I cannot for the life of me nail "I Saw Her Standing There" though, absolutely solid! (I'm a mediocre player though and that's being kind! )

Well, I am no Peter Hook but I am no Mark King either! Hopefully the short strap will be just about ok. Cheers!

I've just got a G&L Trib L2000 and it's by far the heaviest bass I've owned. I haven't played standing up for any great length of time but I've found my bog-standard Fender strap isn't distributing the weight all that well. I'm only a small chap to boot! Can anyone recommend a good strap which is a bit more comfortable with a weighty instrument on the end of it? I was looking at the Mono ones at Bass Direct and they look very comfy indeed! Cheers

Squier Precision Bass Special Lefty - SOLD

Here we have my trusty Squier P Bass Special L/H for sale. I’ve owned this since 2007 but I’ve set my heart on a G&L L2000 Tribute so regrettably this one has to go. For some reason Fender have decided to discontinue this model for lefties, I can’t see why they can’t have just one standard LH Precision in their Squier / Mexican range but never mind. It’s a great starter bass, a handy backup or maybe a modding project perhaps? Well worth a look. It’s all completely stock, nothing has been changed and as far as wear and tear goes it’s not in bad condition, a few gouges in the underside of the headstock where a drummer knocked over his cymbals, but it isn’t too noticeable. It would definitely benefit from a set-up, which I haven’t got round to doing unfortunately. Specs are as follows: Agathis Precision body finished in Vintage Burst Maple Jazz neck with Rosewood board 3-ply Tortoiseshell pickguard 2x Vol, 1x Tone controls Standard Squier Precision pickup with a Jazz pickup at the bridge Standard tuners and bridge Asking price is [s]£130[/s] £120, or exchange plus cash your way for a G&L L2000 Tribute ONLY, no other basses considered! Prefer collection from somewhere in the Manchester area but willing to post. Thanks for looking!

It sounds like a no brainer to me!

Thanks for the comments, they truly sound exceptional basses for the price, even the lefty which has a slightly higher price than the right handed versions. I've had Precisions and a Rick 4004L so i'm used to a more chunky neck which is a good thing i guess.

Hello all! I've decided I'd like to get myself a decent bass, one that can do an array of things well - it also has to be a lefty!! I don't gig anymore but would still like a well made instrument that I can keep for the forseeable future. I've seen lots of love for the G&L L2000 Tribute and this is a bass that is seriously interesting me. Anybody on the forum own or have experience with one of these? Any feedback welcome! Ta

I’ve decided to continue thinning out my collection of instruments a little bit further so I’ve decided to sell my noodling bass too. Agathis body finished in antique burst with torty pickguard, maple Jazz neck with rosewood fretboard. Precision pickup with a Jazz pickup at the bridge. 2 volume and 1 tone controls. All stock Squier hardware. It’s a good bit dinged / relic-ed / mojo’d, whatever you want to call it. Great bass for starting off on or just to noodle or abuse, whatever takes your fancy. Fender gigbag included. Looking for £100 Thanks. Pics to follow Based in Manc

Anyone got any thoughts on the Roland Micro Cube?
rasher80 replied to rasher80's topic in Other Instruments
Crikey, just Googled the Yamaha THR10 and was a bit taken aback by the price - i am after cheap and cheerful really (and i know by-and-large you get what you pay for) as I am a rubbish guitarist and just looking for something to noodle through when I get a bit of free time! But thanks for the replies - keep 'em coming
