Absolutely. I think a new neck is the least i can expect under the circumstances. A nice, bound, block-inlaid one'd be nice while they're at it
It looks like you're in Manchester so getting hold of a box shouldn't be a problem. Dawsons on Portland St have obliged in the past (a nice big Gibson box with all the internal airbag packaging materials) and I'm pretty sure Music Ground (Oxford Road) will do the same. Good luck with the whole saga - I'm fairly convinced you'll achieve suitable resolution (though the wait is a bit irritating)
Cheers for that, i'll give them a try. To be honest, i hate any kind of fuss, but i hope this is put to bed as soon as because i'm not a happy chappy right now! hopefully they'll just pop a new, functional neck on it and that'll be the end of the matter

UPDATE: They are going to collect it and send it to Fender so they can assess it. All i need to do now is find a frickin box for it to go in!
-
I bought it from Andertons. There appears to be some sort of glitch on their "returns" page, so i can't access it as yet. i'm still quite apprehensive about this now. I'd imagined they'd just offer me a like for like and that would be the end of it. From what Crazykiwi said, it doesn't seem as though a repair is a viable option, so this could rumble on for a while. Of course, if i'm not happy, i'll just mither Fender as well

just spoke to someone at the shop; they said that the "exchange" period had expired, but they are prepared to collect the bass minus the box and have it "repaired". Not sure i'm happy that it's going to be flung around the back of a delivery van from Manchester to Surrey and back! I've got to wait for the head honcho to contact me, but i'm a bit concerned thus far!

Sorry, i meant to say the store. Having a mare today DURRRR! well, we shall see how it goes. I'm quite prepared to go to Fender UK and grumble like hell - especially seeing as my bass is effectively useless now.
-
it's only very slight -but it's there. It's been in and out of the warm and cold constantly over the last month and i've had no issue with it. In fact, i was over the moon with it, considering the hard time MIMs get - until last night!

MIM That bloomin' avatar keeps distracting me

No, the neck is still straight thankfully. The intonation seems fine. Still awaiting their reply...

Hm, think you might be right. It's a major headache. the annoying thing is that the neck on my Squier is fine and i've had that years now. I can't really blame Fender, the bass was perfect when i received it. Not sure what happened to cause it to pop out, as it were.

a new neck??????? now i am pissed off! it is too much to ask to get something that isn't going to fall apart after five minutes these days???

I was doing some silent practice with my Fender Jazz last night, and after about 35 minutes i heard a very distinct cracking sound. I thought "oh sh*t!" and then checked the bass over very thoroughly but couldn't find the source of the noise. I thought i must've been imagining it, and started playing again - then i discovered the fault. The skunk stripe on the back of the neck is no longer flush with the neck for about 4-5 inches. It isn't noticeable with the naked eye, but you catch it if you run your fingernail across the radius of the neck. It doesn't affect my ability to play, but it shouldn't have happened. What's annoyed me is the bass is brand new and i've had it less than a month. My first thought was to return it to the store, but i got it mail order and the store is about as far away as you can get from where i live, plus i no longer have the box it came in. Plus, i've grown quite attached to it, but i'm not paying for it to be repaired! I've emailed the store but they don't open for another hour or so. Is it something that can be easily fixed? because i'd rather do that than go through the mither of sending it off, but part me is thinking "it's brand new and you paid enough for it, get one that's not bloody faulty!" GRRRRR

Fenders can be excellent basses if you can get a good one. There's plenty of decent suggestions made, especially the Squier VM series which i'm gutted aren't left handed. As Pauline Calf once said, "if you like it, try it. If you don't like it, try it - you might like it" -

You could try Warmoth, but they can be quite steep too. I wanted a nice block inlaid Jazz neck for my lefty and the price was a bit of a surprise!

i have an Ashdown MAG C115-300 combo for sale. First generation model without compression, it has the blueline 1x15 speaker and is rated at 307w RMS. It has FX loop, XLR out, active and passive input, deep and bright boost switches, eq bypass, and the sub-harmonic generator. The amp has been gigged maybe 10 times, it's still in great condition, no damage to speaker grille or carpeting. I'm asking for £180, or maybe part-exchange plus cash for a GB shuttle 3.0. It's a hefty bit of kit so would prefer not to post! Pics to follow James

Hmm, ok that might help! i'll give it a go. It's not a really difficult line it's just i can't make out where he's going in a few places! Cheers PS if anyone wants to give it a go and is a proper musician, i have the standard notation available as a PDF. please PM me if you want it... Suits you sir! OOH!

Right then. My problem is thus - i learned the guitar and then bass using tab books etc and have never learned standard notation (i know, i know! ) I happened upon this guy on YouTube doing a bass cover of Jamerson's line on Ain't No Sun Since You've Been Gone by Gladys Knight and The Pips, and it's one of the best lines i've heard (IMO). I managed to get hold of the guy's transcription but it's in standard notation and i haven't got a clue where to begin! Anyone want to help me out? You can listen to the cover here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Myn5KD0_9Kk Cheers!

That's just plain wrong! It's odd that Jimi Goodwin from The Doves plays a righty Precision upside down, the neck dive must be a real pain! i've nedver understood it myself -
At about the same weight as the box the Ashdown came in.
Well that settles it! Better get myself over to the "FOR SALE" section and get this MAG a new owner!
